Well that sounds cool as hell. Have you ever done international guest shots before?

Are you naturally a night person or an insomniac- or do you have to force yourself?  For some reason, I had always just assumed that you were "one of us," and it would be weird to think of you as a "morning guy."

jazmunda

I used to be a night guy. Now I have 3 kids under 7. Now I'm a morning and a night guy.

I see... A trans-night guy? ;D  (at least I did not use the "F" word.) :P

I have had jobs where I had to be at work at 6AM and even after months people knew to leave me alone until 10... I never really adjust.  Everybody knew that was really a night guy trapped in a morning guys job...

Amen brother, we'll sleep when we're dead. Or when they are all out of the house.

Jazz my man you are the master. This trailer is sublime. The Martian landscape is beautiful. The music captures the mood. The Art Bell soundbites are perfect. Thank you. Keep up the good work.

I will share this with my mates in the UK and hopefully we can convert a few. I have been sharing old shows with them and they are very interested. If I can turn on of them into a subscriber I will be very happy.

I used to run sound for local and regional rock bands ... didn't get home til 4 or 5am most nights. I've been allergic to mornings since.

I wonder if I can get a "medic alert" bracelet with that particular allergy printed on it?

I'm sorry I can't compare my continent to yours. In mine (and lets say my oldest wasnt going to be with us forever) the Kids would hit 18, go to college, piss most of college away, get a piece of paper and then move back in because they can't find a job, then work at Starbucks or Walgreen's until promoted or knocking up someone, and then before you know it it's the Waltons in your home.

With all that said, most likely we'll end up dead first. At least there's Art Bell trailers and Podcasts to keep you motivated!

Art,

I don't know what radio is like in Ireland, but in England it is pretty awful with the BBC dominating everything speech-related, music stations being another matter. The only thing remotely comparable to what you have over there is something called talkSPORT  which, as the name implies, is more or less balls of various shapes and sizes. They used to have a programme a long time ago hosted by Howard Hughes (who you may or may not know) called 'The Unexplained', which was a straight imitation of Coast, but it didn't last too long and turned into a podcast. We have a bit of a history of marginalising anyone interesting in radio, preferring tame time-servers who won't rock the boat.

As far as forums are concerned in England, where you might be able to spread the word. The one that comes to mind is something called Digital Spy. I haven't been to it for a while, but is a bit of a clearing house for media, pop culture and that kind of thing and has an area where people discuss various areas of broadcasting, including radio. People really do 'listen' to the radio here (as opposed to just hearing) it, when they are given a chance, but the suits think the opposite, preferring pablum over content.

It's not even that good. Radio here, even more than television, is throttled by the Beeb, which basically exists to serve itself rather than the listener. If you want to torture yourself, try and sit through one of the current affairs call-ins on 5Live - the callers are all screened and prepped so that they have all the spontaneity sucked out of them, the presenters never have an opinion remotely controversial or interesting, and the whole thing is a waste of time for anyone with an IQ in three figures. It almost makes you pine for one of the typical talk shows hosts you have there - at least they have something to say.

BobGrau

Yeah I tell my fellow Brits I'm "a fan of Talk Radio" and I get some very strange looks. It's easier to say I'm into UFOs.

Because it's only a small place we tend to have national radio stations that dominate the airwaves and get all the publicity, but they are so scared to say anything controversial that I am amazed anybody listens to them. Even worse are the local stations; again, all run by the BBC and usually staffed by people who were sacked from the national stations, or by people who weren't good enough to get there in the first place. Try and imagine listening to a station that is the audio equivalent of a retirement home -  almost all the callers are well into their eighties, and the hosts all sound like their carers.

Man I just had to watch this one again. I love Mars. Always have. That shot when the main title comes up, flying over the landscape of Mars is just stunning. The whole vibe including the style of the titles reminds me of some Sci Fi book.

Well done Jaz. Any hints on the topic of the next one?

jazmunda

Thank you CH. Very kind.

Art, I'm currently listening to Ghost to Ghost shows and on two in the early nineties you mentioned that you had a friend who worked for an airline who could tell many ghost stories about ghosts on planes due to the airlines reusing parts from crashed aircraft. You mentioned that once he retires you would have him on. I'm not sure you ever did. My question is; has your friend retired yet and would he be willing to tell his tales?

I think this would be a fascinating segment or show depending on how many stories he has. Anyway just my 2 Aussie Cents which incidentally is worth about $0.015 USD.

jazmunda, I'm curious - how are you getting the use of these clips cleared by or through IHeartRadio? or Premier?

Have they had some sort of policy change?

Do you recall the following which was directed at U7 Radio?

Below is the correspondence thus far between iHeartMedia and U7Radio...   The last response, Ellen claims that Premiere owns the Dark Matter Programs -- I'm not even sure how to respond to that, as far as I know that just is a flat out lie....

Hey Jaz what stock footage company does your business use? The company I work for uses something similar for photos, but that's not going to be of any use unless people are super into Ken Burns style trailers.

It is called "Quantum Rapid Slippage" (QRS) where clips from Art Bell's old shows emerged through a temporal fissure directly above Australia prior to actually ever being broadcast or recorded by Art Bell.  Therefore, the clips came into existence prior to being made or subject to ownership.
