I drink more coffee than I should (4-5 cups some mornings).  I think I'll go back to a half-decaff mix; it takes the edge off a bit, but coffee does give me an acid stomach sometimes.  I probably ought to switch to just two cups a day.

I cut off coffee cold turkey about three weeks ago.. I only had a cup or two a day. I have noticed so many benefits to the no coffee life. Better skin, healthy hair, no bloating from being dehydrated, and a few other things.

To summarize! I hate not having my morning coffee and I will start back up tomorrow. No de-caff, I want the pure goods sir. Back to the black with real vengeance.

Thank you Mr West. :)

Things that annoy me: I can't find a job, I'm low on freelance writing gigs right now and I have about $40 to my name. And my doctor won't refill my Ambien prescription.

Annoying.

Sorry - didn't mean to break up the smoking conversation. I thought maybe if I typed it here, the whole dismal scenario would stop eating away at my brain and maybe I could get some sleep. Goodnight! :)

Ouch. That Zolpidem is wicked stuff. Try a strong cup or two of herbal  honey chamomile tea. Msybe a tiny bit of melatonin (.25 mg).

I quit cold turkey in 1980 and to this day I can't walk by someone who is smoking without feeling like I'm going to leave my feet and float after the trail of smoke, nose twitching, like some cartoon character smelling a steak. It doesn't stop, but fortunately being near heavy smokers and having to endure the unbelievable stale smoke stink that permeates their clothes, homes and car (and skin, for all I know) is more than sufficient to prevent me from even considering starting again. I can't imagine dating a smoker. - like licking an ashtray, as they say.

On the plus side, I'm still alive, and I'm certain I wouldn't be if I had continued to smoke.

I know the feeling. Every time I walk past a random person who is smoking I love to take a whiff of the aroma. I especially love the smell of rolled cigarettes. Having said that I almost dry retch everytime I smell my brother, who is a chain smoker, or other workmates especially after he or they have just had a cigarette.

I quit smoking six or seven years ago. And in order to do it I also quit drinking. Which meant my social life basically imploded. But it worked.

I started walking and drinking assloads of coffee instead.

I had to quit drinking when I quit smoking because for me I simply can not drink without smoking. A sad state of affairs but I needed to quit the smokes so I had to quit the drink too.

Yeah once on a hypnotic it is tough to start sleeping without their use. You certainly can try a tea, melatonin, or several over the counter treatments.

You probably aren't going to like my suggestion, but here goes.

Good sleep like many other things is a habit. Go to bed at the same time every night. If you can't sleep, get up and do something relaxing (boring) till sleepy then head back to bed. Get up at the same time every day. Even if you slept only a few moments, get up and do your daily stuff and under no circumstance take a nap. Go to bed at the same time every night (yes I know I already said it... needs to be repeated). Get up at the same time every morning. It may take days, maybe a week, but unless there is some significant reason a normal sleep pattern will start to develop.

Unfortunately the late night radio stuff is killer to sleep. There is no good answer except withholding listening live and waiting for a replay. Not fun, but definitely healthier.

There are lots of things to set up good sleep, most of them however take time to establish. Exercise is probably the best thing, but needs to happen several hours before thinking of sleep. Good conversation with a close friend believe it or not can be one of the most relaxing things anyone can do.

You explained free lance writing, if you are working at home, do not have your work in your sleep area. Put it as far from your bed as possible. Generally speaking, people that work from home have horrible sleep habits.

If you can't sleep, try not to worry too much about it and remember your ability to sleep will get better.

Get off of the ambien dude ..
It took me years to straighten out my sleep habits ..( worked as an emergency intake officer  night shift for 10 years ..) ambien seemed like a godsend, but all it did is give me the illusion of getting sleep .

At least I'm dreaming again without the Ambien. Of course, last night I had a dream that I had that Morgellons disease and couldn't stop pulling red and blue threads out of my skin. Ugh. Someone mentioned it on another thread here and then I had to go and Google it. Then I found this lady's creepy and disturbing site â€" http://www.morgellonsexposed.com â€" and whammo, my subconscious mind apparently got traumatized as hell.  :o

Ha. Oh, that Morgellons stuff creeps me out. I can't even handle reading about it.

I've had some wild dreams recently. As I do meditations before bed, that certainly promps them. I dreamt of meeting New Orleans Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau. It wasn't scary. In fact, it was very cool.

I read an awesome book about her. Of course I'm blanking on the title right now, but it'll probably come to me in the middle of the night.

Was it 'Voodoo Queen: The Spirited Lives of Marie Laveau' by Martha Ward? I'm ordering it!

Long stop lights.  It's not the long wait with the red light that's bad, it's the idiots with smart phones who think it's a great time to start playing on-line or texting.  By the time they wake-up and realize the light has been green for awhile, it's turned back to red, just for me.  ::)  I really hate using my car horn.

Thick A.M. frost inside of the windshield, nothing to use except a dull scraper & sloooowww to warm up car.

I have problems with insomnia. Some good advice I found was to not worry about standard sleeping patterns, and to sleep when and where one can. Sounds simple but it helped quite a lot during my last episode.

And also, one shouldn't take multivitamins or omega-3s, etc. if they're having sleep problems, as they can stimulate the brain and increase the inner chatter dramatically for some, especially if they have OCD.

Getting older. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm wiser and all that shit, but yesterday I hit a bump while driving and had to take a day off today because the motion caused excruciating pain and now I can't move my arm because of a shoulder injury from yon. I'll trade any key experience to be able to lift my arm over my head. Sucks to get dressed.

The first sign is the sound of dry leaves rattling down the street with the breeze.  Usually in the evening.  Hate that and all it portends.

Next it's a day or two here and there when it feels a little chilly in the morning.

There are a bunch of warm sunny perfect days, then - like a switch was flipped - the days are just all of a sudden cold.

The worst is the end of daylight savings time.

Blecchh, this. God do I hate the cold. I love the fall, but after Halloween, I just have no use for November-April.

Mushrooms. It's not the taste, it's the texture. And don't tell me about truffles. They're still pieces of fungus someone found in the woods.

It's worse than that. Truffle sniffing pigs dig them up and then they're sold for a brazillion dollars a pound or francs, I forget which.

There are too many people walking around with dandruff in their eyebrows and on their eyelashes.

That's either dermatitis or folliculitis, can't remember which.

Rebel Wilson. I have no idea if she's funny or not, but I cannot get past her repugnant appearance to find out.

Post-game interviews. When do these overpaid morons have anything to say other than "uhh, we played hard, did the best we could, uhh, good team, blurgfhasaklsjdfh" ?
