MITD vs C2C Callers

I have not been able to hear all the shows due to archive problems, but I have heard some.  I have to say that the MITD callers are far and away the most intelligent and articulate that I have heard in a long time.  I was really surprised at the difference.

There is no question the callers to C2C during Art's halcyon days there were much sharper than the dumbed down, conspiracy-addled crowd who call Noory and his assorted rent-a-hosts.  Whether Art's new show consistently gets quality callers remains to be seen.  I know the consensus of opinion seemed to be that wasn't the case on Dark Matter, with the limited listener/caller base associated with SXM oft cited as the reason.  I wasn't too impressed with the bulk of the callers last night to Faddis, and didn't listen to Hancock take calls on opening night.  I'm waiting for a couple nights of MITD open lines before I begin formulating an opinion overall on the program's caller base.

Yeah, but don't forget that any call that gets through to the dolts at C2C has been thoroughly screened and checked for bugs. Only the safest or most wily get through to talk to the dozing man at the mic. The only one screening Art's calls is Art, and he is wide awake.

Similar audiences; different screens.

I have noticed just in the first couple nights that MITD is getting more thoughtful and informed calls.

How much is due to audience vs. screening I can't say but I'm certain that the modern C2C caller pool has gone way downhill over time as they are to some extent a reflection of the host.

I'd say more than "to some extent".

I am curious about the art (no pun intended) of call screening.  I've called talk show all over the country for forty-plus years, as well as having been an in-studio/remote site guest on a handful of shows.  The toughest screening I've heard has actually been on sports shows.  Most screening I've experienced was simply:

1) What's your name?
2) Where you calling from?
3) What do you want to talk about?

As far as I can tell, they are doing little more than making sure you're reasonably sober and know what the topic under discussion is at time of your call.
