for me, the entire discussion pretty much boils down to this sentence.

Which is not a true sentence. First off the first victim in the latest shooting, the shooter's mother, was killed in her home where she was highly armed, and used to using weapons. Second, in the recent shooting outside of Portland there is a report of at least one person who was carrying a firearm, but did not stop the shooting--multiple right-wing sources have claimed this is why more people were not killed, as if hiding behind a column and the shooter being unaware he was there is why he stopped. The Virginia Tech shooting was in a "gun-free zone", but it had a large police force on campus that was armed, which puts to rest the idiotic talking point about having an armed guard at each school.

A study was done recently showing that higher populations, more stress, more immigrants, and more mental illness were not correlated with more deaths from gun violence, but states with tighter gun control laws have fewer gun-related deaths. This is just a correlation, but a relatively high one that is suggestive. Also correlated with more deaths are high schools where students bring guns to school. Income inequality is a far more significant predictor of gun violence than even mental illness.

Trigger locks, an assault weapon ban, and a safe gun storage requirement all significantly reduce the likelihood of gun violence, aka regulating guns. Places like Switzerland with a lot of guns have a huge amount of regulations on their gun owners, like gun-free zones, which are essentially the whole country, and they have significantly lower gun violence than the US does.

http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2011/01/the-geography-of-gun-deaths/69354/

The gun violence problem is not going to go away. I think guns are protected by the Second Amendment, and will not be taken away because of the gun-rights culture in the US, nor do I think they should be taken away, but I do think heavy regulations should be placed on guns as called for in the Constitution, the gun culture should be taken apart, and the paranoid delusions (that most of the C2C guests push) should not be tolerated as a valid opinion when most of them border on retarded, and some of them are literally insane.

Take the word "gun" out that sentence and I agree.

I'm surprised we don't kill each other more.

Insanity

The problem is humans. Not the weapons we use but ourselves. No amount of laws, regulations, drugs, counciling will fix it.

People will still kill each other, even if they have to use rocks and sticks to do it, it's humanitys specialty, Inventing new and ever more effienient ways to kill each other... we have been doing it sense the beginning of our story.

It's hardwired into pretty much everybody and comes out when we can't restrain it with logic any longer. It's how we survived and have ended up ruleing the earth and it's probably how we will end up destroying it and ourselves.

I wish we lived in a world that we dident need to be wary of everyone we meet and there wasnt any more hate, violence, pain and suffering. Yet that's not the world we live in, atleast not yet.

We know the problem, and it is Us.

John Lott sounded tired.  He said he's been on CNN.  I'm sure those unbiased folks pounded him good.  Greg Hunter responded to a British article on how the year 2012 has been the best year in human history.  You mean it wasn't?  Jim Vieira on ancient civilizations who probably thought they too were riding high right before they vanished into the heap of mudd pit obsurity.  And George never misses an opportunity to bash his bashers.  Would he do a show about them "robot people" ( eh, like those folks at "into infinity"? - Hi!  Hi!  Hi everyone!  Hi!...yikes) with no lives?  No.  To paraphrase an ancient proverb of mysterious origins, George couldn't handle the truth.
Some lady called in with high energy and spunk and pizazz and claimed to be an expert in whatever Vieira was talking about and I think she called in last week and claimed to know a lot about whatever the subject was then and if that's her scam, to call in with super personality and pretend to know about whatever the given subject is, I like it.  Pure genius.

Pure genius.

As opposed to the caller who sat on hold for an hour and when he finally got on the air wanted to talk about the way Obama is handling the Sandy Hook tragedy. This during Mr. Vieria's interview. Pure stupidity. ( I'm sure I've heard the same caller do the same thing before. Makes me wonder what he's telling the call screeners.)

Mr. Noory is providing a wonderful service to those of us who will be spending the holidays alone.  It is difficult to imagine a lovelier way to spend a lonely Christmas night than by listening to unqualified, uneducated charlatans and hucksters predict economic collapse and other doomsday scenarios.

P.S.  Did I mention that the vast majority of Mr. Noory's guests are unqualified, uneducated charlatans and hucksters?

Hollywood needs to come out with a trendy movie, something like young, lost zombie lovers, with the hunk zombie being named Goliath.  Problem solved for the next generation.

Did anyone listen to Noory begin a rant on the HATERS who have no lives?  He was referring to listeners who don't LIKE HIM.....he was ready to blow but held back and said, nevermind.

Uhhhmmmmm.....HATERS?  Most listeners praise Knapp and some like Ian and Wells..........wouldn't the TRUE DEFINITION of a HATER be someone who likes NONE of the hosts?

Jorch must have been reading the comments on his pizza roll escapade.  ;D

Did anyone listen to Noory begin a rant on the HATERS who have no lives?...

A few years ago George had some guest on who was complaining that he'd gotten a bunch of negative emails about his upcoming appearance on Coast.  George laughed it off and said something like internet criticism meant he was becoming known and that the guest was 'runnin' with thuh big dogs now'.

