Another fabricated story about a mysterious man firing shots near his property.

Can't say I didn't see this coming, still a bummer(it always is).  I'm happy we got a few months of great shows.  Did we get a report of what the final straw on Wednesday was?
Art posted that he was quitting because it was too much for his family to be scared. Did you ever get out of that bar in Mexico?

Apparently not. Which might have something to do with Keith sending the refund emails so quickly. Maybe he suspects or knows something.

(I'm just being hypothetical.)
I don't know how this stuff works (are there contracts) but I got a vibe in some email correspondence with one of my local radio stations that one of their concerns was the quitting stuff. The real stations that took the program will do what? Accept some new host for the show (apparently [Redacted] or just find other people? I'm pulling for "Bateman.") Seems a big setback for DMDN also in terms of trying, if they wanted too, to get on real radio- which isn't the future so maybe never the plan. But even on the digital universe no more Art has to hurt the network.

Just unsubscribed, didn't really use it anyway as I liked having the FULL shows but I was doing it to support Art. Next time I'll think twice perhaps.

Exactly.

However Art did say he got a voice message on his phone one night saying not to go on the air, or something along those lines.

I just don't know if the things he said happened actually happened the way he said they did. Art might be suffering from early onset of dementia. I'm very skeptical about all this  :(

oh for fucks sakes.

You can hear him five nights a week at three hours a stretch.

if he was suffering from dementia, you'd fucking know it.

I'm bummed out . But I love Art. I'm not angry. I'm grateful that we were able to have the time that we had with him. I'm proud that I was able be a part of The Great Blitz of 2015. Grateful that I got to know you guys and even meet some of you in person.  I'll always look back on this show and everything that accompanied it with nothing but appreciation.

Thanks for coming back to us, buddy, for giving us a little more of yourself. It was magic.

Hold on now Dan. What if somebody suffering from dementia was listening to that show? Now wouldn't that have some bearing on it? I'm just trying to keep all the speculation down to a minimum here. We here at BellGab are a steady lot, nobody pulls shit out their ass here ever.

Here's the important question: Is Amy Martin OK???

I enjoy hearing that sexy-voiced ether nymph.

My thoughts are with the true victims tonight, the Australian people.

Speculate away, it's a free country.

Just don't speculate over at Deep Talk IRC.  They will ban you as soon as you mention Hoagland

Less than an hour until HEATHER IN THE DESERT!

This is exciting.

I'm not surprised by this turn of events in the least, and I loved the show.

But Art's recent dalliance introduced me to a lot of other hosts.  DMRN isn't something I'm going to suddenly forget.  And it introduced me to BellGab.  That's me, anyway.

This was never going to end any way other than with some Art Bell-style silliness.

After Dark Matter I decided to not bother listening to MITD, knowing it would end shortly in some BS manner.  It was so much less aggravating following the Art Bell drama during the run up to the show and during the show than it would have been had I been emotionally invested in it.

It was suggested he just do 1 or 2 shows a week, to keep it from feeling like a job, and to be able to weed out the lamest guests.  He didn't want to do that.  It was suggested he cut loose the most overexposed and tiresome guests.  Instead he gives Hoagie his own show.  Art makes rash decisions, and at times apparently feels he needs elaborate cover stories.  A few hours from retiring under 'terrorism', he's open to guest hosting.  Really?

Giving Hoagie his own show was genius. It sparred the audience another appearance and gave us a few months of comically bad radio and fun.

Soylentblue

The last couple of weeks I found myself listening thru the intro and for the first few minutes of the guests.

I don't know what it was? Maybe it was Art not being emotionally invested in the show or being sometimes short with this guests and kind of cranky.

I found myself drifting to other talk radio shows instead of Midnight.

It's kind of like breaking up with your sweetheart in high school. You like her but it's just not working anymore and it's time to move on.

Well, that's true too.  Except for the part of asking RS to get involved.

Well, I haven't come into this forum for quite a while, but just wanted to say that I am sad about these developments and it's gonna be hard getting to sleep, I hope Hoagland continues though.

There is a small part of me that is suspicious this isn't really what happened, but it is wrong to speculate and only time will tell. Nevertheless, he's not a young man and he has to think about his young family, I guess his past families have gone their own way over the years and he doesn't want to screw up things with his current family. I'm a divorcee who misses his step daughters terribly so I know the pain of family moving on and moving away.

I hope Art finds a way to continue his presence, maybe he could produce other shows and train other people.

Art if this all is really what it is on face value, you've got my sympathy and best wishes for you and your family. If I were you, I'd move back to the Phils and enjoy the gentle sweetness of their culture and so you can drink Tuba and chill, I agree with your retiring, you own nobody anything, Godspeed sir. If you ever go to Cebu, my family there would gladly say hi!

It's probably just a local mental patient who chose Art because he is on the air and has a long reach. Therefore the activities of the stalker will be known worldwide, what publicity! And knowing Art, of course he will talk about it. So the stalker in the end probably doesn't want Art off the air, otherwise why not just sneak up to his radio shack during broadcast and end it?

Crazy people? Guns? Or just the combination?

I'll be listening to (Redacted) tonight, my first MITD show..

I exercise my right to speculate that there is no stalker.
I've listened to more hours of old shows than hours of MITD, since July, 20, ( better version of Art imho).
If the wife was pressuring him, maybe he would fabricate an easier way to bow out, or maybe not. But the whole thing smells to me.

Yeah, I take some solace that we got the "archive", U7,  iHate still playing old stuff (some 'new' ones not in archive.) Maybe Art would consider a "Dreamland" like show weekly or monthly? He could pre-record and not deal with timing issues, family, etc?

Art is no beta.

His wife isn't bossing him around.  Nobody bosses him around.

If the reports were filed, you can get copies of the first page of each one to verify whether or not Art is telling the truth.
