I think Art had the hots for Heather.

I think that is certainly a large part of the equation. He isn't the first old man to be dazzled by a younger woman.

I think the reverse could be true too.

Don't discount the lure of a star to a star fucker.

I'm frantically smoking cigs prior to clocking in, gotta get the nicotine level elevated in the blood, wondering,  how much bloodletting will we witness in the forum tonight?

Astonishing to see the goodwill here evaporate this quickly, there's three or four sycophants left, the better part of which are feigning indifference poorly, lol. Art and Keith are creeps, Heather being one comes as a surprise. That exchange with Bateman, holy fuck. Hoagie needs to jump ship soon, I refuse to give these fucks any more money.

Quote from: WOTR on January 18, 2016, 12:03:43 PMGenerally, I agree. But when it comes to radio where it is 100% voice, I would say that there are people who would automatically not like a womans voice late night.  You read how many people liked Wells based completely on his voice, and how many people would complain even of hosts like Schrader and others not having a deep enough voice, (and those here, during her first co-hosting position how many outright said that they did not want a woman's voice after midnight and it felt wrong.)
"Radio, where it is 100% voice" can be taken 2 ways:

1. On a radio program, all that comes thru is voice.  There are no pictures.

2. All that counts in radio is voice.

#1 is undeniably true, admitting of course the contributions of other sounds (music, background, etc.) but understanding from context that those don't count.  #2 is false.  If #2 were true, then there wouldn't be such complaints about Noory.  He has a fine voice; give him a script & coach him on pronunciations (or let him know his remuneration depends on his own research of proper pronunciation), and there are few people I'd rather have read a pitch or do a narration.  People do remark about J.B. Welles's voice, but usu. just as an aside, not as the main point of their opinion of his programs.

Women have made up a large proportion of the DJs between midnight & 6 AM on WFMU.  Granted they're doing primarily music programs, but they do talk, often at length.

He's a good interviewer:  asks very thoughtful questions and tries to lead the guest into unfolding their story in a way that makes for exciting listening.  He'll ditch a guest too, if they're not meeting him halfway in getting the story across to the listeners, as he did last week (and it was a wise decision).  He had a couple of guests on who were supposed to talk about a haunting, and all they wanted to talk about was fundraising for their project to renovate the supposed haunted location.

Nice guy, and genuinely into the paranormal and twisted crime (the other topic Darkness Radio covers).  He does ghost investigations in his spare time, as you may be aware.

I like Dave Schrader a lot.  Both he and George Knapp are great interviewers.

I’m not a fan of lynch mobs or band wagons, and I’m not going to line up to praise MV or anyone else.

I think that sometimes you have to put on your “big boy pants” and grok that when bad things happens, usually everyone involved shares some of the blame.

The recent blowback actually has nothing to do with Art Bell going off the air after the recent stalker incidents at his home.  If that’s all that had happened, the vast majority of his fans would’ve expressed concern and patience through this.  The blowback he’s received is a cumulative frustration over his previous departures from hosting his shows.  And that’s unfortunate, because his decision to take a hiatus while his family feels imperiled isn’t a valid reason to burn his house down, and in fact, he deserved some measure of compassion and support after being stalked and apparently even intimidated by gun shots at his home.  I don’t think that anyone would’ve expected the intense animosity that he’s been subjected to since his latest departure under these conditions, least of all Art, so it must’ve struck him as a miserable shock delivered at an already terrible time.

MV, your position when the blowback started was very passive aggressive â€" perhaps because you felt personally disappointed by Art’s latest announcement to depart the show, I don’t know, but you chose to sit back and let slip the dogs of war.  Inaction is an action; some of the blame for what has happened since rests upon your shoulders.

A lot of really horrific stuff has been said around here lately.  Innocent people have been dragged into it.  And some of the worst types of people on the planet have basked in the vile atmosphere here.  Art shares some of the blame for that, because his fans have been remarkably loyal and supportive for a long time, and his history of retirements makes many of them feel disposable if not outright betrayed.  But MV also shares some of the blame for leaning back and watching “THE Art Bell Fan Forum” turn into a cesspool of rage directed not only at Art, but also at Heather, and even invoking his most painful and totally unrelated personal experiences involving his family.

I don’t condone Art’s roundabout and conditional threat of legal action, but I understand it.  Many of Art’s fans feel betrayed by his long history of sudden “retirements,” and I understand that.  But imagine how he must feel reading through the hundreds of pages of hateful and often way over the top attacks against him.  He saw this place as a prickly but “vaguely lovable” source of support and a certain level of camaraderie.  Image how he must’ve felt watching this namesake site turned into a shooting gallery against him, where no blow is considered too low.  With my home and career in ruins, an unknown gunman on the loose, and my last refuge for a friendly social media fix turned viciously against me, I’d probably be looking for a way to grab hold of a reign as well.

