Playoff baseball on WTBS in October leads to that one time of year I realize that Conan is on WTBS. "Team Coco" apparently in deep exile these days.

And following baseball is "Plastic Surgery Disasters" aka "Cougar Town".

i get lots of messages from people saying, "i don't approve of this or that, and it's making me less likely to continue using bellgab."  if i actually did something about each of these grievances, nobody would want to use bellgab.

I disapprove of this opinion...

I think the other team was Leno & Jeff Zucker, so there's no game left to play.

The story of the White Man in That Photo.

Interesting story about the other guy in that famous photo.

He was my athletics coach in the 90s.

Shows how focusing on the obvious story can cause you to miss out on a lot.  An interesting story that I knew nothing about.

The thing that I found touching about the story was that Smith and Carlos were his pallbearers.

Yeah. That was cool. And really touching. And just, as others and the article mentioned, this idea of nobody (at least me) wondering about that "other guy" in the iconic photo.

I was surprised also about the Australian drama and equating with South Africa etc and shunning him for some time. I knew there were some 'issues,' to use the pop culture phrase, with the Abos and Orientals and such in times-past, but I never thought (never been there but have known some people) that Australia was that "bad" racially (at least comparatively and in keeping with the general zeitgeist of those times. But it makes Australia seem pretty bad!)

From around the interwebs:

"Just had two of the weirdest (and rude) phone calls. I have a hot wax bath for hands and feet for sale on Craig's List. Some guy calls and says 'do I still have the "Duct Tape Brazilian wax" available?" I told him I had a hot wax bath but it had nothing to do w/ Duct Tape, so he starts yelling at me that he didn't have time for this and he needed it for this weekend..... well, NO ONE yells at me so I hung up on him. He calls back, calmer this time but asks for the same thing. I tell him I don't know what he is talking about and he starts screaming at me again that I have it listed on Craig's List as a Duct Tape Brazilian wax treatment.... I asked if he was the same guy that called earlier and yelled at me, so again he starts ranting that he saw the advertisement on CL for a Duct Tape Brazilian wax and he wants it NOW. I hung up again. I did a reverse phone lookup but the number belongs to some girl in Gresham, Oregon. He was SCARY!!!!"

I don't think it was quite as bad as that (South African apartheid) in the 60s. Certainly the treatment of the Aboriginals in this country had been deplorable. Having said that at the turn of the century (1900s) we had an Official "White Australia Policy" that was progressively dismantled through the 50s and 60s and into the 70s. White off course refers to English white (and English speaking) as many "white" ethnic minorities (funny talkers) didn't receive all that favourable treatment in those days either.

You can read about the White Australia Policy here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Australia_policy

I won't go into my politics or etc or presume to tell others how to act. Suffice it to say, that 'Mad Max' and 'Just Before Dawn' isn't reality there? Oh well. I enjoyed IMMENSELY the Super V8 race that came here a few years ago. Awesome and fun. Friggin skateboarders and "X" games, and maybe funding/scheduling, didn't let it come again. But awesome stuff.

Oh heck, I will speculate. I think y'all should be wary of migrants and Yellow Peril- in the modern form of Chinese investment and high-jinx. And it should be Ayers Rock- if for nothing else because it is easier to spell and remember! Geez it is like Pluto not being a planet- and then all this cool stuff about it. Crazy!  ;)

Whose paintings are these?

Simon Stalenhag. He does art accompanied by short stories about life after "the machines."

Juan

Reports are that Florida starting quarterback Will Greer is a steroid boy and is disqualified for the season.  That's stupid.
