I think people are interested in that area coz it's kind of near Area 51 and the Little Alien Inn.  Isn't there a highway near there called the UFO Highway, or something like that?

Extraterrestrial Highway, it's called.  Just looked it up.

Kind of a shame about all the stickers.

No, I'm quite sure the fine folks in this forum are just expressing genuine concern as to how the weather forcast for Pahrump might effect tomorrow's test and Monday's broadcast... but it's a fine line between "concern" and Kathy Bates in "Misery"

I didn't have time to listen to John Batchelor last night, so I downloaded the podcast today. Thanks for posting a link.

Here's a rather strange Google Earth image of an odd compound near Area 51... in Art's area.

Looks like a replica of a Soviet-style SA-2 same site built in the Tonapah Test Range for USAF Red Flag training. Suprised that they still have ones that are configured like that.

It's closer to Tonopah than Rachel, NV (the Little Ale'Inn). Tonopah is jam packed with people at the moment as there are many people working on the nuclear waste disposal facility at Yucca Mountain.

Twas the Night before ARTmas and all thru the house, all the creatures were stirring, even the computer mouse.
All the ears were eager to hear him again, "It's been so long, Mom and Dad, is he even real?"
Yes my little Minions, He IS real, as longs as there are UFO's, ghostly voices and things that go
PAHRUMP in the night! He is real. Soon your little ears will hear his great big voice."
The kiddies gathered around the Shortwave radio, or their trusty little iPad's eager to hear
the VOICE from the High Desert, "On Keith, On Richard, on J.C & Jazmunda, to the top of the tower,
To the top of the Ether, Greetings from the great American Southwest and Welcome to Midnight in the Desert,
I'm your host Art Bell! Wanna Take a Ride!" ;)

That was one creepy movie ... which, I hear, was based on something that actually happened to Stephen King. Unfortunately, he did not go into detail about the incident ...

VLC frequently dropped at 9 hrs.  Could not find any settings dictating this and other streams did not drop after 9 hrs.

In Audacious it frequently is dropping when one show ends and another starts up.  This is inconsistent however--sometimes will go over a day without dropping at all.

I use the mp3 link, this defaults to an html5 <audio> player in the browser that works without downloading all the extra stuff that adobe, google et al loads if you run a web-player. But you're  right, whether it's a web-player, <audio> element or 3rd party app like VLC, the stream will sometimes stall, pause or you may lose connection momentarily just when your buffer runs dry.

If you're on VLC, losing a connection can sometimes cause it to loop, whereas web-players and <audio> browser elements will pause or stall under certain conditions (connection, user inactivity, window z-index, iframe size, no-data).

What I did after dumping XM in 2013 was to cobble together a desktop player to take it's place. To get around the stream issues above, I had my player log when it went down and log what was going on when it dumped the stream. The fix was to use event listeners to indicate stall, pause and no-data conditions and refresh the stream connection if any of those conditions fired an event. I send an XHR CORS HEAD request every 60 sec to determine if my ISP's connection is up, if it's down, the player keeps trying until it's back up again and re-establishes the stream I have scheduled for that hour (the player has a scheduler so I can listen to different streams of my choice at different times of day without having to change channels manually).

This only works for mp3 streams that can use html5 <audio> in the browser, I can't monitor web-payers that download from remote sites.

But yeah, I've been through all that. Even considering all the above hassle, it's still a damn site better than $187 a year for the XM subscription I had for eight years (that I got JUST to listen to Art Bell because there's no decent radio reception out here).

you will need to get the kindle store on your android device, then you should be able to install tune-in pro free of charge.

Listening to it now.  Coconut macaroons eh?  And hot coffee!  Such good people.  And thats what all this is about. Gold people doing what they do best.  From you whacky bunch of crazy kids to Art.  Im curious. When the phone in the background rang, was it an old black phone? Or was that just a phone sound on a newer phone?