So I won’t be raising any torches, or raising any glasses, to anyone tonight.

What the audience doesn't realize -- but "Dad" does -- is that these people are doubles.  They didn't die, their doubles (the people for whom they are doubles, from the other perspective) did.  They're moving on to another scam, probably.

I don't blame Art for being hurt and/or disgusted by the venom spit here. All the newbs made this place that was once "vaguely lovable", pretty damn toxic. Now those of you that *were* loyal no longer are because he is hurt? With friends like these...

I wish I had a time machine. I bet Art does too. I'll miss this place, but not as it is now.

Buh-bye.

Quote from: Jackstar on January 18, 2016, 02:46:25 AMI only explicitly explain the end of Lost to fish with tits, sorry. Don't worry, it'll all make sense eventually.
Makes sense to me now, but it was a lot of fun work.  It'll help if you watch some choice episodes of Department S, read Tales of Terror & Mystery by A. Conan Doyle, & review Hamlet.  And while watching Lost, take to heart one of the X Files' slogans: Trust No One.  When you realize what's really going on in many scenes -- what some of the dialog really means -- you'll LOL.  It's double the fun.

Quote from: SciFiAuthor on January 18, 2016, 02:48:41 AMI just explain it as Lindelof and the writing staff coming up with whatever they could think of to end it after painting themselves into corners for two years.
That's what I thought for almost 2 yrs. after it concluded its run, which was very disappointing considering I'd been Damon's friend & had a high opinion of his work.  But then I read "The Lost Special" & the clues began to click into place hilariously.  I'd already figured a good deal of it, but it took longer than the show's run for me to do the homework & "get" the rest.  Please trust me that it wasn't "whatever they could think of", but rather a masterful job of presenting a mystery caper that the audience wouldn't even realize had been a caper whose solution would not be presented overtly at the end, but withheld for us to figure out.

If he does appear, I betcha he issues a stern reprimand to the "undesirables" at ballgrab. Kinda like when IRAN violates an agreement by testing a ballistic missile, the administration "sternly rebukes", ( oohh scary), it.
He'll express sadness and disappointment, saying redacted is getting better each day.

I repeat my call for SredniVashtar to lead us through these troubled waters. Just as Churchill did through the Battle of Britain

very, very few people will notice or give a shit. The guy either made up a bullshit story, or folded to a bullshit threat, or folded to a real threat so malevolent, that none dare speak its name.

In any case, silence is golden.

Daddy! When will you be back???

I have my doubts on that... But if he cared even a little bit or wanted to do some damage control, then tonight would be the night.
If he does not call in tonight then you have to be pretty damn delusional to believe that he wants anything to do with this show.

I wonder if he is having fun watching the train wreck he created. I bet he says fuck it, packs up the family, and moves back to the Philippines.

As much as I love art bell and I want him to return. I totally understand why he's laying low . He's being stalked ! And stalkers aren't known for being very levelheaded , his family is in danger .
And this forum is making me so sad , even if art never came back on air , I still listen to the old shows and I still like to talk about the old shows .
I know the trolls now will just laugh at me . But please , just because you don't give a shit about anything don't shit on what I care about

Oh, good lord...

You called at 11:30 ranting and raving because you found out they were looking for 'options'. Of course I wasn't gonna host anything with 30 minutes notice and you goading me.

You're a dim bulb. I'm talking about a separate stream for my own use.

Go fuck yourself, Amateur Hour.

Wow...calling someone 30 minutes before the show and asking them to be the host?

And then publicly attacking them when they understandably decline?

Heather, you're starting to sound as psychotic as Art.

And given the dire circumstance you allowed a master con artist to maneuver you into, I think you should change your name.

You no longer seem like a Redacted.  More like a Prolapsed.

If Art is ever going to call in, tonight is the night. Only problem is he's going to need to sneak up to his hotel room's bathroom while his wife and kid are at the buffet.

On that first show, the one that they did together, after thinking about it I got a feeling that Art did NOT wish to share the show with her.

As I listened, Art would comment and then Heather.

But Art's comments covered ALL bases, leaving nothing for Heather to do but repeat one of his points.  He made her look redundant, not too smart.

Then, naturally, people did what he seemed to have wanted - they complained that he should do the show alone and that she was not needed.

I am 85% on the way to thinking this was deliberate and that Art is a very manipulative and controlling person.

He's a great talent, but some not too nice things may dwell on the other side of that coin.
