Speaking of cult movies, I wonder what's become of BellGab extraordinare Camazotz Automat.

If you check Cam's profile now and again, he changes his avatar frequently.  He's changed it 4 or 5 times lately.  Even when he's not here, the Cam keeps entertaining me.  But I miss his posts, too.

This avatar-changing thing may be some side-effect of Cam's occasional dimensional time-shifts.  I'm sure when he's realigned with our continuum he'll check back in with us.

The producers trying to get to her is pretty bad but didn't she have anything more important to do than tweet?  I'm doubly taken aback.

Well thank God it was a gun free zone. I mean, it could have been worse.

P.S. by my calculations, it took Obama exactly 11.4 seconds to officially begin the demagoguery of this tragic event.

It certainly doesn't look right.

Horrible event. Too bad the lone security officer couldn't have taken him out or some student or faculty member who was breaking the "no gun" law. Crazy times. Obama also said "collectively" we are all to blame for this, and other shootings. Not the gunman. Everything is always about the "collective" to the fellow travelers. Oddly the news reports this latest nutso "asked about people's religion" and then started shooting. No data released on the person's race, ethnicity, religion, or details except male in his 20's- unlike anytime the crazy shooter is a white kid- so I'm wondering about this shooting and how quickly Obama jumped in to blame the "collective"....and not the shooter.

26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer, from twitter CBS

Thanks, just saw this. So, from 20 year old student to a 26 year old non-student. "Chris Harper Mercer" or "Chris Harper-Mercer?"

Instead of twittering requests to be followed to students under-fire maybe reporters should be doing background or at least getting information.

I don't know if this is him but "some reports and boards" are saying it is. Strange looking cat. Still using myspace is one clue, as is the fascination with the IRA but singling out Christians for his rampage (though admittedly IRA/PLO "One Struggle" used to be a saying by the Provos?) One of the guys who attacked the terrorist on the French train and prevented a massacre there was from that small town, which is also odd, at least. On the good side they killed him and spared taxpayers a trial. Didn't shoot him fast enough, though. What a horrible thing, again. Still unsure how "collectively" we are to blame for another person's actions though.

I'm just happy you have something else to hang with on Obama. I'd hate to see you go a day without blaming Obama for some travesty/tragedy. This should ride you over for a few days.

In Which a Dilemma Takes A Lot Longer to Expain Than I Thought It Would:

I was reading this afternoon, minding my own business, when I heard water drumming outside. A couple minutes later, I realized the water didn't really sound like it was coming from outside the house.

Water, gallons and gallons of water, was coming through the ceiling in my bathroom from the upstairs apartment. At first, I thought the cats had somehow managed to turn on the shower. ;D  It was contained to the shower stall, so I wasn't terribly worried. Figured Upstairs Guy had overflowed his bathtub, no biggie. It kept coming. Maybe he didn't realize his tub was overflowing? I got dressed and went to knock on his door. No answer. Probably bailing water and cannot answer the door. Went back inside. Still coming down. Heavily. Finally, it stopped. It was a good ten minutes worth of water. But, at this point, the ceiling in the front room was also leaking. Now, that's not too big of a deal, either, I thought. It's the mud room, which used to be a big front porch, and it has a concrete floor. My washer, dryer and freezer are out there, but nothing was getting damaged and the room itself seems pretty indestructible. I got some buckets out. We're all cool here, no need to be a dick and call the landlord. Shit happens, ya know?

It is now about 9 hours later and my front room is still leaking. Badly. The water is steadily dripping at at alarming rate and I've had to dump the buckets twice. Upstairs Guy never came down to say sorry, kiss my ass...nothing. If I dumped a couple hundred gallons of water onto my downstairs neighbor, I would at least make a sheepish appearance at their door, apologize, offer to help clean up, maybe offer a couple rolls of paper towels. Some sort of gesture, no matter how empty. But that is not what I'm worried about here.

I'm starting to think maybe I should call the landlord because I don't want to get charged for damages. I don't want to get Upstairs Guy in any trouble, but the water is still streaming down the wall. It's a nasty iced tea color and I think it's going to leave marks. I figured there would be dripping for a day or two, but the drip rate far exceeds my expectations for total output. Granted, I don't know a lot about dripping ceilings, but something seems off. It doesn't seem broken-pipe off, but I think the ceiling might warp. Ugh. I don't know what I should do. How much water should I be expecting in an overflowed bathtub situation?

It's a historical house, divided into two apartments, so all sorts of things could be going on up there in the ceiling. That tells me I should call. But, I've been an asshole and have been smoking inside, so I don't really want the landlord coming in here till I can properly air it out. Any water damage to the ceiling would ultimately be seen as the fault of the upstairs tenant, right?

Hate to say it, but you need to check your neighbour is actually still alive. Good luck!

If I were the owner and it took 9 hours to inform me of catastrophic damage, I would be more than pissed.

I'm sure the current generation expects to be twittering and updating Facebook at their funerals.

Juan

Why don't you tweet about the water? I'm sure the landlord follows your tweets.

That was one of my first thoughts. We have had to deal with a dead neighbor before and it was unpleasant, to say the least. I have heard people walking around up there, so it's all good.

Because of where the water came in, I definitely wouldn't describe it as catastrophic damage. I get the feeling the landlord would say 'Eh' and that's about it. The workmanship in the mud room is subpar, especially the ceiling. The room is not climate controlled or drywalled, and the ceiling looks like someone just slapped some particle board up there and called it a day. If this had happened in the main part of the house, I'd have called immediately. In the bathroom, the water came through the pipe access panel above the shower, so no damage there. That's why I'm so undecided. Normally, I would have no doubts about calling.

Judging by the mess we had to clean both inside and in the yard when we moved in, landlord is not terribly concerned about the condition of his properties. Which reminds me- I do need to call him (again) to send someone to haul away a couch and loveseat that were left in the backyard by the last tenant. Ahhh. West Virginia. If the couch were in better shape, I'd drag it to the front yard for sittin.' We could holler down the street to the neighbor on his outdoor LazEBoy. I'm going to make an multi-purpose call.

You describe the property as a house that has been divided up into apartments/duplex. I wouldn't shut off the main at the street first thing ASAP (easy to do) and then called the landlord. Though you mention the landlord might not care (hell maybe he wants it condemned so he can rebuilt something better or collect insurance) but water can cause a heck of a lot of damage besides structural stuff, mold, etc. and can find its way backwards into things from your mudroom. Plus your water bill going to be $$ (maybe not where you are but here even a broken sprinkler head can jack it up.)

142nd school shooting since Sandy Hook. Two Americans got Ebola and the place went bonkers for weeks. 32000 killed per year almost every year and jack...two days at most, until next time. A few people with candles, and prayers, which 9 times out of 10 bring back the dead; well, not every time.

Haven't you heard they were all false-flags or some Obama plot? Kidding. In this sad case the nutjob was an Englishman (born) and, oddly, had an fascination with the IRA terrorists but also a grudge against Christians. Aside from his murderous rampage a clearly mixed up, crazy guy. At least they killed him and spared us a trial and hand-wringing over how we in society cause this nice kid to go so wrong because, clearly, as Obama said it is the "collective's" fault.

All this and how many weapons did he have legally? No sane person can say it's civilised to let just anyone have a firearm. What is the critical mass? 40000 dead? 200 schools and colleges since Sandy Hook?
