Quote from: NXOEED on June 04, 2016, 10:04:10 AMIt would have been cool to hear Art come back with a weekly 45-minute podcast on Gimlet, or something like it.
Quote from: trostol on June 04, 2016, 05:34:57 PMpretty sure if it was any time soon it wouldn't be the same sorta show it was..i would think it would be vastly more political..least through this year
Quote from: whoozit on June 04, 2016, 06:17:39 PMI think the explosion of paranormal shows has diluted the guest pool to a dangerous point. That is why Art was talking more politics. It really was a change back to his earlier days because we have all heard the paranormal guests stories many times.
Quote from: Robert on June 04, 2016, 05:32:34 PMMaybe. But I'm not sure either he or the audience would dig it that much.45' is a performance, if you get what I mean. Not the kind of 'cast we're used to from him. Jean Shepherd's show was, for most of the years (AFAIK) he was on, 45' including ads. I never heard any (except a brief clip, ISTR) of the all-night shows he did for a while, wonder what they were like.
Quote from: NXOEED on June 04, 2016, 06:38:36 PMI remember hearing that old episode of the Gabcast, the one where he called in and answered questions about a possible return to radio. He didn't seem to make a distinction between a podcast and an internet radio show, and that baffled me a little. Podcasts and "show archives" are not the same thing at all, at least to me.
Quote from: Robert on June 04, 2016, 07:07:57 PMChris T. a few days ago announced that his podcast, "Aerial View", which started on WFMU and he'd continued weekly since leaving the station for foot surgery last fall, was ending.
Quote from: trostol on June 04, 2016, 06:23:09 PMi think that is a huge problem with shows now
Quote from: Value Of Pi on June 04, 2016, 07:32:53 PMSheer numbers of podcasts by wannabes desperate to change this reality won't help. The only thing that would help is a revolutionary and different approach to the subject matter, a unique perspective, and some very entertaining packaging for it all. That's asking a lot, but that's what it would take IMO.
Quote from: NXOEED on June 04, 2016, 07:49:08 PMI don't disagree, really. Most podcasts are garbage. The minute I hear "We sat down with so-and-so for an interview via Skype", I'm out. Skype sounds like shit, and there's always a moment in the show where the call drops or gets choppy. I want it to sound either like everybody's in the same room, or somebody's calling in on a pay phone. Skype ruins everything. I'm not listening to paranormal radio right now, mostly because we've heard everything every guest has ever had to say about anything. I'm reminded of that moment around 1993 or 1994, when every D-list celebrity got a daytime talk show and basically killed the genre (with one or two exceptions).

Quote from: trostol on June 04, 2016, 07:51:57 PMthats the other thing i do not understand..there HAS to be something better then Skype out there..it sucks...they all know it..yet they all still use it lol
Quote from: 73s on June 04, 2016, 07:52:54 PMYes! I hate Skype. I don't know why Art kept promoting it like it was stellar quality. It might be better than a shitty cell phone in marginal coverage but it doesn't sound good. Invariably there's a drop eventually or some garbled audio. I'd rather hear a landline (if those still exist).
Quote from: NXOEED on June 04, 2016, 07:57:25 PMIt's the worst. Landline is so much better.
Quote from: bobo17 on June 04, 2016, 08:13:54 PMfolks are you hard of hearing?i am backthe meeting is on (being planned)if you cant get excited about that...check your pulsenight time radio is soon to arrive,as soon as i have the meeting with art, we will be back to 5 days a weakyou can thank me now or thank me laterbobo
Quote from: Value Of Pi on June 04, 2016, 08:12:04 PMBut in the end it's not about the quality of technology but the quality of ideas and the human element. Who cares how good the sound is if what you're hearing is not intellectually stimulating and emotionally satisfying?
Quote from: Art Bell on June 04, 2016, 08:31:33 PMHi again, I thought I would take a moment to agree with what some of you have said. For example I feel that yes things have changed, when I moved the show from boring Politics to the Paranormal I was pretty much alone, now the field is like a LA drive time traffic jam which has diluted the airwaves with Paranormal Radio to the point that Guests are simply saying the same stuff over and over on show after show, I prefer opening new ground, not plowing the same ground again and again. Also complicating the field is that there frankly is not much new, nothing like the big days of big sightings and good abduction stories. It has pretty much dried up. It is still more interesting then Politics with the possible exception of this Year. Some are wondering why I have not spent much time on Ham radio, read this recent article for more info.....http://www.sacbee.com/news/local/article81740737.htmlI still love the big questions in life like what comes next if anything, how did we get here, what might take us out and so much more.Art
