According to this article, 1 in 10 Americans thinks HTML is an STD.

Some other gems of the study include:

77 per cent of respondents could not identify what "SEO" means. SEO stands for "search-engine optimisation".
27 per cent identified "gigabyte" as an insect commonly found in South America. A gigabyte is a unit of measurement for the storage capacity of an electronic device.
42 per cent said they believed a "motherboard" was "the deck of a cruise ship". A motherboard is usually a circuit board that holds many of the key components of a computer.
23 per cent thought an "MP3" was a Star Wars robot. It is actually an audio file.
18 per cent identified "Blu-ray" as a marine animal. It is a disc format typically used to store high-definition videos.
15 per cent said they believed "software" is comfortable clothing. Software is a general term for computer programs.
12 per cent said "USB" is the acronym for a European country. USB, or Universal Serial Bus, is a type of connector.

My daughter wants to know why all the dead people don't just fall out of the sky. Now there's a lovely visual for you.

If you want to come over and deal with that and the nightmares that will ensue then be my guest. Whilst I may not believe in a heaven I'm quite happy for my daughter to be blissfully unaware of the horrors of this world and beyond. It's all sugar coated cotton candy clouds with angels and fairies and harps for now. Oh and dead people falling from the sky rotting all over the place. Dammit.

You don't have to back 300 years. These people as you call them have had medical treatment yanked from under them. Thank you Ronald Reagan. Prior to 1980, we had 25 times the hospital beds for mental illness we do now. Reagan had no understanding of psychiatry. He wanted to meet John Hinckley to forgive him.

But I take it, your solution is to what? In the late 1700's French physician Phillippe Pinel provided sunny rooms and safety, and allowed those with mental illness to exercise on the grounds. It wasn't until the US in the 1840's put schizophrenics into prison with criminals. They were left unclothed in darkness, without heat or bathrooms. Many were chained or beaten.

Okay, maybe I should have said 1,000 years.  Go back far enough and Casio would be begging for food, let alone shelter.   I don't think Casio is so mentally ill that he is 100% unemployable.   Nothing I have seen him say or do suggests that he's schizophrenic, to me.  But you're the better judge, I guess.  To me he seems different for sure, but clearly capable of doing some kind of menial labor, whether it be sweeping hallways or digging ditches.   If he's capable of taking care of four cats and mounting a fake head on a tripod, he can work.  Our government should not be giving him handouts so that he can live his life with the only worry of being pranked by net haters and whether or not the "bug inspectors" will find ling ling.   The government should at least put him to work doing something.   That's my solution.   Tell him if he wants his pizza he's going to have to do something for it.

According the ad I keep seeing for real estate in Belize:

1) The weather is always perfect

2) Every house is on beachfront property

3) There are absolutely no people there

There should be buses showing up at 4am in high welfare areas to take people out to harvest produce and do all the other things that need doing on the farm year round.  It's ridiculous we pay Mexico's poor to do it when we have our own who need an income and something to do.

Sounds kinda socialist to me...

In fact, the whole concept of a bus is pretty pinko when you think about it.

I have no idea what is going on with Casio. You make the assumption he is getting assistance. As far as we know, his family supports him.

You really need to get some real life experience regarding the mentally ill however. Let's for the moment say Casio is mentally ill, and he is on medications. This may be the highest level of functioning he can achieve. Would you hire him? Would he be able to maintain any stability in an environment where his delusions kept him from socializing with peers?

Or we could just have a feed to the lions weekend.

Say what you will sir!! But I happen to be in contact with a Nigerian Securities Exchange Officer. And I am soon to be a very wealthy man.

I would never say to kill the mentally ill.  Sure, I don't know Casio's exact situation, but I do know that people like him are receiving government checks.  I know a couple (husband and wife) like this right now.   On top of getting hand outs every month, they sue people every chance they get.   These individuals worked before they learned how to game the system, they should be working now.

Yes, if I had a job that required some menial task that was appropriate, where Casio could be left to finish said task by himself, I would hire him.   But I'm not even asking individuals to hire him - the government could give him *some* kind of work.   Get him out picking up trash on the side of the road, or cleaning parks.  Picking up dog poop.  Something.

As someone who has been in mental health therapy in my life, I can only offer this, I've been unemployed since essentially November 2012.  I've had ONE off end job that didn't work out due to the company wishing to change their own ideals of hiring a disabled person.  (At the time i could only work 4 hours per day due to surgery.)  Once I started looking for jobs that "I could" do, it became a huge stressor on me in the fact that a lot of jobs are "beneath" me so to speak, and it would only offer more stress in hating that particular job.  So to say he could be "given" a job that he could do, come on, would you want to really pick up shit all day?

What you're talking about is on the borderline of prison guards watching a bunch of inmates on a chain gang break rocks.  Which is on the borderline of slave labor.  In a "free" society I don't believe the scenario you're describing is consistent with said freedom.

You're also assuming Casio doesn't work.  And isn't putting one over on us.  He could be playing a part for all you know.
