Hope you don't mind if I start a clearinghouse for Star Wars news, coming fast and steady for the last several weeks and months now.

I'm a fan of the Galactic Empire, but Obi-Wan is my favorite good guy and I think this would be a great standalone trilogy.

Whilst I wholeheartedly endorse an Obi-Wan trilogy I hope we don't see Darth Maul again.

I think Maul was a villain who was simply killed off too quickly. Same thing with Grand Moff Tarkin.
Their screen time is almost equal. They basically did nothing and then died.

Have you read any of the Darth Maul stuff from the novels?  I'm wondering if it's worth the read.  I was going through old republic stuff but jumped to Darth Plaguies.

Daggit

Darth Maul was in there to sell action figures.

3OctaveFart

Darth Maul was the only cool character in a terrible movie.
You know, I tried watching it a few weeks ago with my nieces.
Thought passage of time might make it less intolerable, like thinking about an old lover.
Nope, it just is fucking dreck from start to finish.

Did anyone buy the recent digital releases of Star Wars?

3OctaveFart

I would pay for the original cuts.
And I don't see why Disney won't do it. It owes nothing to Lucas.
I have the unmolested trilogy on videocassette- that will have to do for the time being.

Darth Maul survived and apparently appeared in The Clone Wars, but I'm not watching the prequels to see. I tried to watch The Phantom Edit, which cuts out Episode One almost entirely, and starts at the saber duel with Maul, but I couldn't get through ten minutes of even that.

"Having survived his bisection in The Phantom Menace, Maul was striving to survive by any means and ended up on the junk planet Lotho Minor in the Outer Rim and turned into a cyborg with an arachnid-like lower half, and managed to survive with the help of Anacondan Morley. Over the decade, Maul's mind sank into a melancholy insanity before he was found by Opress. Opress's presence causes Maul to remember his downfall by Obi-Wan and resolves to have his revenge."

Eh, I guess it's more plausible than an asthmatic droid.

b_dubb

How do you survive a bi section? Ridiculous.

Agreed; Star Wars as factual reference is woeful.

3OctaveFart

There was also a scenario by which Boba Fett actually survived the Sarlacc Pit.
Bib Fortuna, Jabba's majordomo, was said to live on as a disembodied brain.
Some of those hack writers would conceive anything to make a buck.

I've already foolishly, spent enough on the series. bought the VHS version. then VHS remasted. then DVD, then DVD extra features remastered in dolby 5.1.
Thanks god I didn't fall for the blue ray extra, extra special release in HD 1080.
How many times are they going to sell the same shit.

I just found a copy of the original Betamax release of  ep IV in some old boxes.
Unaltered by douchebaggery, I might add. Sad that I have no way to view it. :(

Indeed!  The answer for me is 3 times.
I almost fell for the short lived laser disk phenomenon in the late 90's! Avoided that disaster, or else my 'idiot' number would be 4. ;)

Original Star Wars script discovered in UNB library

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/original-star-wars-script-discovered-in-unb-library-1.3104206

Deep in the archives of the University of New Brunswick's library in Saint John, a famous movie script sat forgotten and collecting dust. It tells the tales of a galaxy far, far away â€" and no one knows how it got there...

The story of a half mechanical Maul was actually taken from another earlier source, thought I'm not sure what exactly. Was one of the things they adapted from the EU for Clone Wars. I actually always thought this was a really dumb idea, but it was done alright.

3OctaveFart

I don't like it but it is really no more outlandish than a bionic Vader, one who is aspirating with no lungs for fuk sake.

stevenotero

We'll be finding out a lot tomorrow after the Hall H panel.

Zoo

I just want to see the new movie. I just really want to see it!!1