George really should do a show on this.  For one segment he could make a list of the top 20 or so criticisms of him, read them to thuh lissners, explain why in ten years he hadn't fixed even one, and have people call in.

He could find some choice posts and read those.  And some emails.  At the end of the show he could blast everyone, then resign.

"Thuh big dogs...."  hahahah.... well Jorch is a wienie.  ;)

Sleepwalker

If Mr. Noory thinks I am a loser and hater because I think Coast to Coast AM is a contemptible piece of trash, then I am a loser and hater.

I hate the fact that Coast to Coast regularly features huckster guests who tell Coast's gullible listeners that many of the worst tragedies in American history (9-11, the Oklahoma City Bombing, the Aurora shootings) are "false flag" operations staged by their own government.  Did George ever stop to think that some people in his audience may be unbalanced and may be encouraged to do bad things because of the stupidity they hear on his show? People like Timothy McVeigh?

I hate the fact that George and his guests tell their gullible listeners that economic collapse is imminent and other disasters are just around the corner.  I hate the fact that, before the dead children's bodies were removed from their classroom in Newtown, George was interviewing John Lott, the author of More Guns Less Crime.  How crass is that?  There is a time for reasonable people to discuss gun control, pro or con.  That was not the appropriate time.

Give your call screeners a night off sometime, George, and let some people with triple-digit IQs call in instead of your double-digit IQ followers.  People who don't wear tin-foil hats.  People who don't believe in all the stupidity spewed by Alex Jones and your other purveyors of conspiracy/doomsday scenarios.

i recall art acknowledging them, but not complaining about them like some sheltered sissy.  that's what i see as the difference.

Noory has another show about the evil reptilians tonight.
Maybe Noory himself is one of those reptilian shapeshifters? Look for the slit-like eyes...

It's a good thing George didn't hear Michio Kaku's Science Fantastic show Saturday night.  He was interviewing another real, credentialed scientist and making fun of the type of idiocy spewed out on Coast to Coast AM.  He didn't mention Coast to Coast by name but it was obvious those were the kind of imbeciles he had in mind.

popple

How is it that every time someone is told they suck that they always come up with the same unoriginal and uninspired image of the "hater". The hater is always someone who is an uneducated "loser" with no life sitting safely behind a computer. Usually in their parents basement. They're always trying to make themselves feel better, right? People who criticize never have an actual point after all.

Jorch was a capital douche-bag to that one caller last night who waited an hour to talk.

@Sleepwalker I would love to hear that snippet of the show.

I'm always surprised when Noory acknowledges us. It means he knows we're here and what we're saying; if I saw this much vitriol steaming in my direction, I'd seriously reconsider my career choice. Can this many people be 100% wrong? I think not.

It'll be months before he gives us another nod, and I'll forget that he may actually read this. Though I suspect Tommy has to read it to him.

I think Art viewed Coast to Coast AM as pure entertainment, a great gig he could do from his double-wide in the desert.  A gig that allowed him to trade in his Geo Metro for a Trans Am and a nice paycheck.  As long as he kept piling on radio stations Art was happy.  There was a guy in the early days of Art's show who would call in and vigorously challenge him on a semi-regular basis - accusing him of promoting pseudo-science.  Art always took his calls and, as I remember, considered him a welcome part of the show, like J.C.  It was all just middle of the night fun for Art.

Sometimes I wonder, but with that huge yet fragile ego I'm guessing he can't help but look.  It's part of his eight hours of daily show prep - somewhere between lunch and looking for doomed animal stories on the internet.

It probably bottles up for a couple months then eventually bubbles over.  The cycle may go something like this:  boil over and mention on the air, feel better for awhile, read again and laugh about it, poke fun at the posters with his staff, tell himself  it doesn't matter, tell himself he doesn't care, blow off steam with Tommy, send another email to the PremRat lawyers, boil over again..

Noory is a gift to radio. Stop hating, haters.

NoMoreNoory

Anyone got a rough time for the 'hater rant'? Can't seem to find it.

There were a few juicy moments last night. Joorch came in after the break with a strange 'Indeed! Indeed! Indeed!' before urging us all to go and visit the Coast website. Go there once a day, he said, go there twice a day. Make it one of your favourites. Then his voice got slightly slurred and he almost muttered to himself 'Do I have to spell it out all the time?' Very bizarre.

And then a classic Nooryism that should go with the quotes right at the top of this thread. Marty came on - shortly after Joorch 'predicted' a harsh New England winter - and accused The Smithsonian of having 'sold out to the whole evolution concept'. Marty thinks the Smithsonian is hiding giant skeletons because they will disprove evolution. 'We were supposed to have started out smaller,' said Marty, 'and got bigger, stronger, smarter.'

sNoory cut right across him with this deathless observation:

'Instead, we're getting bigger and going, getting smaller.'

He followed it up with the right hook......'You're breaking up there, Marty.....' Click
