George Noory Sucks! - The Definitive Compendium

Can Noory pronounce anything correctly?

No
No

136 or 142

On the Rush matter.  I saw a replay of the Juno Awards where the great mayor of Calgary, Naheed Menshi, mentioned that the group had donated over $570,000 just for Calgary flood relief.  So, Rush has almost certainly donated millions to charity.  They've certainly come a long way since their Ayn Rand days.

I wish I could have a Rush Complete collection, remastered with all vocals removed, and with all lyrics in an accompanying book to read while listening to their cool instrumentals.  I believe this would actually sell.

On last Wednesday's show George Played "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" by Quincy Jones, "Three Times a Lady" By The Commodores, "Stand By My" by Ben E. King and "Wonderful World" by Sam Cooke.  He also plays some Jimi Hendrix on a fairly regular basis as well as other Sam Cooke songs.

Thank you, 136. Very happy to stand corrected.

My wider point about Noory's general lack of connection to music stands, though, I think.

136 or 142

Yes.  Well George clearly doesn't like funk or rap (good taste imo), but I don't know why he doesn't play more Motown, which started in his generation, or even Pre Motown like more frequent Sam Cooke or, of course,  Little Richard or Chuck Barry or any of the Doo Wap bands of the 1950s which he clearly likes. The Five Satins, The Moonglows or any of the others mentioned in the Paul Simon song.

Meh, the only thing I've noted about Noory's music taste is that he's younger than Art, yet seems to prefer old crooner retirement home type music while Art has always been more of a rocker.  I'm not the only one who got hooked on Art's show as a kid, Art was able to transcend generational boundaries - I'm just wondering if in 10 years any adults will be saying they got hooked on Coast as kids under Noory's tenure.

I think it's not so much that Noory has bad taste in music, but that he's got an extremely superficial connection to it.  He seems to just like little tunes he can hum along to, and is lacking the passion that many of us have to the lyrics, or musicianship, or historical significance.

That said, anyone who plays that friggin whistling Scorpions ballad or friggin Kenny G muzak or friggin doo-wop cornball stuff has bad taste in music.

I'd let most of Noory's bumper music slide, all except UFO Phil "music" that is :o

Abba and The Moody Blues. Rocker? OK.

Paul Simon and Paul Shaffer are both big doo-wop fans.

Differences of opinion aside, we - and music-lovers everywhere - wait with bated breath to hear what new, hitherto neglected gems Joorch will unleash upon the ears of an astonished and grateful public over the next few hours. Yes, folks.....first Sunday in the month.....Submerging Artists.

That was meant generally - Blue Oyster Cult, the Doors, Led Zeppelin, Electric Light Orchestra, Moody Blues, Zager & Evans, Doobie Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Heart, Supertramp, Golden Earring, to name a few. Plus his background before talk radio was in rock radio.

This is the wonderful Paul Simon song mentioning the Doo-Wap bands.  Not a Doo Wap song though.

I would so love to hear Howard Bloom school Snorge on the world.

Too bad trying to teach Snorge is like trying to fix a dam with a hundred leaks with one piece of bubble gum.

I have posted this before, but i swear you cant get enough of it. A little more black shoe polish and i swear its just the type of show George should be doing! "Would you turn your radio down please".. and the "It's a vice George, and I'm going to put you head in it, and squeeze it, until that mustache of yours pops off.."

SCTV, 1/16/81 - "DIALING FOR DOLLARS" WITH WALTER CRONKITE
Your SCTV post reminded me that Eugene Levy and Cathrine O'Hara have a new show that I have been meaning to check out.  If their past performances are any indicator, Schitts creek promises to be worth my time.  To keep this on topic, time spent watching Schitts creek will certainly be better spent than that listening to Jorch the magnificent inept.

Heh heh. All the big Rush fans I've known have been major league assholes. They seem to attract them like flies.
I think they're the greatest fucking rock outfit ever, so I guess that proves your theorem.

Actually, there isn't anything against charity in practiced objectivism if the motivation and choice is their own and pure.

And RUSH was never a rote adherent to Rand.  (Is anyone ever really?).  They adopted elements to their lives and wrote some music exploring the idea, but it was never their ethos.

Rand is best adopted and understood by applying elements to your life, and a wake up call to your own potential, desires, and motivations.    Attempting to apply strict objectivism is just an autistic circle jerk.  Rand had to be extreme in her views to get her point across and provide an intellectual anchor.

Gassy Man

George, in typical moronic fashion, asks a question of his nutrition expert or whatever, and instead of letting the person answer, interjects some stupid comment that changes the direction of the conversation.  The original question never gets answer, and the conversation turns into "Can you smell if peanut butter's bad?"

He has no self control.  It's one of the reasons he is such an awful interviewer.  He doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut and let the guest talk, and when he should ask a follow up question, he just goes in another generally unrelated and sophomoric direction.

Well obviously I was being a bit facetious but my point is I just don't think "Breakin' Up is Hard To Do" belongs on what's supposed to be an edgy paranormal radio show (unless someone broke up with a Bigfoot or somethin).

Tommy does play Limelight by Rush sometimes.

Perhaps it is just George's way of dealing with fame...

It is unacceptable for George to sabotage a discussion like that, stay on topic Totino.

Tommy just loves him some food, and thinks it is cool the word lime is in the title.

Well he's admitted on here something about having ADHD, and he seems really skeptical about "mainstream" medicine (usually I'd agree but he might need it) so chances are he's off his meds which explains sooooo much about how his interviews are conducted...

George has been self-medicating with booze for years now.  Thats pretty damn "mainstream" if you ask me.

Gassy Man

It's astounding.  Someone with George's deficiency should be doing something else for a living if he can't perform the simplest function of shutting up and/or staying on topic, a requirement for the job.  I can not wait till Art's show is on.

Thanks to Jorch  I now know the Scorpions are an emerging artist.

Any relation to a certain scorpion army?!?

CLASSIC Noory "news" segment tonight.....Did I hear him call the Higg's Boson the "dog" particle?

THEN when he intros Joel Wallach, he wishes him a "Happy Easter."  That's real nice George, but almost everyone named Wallach (that I know about anyway) happens to be JEWISH!

Someone in the PremRat production dept has got to make up a Noory blooper tape and market it.  Hell, they probably already have one and when the dimwit isn't around, they hang out and drink beer and laugh their asses off at their idiot boss...
