The West Wing

Anyone have any opinions on this show? I've been binge watching TV shows, just got into The West Wing for the first time.

I honestly kind of hate this show yet I can't stop watching. I know this show was the ultimate in television for a lot of years but I think its really overrated. My opinion is probably tinged as I just finished the amazing series Boss with Kelsey Grammar as the corrupt mayor of Chicago which makes West Wing seem like soda pop compared to Boss' heroin. But this show is difficult to buy into. Maybe it makes me an enemy of the liberal agenda to not like West Wing? I don't know but I thought this board would have some strong opinions on the show.

I don't care for or about the mandy-pandy politics of the show, I love it. Own the box set. Will re-watch any episode anytime.

I think you either love Sorkin's style or hate him. Not much in between it seems. I for one love him. West wing is brilliant. Especially the first five seasons.

Sports Night is still my favorite Sorkin show though.

I actually liked Sports Night a lot. I thought it was a good show although I have no idea who it was aimed at.

I can't tell you how much I dislike West Wing. I finally tapped out after Season One. God what an overly simplistic show. I can't believe my eyes reading all the ratings and people praising it as the greatest show ever. I wonder how much of this love is based in this show being around during one of the most corrupt Presidential administrations in American history and people living through this show?

Gets so much better after season one. Just saying.

This is what I'm looking for. I want to believe in this show.

What season do you think is the best? My problem is this show is such bubblegum bullshit I feel like it insults my intelligence.

I want to see what Alan Alda does in this series but I don't know man.

After watching Boss and now working my way through House of Cards (holy cow, this show rocks) how am I supposed to take West Wing seriously? Its like That's My Bush masquerading as a drama.

Comparing it to house of cards is doing either show no justice.

My favorite seasons are season 3/4.

Did Alan Alda have much of a role in West Wing?  I think I watched the entire run and I don't even remember him in it.  Must have missed a couple of seasons.  Perhaps three or four.  Aw screw it, I may have only watched a couple years.

Yeah he's in it a ton towards the last bit and he's great. So is jimmy smits.

Leaving politics off-the-table, it really had some good writing.  Also some of the sequences which appear to have been continual shots w/o editing are pretty amazing performances by the actors.  Another show that achieved similar well-done sequences was E.R.
