George botches interview with Stephen Pinker

To begin with, George says "By the way great book," and you know George didn't even go as far as reading the book jacket on Pinker's book he was promoting. Then, throughout the interview he asks him silly questions like "I've noticed people are acting stranger than ever before." Doesn't give any examples or anything just people are acting strange!!! Pinker chuckles at what a ridiculous question this is and then brings some relevance by saying that when people notice things like this they are referring to isolated incidents. Then later George asks about serial killers and if there's more of those today than before (Pinker's thesis was that violence was decreasing in the world as a whole). The funniest came right before a break, Pinker is discussing something about George's idiotic proposition that violence was decreasing because of concealed weapons permits, Pinker goes into an in depth answer refuting George and then George interrupts and doesn't say we'll get back to the question after the break, but "Look into your crystal ball in the future and tell us what kind of a life we're gonna have." In other words, lets get back to my fluff questions which don't specifically address anything from the book, just general questions George must've thought of when his producer told him the thesis of the book.

I swear there were so many times, like when George said "freaking out" that Pinker laughed at the incredulity of George's childlike questions. And George has no shame or self awareness. He doesn't get that his questions are born out of his childlike mind and his laziness, of not reading the guest's material before he goes on. I contrast this to an excellent interview given by George Knapp to Johnathan Krapnel I think was his name about comic book writers and artists and their supernatural experiences. Knapp referred to specific things from chapters in the book and admitted he didn't read the whole thing, but read as much as he could. George Noory doesn't seem like he read any parts of any book a guest is promoting.

Wow. I can't actually believe Steven Pinker gave C2CAM the time of day.  He may be one of the more pop-culture friendly philosopher/psychologists (with his famous mane of hair), but he's the real deal none the less.  His people must really want to push books.

I bet it was pathetic. I would say that maybe I'll download it, but I'm not a masochist. The producers really ought to have had Ian field this one, but I can imagine Saturdays are a no-go for some guests.

Ironically, by the end of the interview I'm sure Pinker had nothing but violent feelings towards Noory and his mutant callers.

And this is the reason I came back to CoastGab.

Do you also notice that George always tries to insert pet causes into discussions which may not even be related. Like he has this thing for concealed weapons permits and he's always talking about carrying a hand gun. It's like his abiotic oil theory. He'll insert his pet causes into discussions no matter how far afield they are.

Believe me by the end of the interview his responses were on autopilot. I felt he was dumbing down his responses to fit George's idiotic questions and I think it might've been fun for him even to take George's wildly ignorant questions and ground them in real science. The callers didn't offer much of a difference either, with their mostly simple comments/questions.
