What's with all the discussion on Art's age? If he was sickly he would never start a new show. Only the man himself knows how he feels.

I wouldn't be surprised if the announcement is tomorrow.  Outfits like to announce good news the first part of the week for maximum buzz during the week and bad news towards the end of the week, hoping it'll be forgotten over the weekend.

There is one thing that makes me a little uneasy.  That is his reference to The Chase and The Inca Dance.  Those are Coast songs.  Do you think he will pirate those from the show?  Do you think he may still slide into Noory's seat?  Did he buy his show back or the right to use Coast from Premiere?  Noory may well be with Premiere, but in another capacity?  Too, many questions and too little answers.

My take is that he used those old standards to say "I'm back, and I'm going to do something very similar to the old Coast."  I don't think it necessarily means the format or iconic songs and effects will be the same.

A question to the group...clicking on the "I" on "Incoming Message" leads us to "the Chase" - which is the opening music for Noory's Coast to Coast AM.  Why do you think Art would select this, if it is only associated with C2C?

In my opinion, it's been set this way because the shit is going down. I think, and yes, it is just a THOUGHT... I think we've been listening to the first show's bumper music as it is going to appear and be played on/throughout the show. Do we really think Art would start off the opening of his program without "The Chase" being played? Unless he is just fucking with us and taking a stroll down memory lane, which is not the case.

I remember once, I was going through a rough time.  I was lucky to find a stream playing Art's old shows, and one came on that was shortly after Romona passed.  Art spoke of how to cope.  He talked me right back on my feet, and left me with the simple wisdom of "stay busy". 

He knows the key to long life is to keep interested, keep occupied, and never give up.

I'm amused at how angry some are by these "cryptic messages". No need to participate in the awesomeness if it so agitates you. Art is a genius. His cryptic messages are genius. He can do no wrong. Period.

P.S. I love the prospect of a picture of his cat(s) even if the they did kill Ramona since severe asthmatics such as herself are mortally effected by cat dander, especially in the volume that would be produced by FOUR cats, but I digress.

Re ratings:  Talk show ratings are counted by average weekly listeners.  There was a Time Magazine article from, IIRC, 1997 that gave Art's weekly listeners at 10-million.  Talkers Magazine published talk show ratings in 2012, and Noory's were at 3.5-million.   I think, though I don't know for sure, that both figures are M-F, not weekends.  sNoory talks about how many stations he's on, but, with the demise of music radio, in a number of geographically large markets, talk stations are simulcast on both an AM and an FM station.  The FM station allows folks to listen in office buildings, plus sometimes one transmitter is on one side of the market and the other is on the other side, giving better coverage.  Should Noory count such simulcasts as two stations?  I'm sure he does.

These numbers make more sense.   George's 3.5 million are over a 5 day period, so 700,000 per night.  Of which most listen to maybe just the first hour and most of the rest tune in for a segment or two.  The guy has very few listeners listening to the whole show or even most of the show.

Art's 10 million comes to 2 million per night, many it not most listen to the entire show.

Remember the day that Rush Limbaugh opened his show with "The Chase" instead of his usual theme song, "My City Was Gone"?  That same night Art opened his show with Rush's song.  He said something like, he didn't know why Rush had played his theme song, but he was flattered and wanted to return the compliment.  I can't remember if this was before or after the day that Art told the story of the two UPS guys struggling up his driveway in Pahrump to deliver a coffin-sized box, which turned out to be the alien body Rush had mailed to Art.  Once again, Art was cracking up about it and claimed not to understand why Rush had sent it to him.   

Anyway, the convoluted point in the above is that neither Art nor Rush owned exclusive rights to their theme songs.  The network pays a licensing fee or royalty to the publisher for a non-exclusive use of the songs.

So to re-cap and generally sum up where we are at in this discussion:

1. Art is either to old to do a show or completely fine to do a show

2. Art is getting paid any where between  zero and a billion dollars to either do or not do a show he might be too old for 

3. Contracts for sports stars and entertainers generally are written out in words that describe terms of the contract, and those terms could literally say almost anything.

4. It appears we do not have these contracts, so we have no idea what they say.

5. Art most likely has a contract as described in points 3. and 4. that could pay out the sums of money described in point 2.

6. George Noory still sucks.

I am literally PRAYING that Art's new show will take the place of Red Eye Radio and I can once again hear him loud and clear on KSFO, the strongest AM station in San Francisco, where c2c used to air from until it was kicked off the air when the station decided to drop Rush Limbaugh and they then had to drop c2c as well since it was a package.

I would expect Art thought of a lot of different ways to do his show over the years.  Over time he had new experiences and exposure to new ideas.  I don't expect him to want to do anything associated with the current Coast to Coast format, even though most of it was his creation.  I expect something completely new and original, but keeping to Art's strengths such as discussing the paranormal and taking crazy calls.  I think Art will want to do things on his own terms.

And what I mean by this is when Art comes back and he has as the opening bumper music to his show "The Chase" playing...by default, Noori can't continue using this song as Coast's opener. He'll be forced to switch over to something different or face the wrath of the masses.

He should have, since it was bad news for anybody with a brain.    I believe it was announced on the 17th, which would have put it in the middle of the week.  Looks like even PremRat had mixed thoughts as to whether it was good or bad news for them.
