Movies for 2020 Halloween

ItsOver

When October rolls around, I like to start watching movies appropriate for the season to put me in the mood for the big day at the end of the month.  Halloween is much too big for only one eve.

Here’s the start of my viewing list, to commence on 10/1, in no particular order, subject to change at any time and any bizarre whims that may strike my fashion.  Et tu?

1) Phantasm - For sure the original and maybe the entire shebang.  Special acknowledgement for Cam and his glorious taste.  Praise The Silver Orb.  Praise The Tall Man.  Praise The ‘Cuda.

2) Carnival of Souls - Hey, it’s a classic with atmosphere out the yin yang, plus Utah!

3) Forbidden Planet -  Need some Sci-Fi.  Need me some Honey West in space.

4) The Hitcher -  Rutger Hauer.  French fries.  Special acknowledgement for Azzerae for bringing-up the glorious Blade Runner in another thread and pointing me down the highway.

5)  Halloween III -  Tom Atkins, Mr. O’Herlihy, Stacy Nelkin... yum!  We all need some cheese.  Oh, and that damn song.

My first five, with additions to come.

Have at it, Gablings!

Solid list. Will confirm that HIII is necessary viewing. In fact just keep it on loop in the background because it works as a soundtrack and audio also. Why the Academy ignored Tom Atkins for so long tells a lot about itself.

I will add- in no order:
1) Halloween, the original, and take a drink in memory of  Moustapha Akkad, killed by fellow Muslim peace.
2) The Bat with Vincent Price
3) Black Christmas why wait for Christmas to see this classic?  Especially with John Saxon and Margot Kidder!!??
4) The Changeling (not the Jolie vehicle but the one with George C. Scott.)
5) Let's Scare Jessica to Death6) Both versions of "The Thing."7) The Exorcist and Exorcist III (arguably as good or even better than original.)
8) Magic (with Anthony Hopkins)
9) The Haunting (1963)
10) The Devil Rides Out (1968)
11) Wake in Fright (1971)
12) Raw Meat (1972)
13) Universal monster movies in b&w.

Great list, gonna get to everything on it. The Phantasm remasters that finally came are a treat!

Started early with an X-files rewatch, the early seasons are pure.

Some stuff I'm mulling:

The House of the Devil - Jocelin Donahue is my waifu. One of the best modern horror movies ever made. A Tom Noonan kino.
Suito Homu AKA Sweet Home 1989 - Great japanese horror, really impressive practical effects.
The Car 1977 - Surprisingly comfy
The First Power - Schlock, so bad it's kinda good.
Demon House - Art bell guest Barry Taff gets molested by an entity in this one.
Triangle 2009 - Great film.
The Crazies 1973
Stalker 1979
The Fog 4k
The Thing 4k
Prince of Darkness 4k
Event Horizon
In the Mouth of Madness
Jeepers Creepers
Lord of Illusions
Re-Animator - Jeffrey Combs is pure.
From Beyond
Graveyard Shift
The Mothman Prophecies

I like the conjuring movies. Not so much the spinoffs.

A documentary just aired on TRVL called Devils Road The True Story of Ed and Lorraine Warren. Pretty worthwhile, lots of great archival footage and audio from historic cases, even the one that inspired the Conjuring.

Nice. Will check it out. I like the original "Conjuring" for a recent movie, a rare good one. I like your list. "The Crazies" is a great movie. Very telling for these times even. I generally don't like remakes though the Sutherland  version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" was great. As was Carpenters remaking of "The Thing from Another Planet." I note you also have several of his movies on the list. Great movies and soundtracks!

Well.....

There's a few good picks there but many of you are missing out a few solid gems.

Nothing wrong with good old Devil Dog: Hound of Hell  When that satanic pooch put the evil eye on the dude that had played Luke McCoy and he about put his hand in the spinning lawn mower blade...shivers.

Collected everything on your list, looking forward to seeing some older stuff! Post modern clown world has retroactively made most things post 80s utterly repellent to me, I find myself going further and further back. Saw Carnival of Souls for the first time last year on a https://cytu.be channel, what a dream. Thanks for the recommendations!

That's a gem. Stephen McHattie is great, just saw him in an episode of the X-files playing some spook hitman.

Indeed, she's gorgeous. (The women )

I mean he's okay too. (Stephen)

The Uninvited (1944)
Cat People (1942)

And if you can find a decent 'cover band,' before Corona-Chan a local orchestra used to perform for the music background   Nosferatu (1922)
And to support your local child rapists in grand Hollywood fashion one of the most disturbing films I've seen, from a guy who did some of the creepiest and was associated also with such stuff in real crazy murders and deaths, apparently:

The Tenant (1976)

I am getting a head start this year. I fail at imagining anything more appropriate.

Lots of Halloween-appropriate “goodies” from all to consider!  Thanks, BG’ers.

Thanks for reminding me of the X-Files.  Never cared much for the movies but the original series had a multitude of gems.

Ah, Jeepers Creepers is a favorite of mine.  So much so, I actually drove the area in Florida where the opening road encounter with Mr. Jeepers was filmed, one time when I was chilling in The Sunshine State.  It’s just off of I-75, close to Ocala.  Nice looking countryside but had a foreboding air, knowing the creep fest that was staged there.

Carnival of Souls

From the clips you posted about yours truly the "non-person", this one looks like quite the piece of film. Will be nabbing and sampling dialogue from it!

You’ve never watched it?  Some damn cheesy actors in it but it’s all about the atmosphere.  Love the Utah Mormon “party palace” it utilized.  You can see where it most likely inspired later movies and TV shows.

Nah, man. I have not. I'm not much a "movies" guy, funnily enough. I'm a radio head...that's why I dug Art so much, and why I happened across this place.

I'll sheepishly admit I do indulge in some trashy TV binges however. We all have our Achilles heel, now don't we?

Ah, radio.  Fully understand.  Theater of the mind.  I’m a big fan of old classic radio shows, especially horror, sci fi, mystery.  X-Minus One is one of my favorites.
