Stratego was like a board game version of the old "Capture The Flag" we would play live sometimes in the Boy Scouts...

Anyone ever play Acquire?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acquire
Yes! That was another of my old favorites along with Diplomacy.
I always got several new board games as a kid on my birthday and Christmas from my grandma...

Jackstar

I would absolutely be interested in Diplomacy here.

I was a friggin Stratego mad-man back in the day, loved that game.  Another cool one, maybe long-forgotten, was MasterMind.
I forgot about Mastermind! I love that game, my mom and I used to play together all the time. We also played Yahtzee and Battleship a lot. Those are good memories. :D
When I was young, we played Memory. Mom still had her Sorry game from when she was a kid in the 50's and we would play that with my sister, if we could convince her to play. She is 6 years older than me and was usually too cool for board games with her mom and little sister, lol!

If you guys are into board games there is a youtube show called Beer And Board Games.

Password, Clue, Monopoly, Cootie, Hi Ho Cherrio, Scrabble and Chinese Checkers

Another of the "bookshelf" games I remember was "Executive Decision" along with "Acquire" in the 1970s.

Also there was some fancy Milton Bradley board games in the 1960s including "Dogfight" that had a squadron of tiny detailed WWI airplane models and "Broadside" that had tiny detailed fleet of sailing ships of different sizes.

anyone remember Dark Tower? ....

Do you have to read all seven books to understand it?   ;)

I always enjoyed playing Axis & Allies, sort of like Risk but WWII instead of Napoleonic era...

I've seen Diplomacy, and even have it somewhere gathering dust on a shelf, I was introduced, nay, it was a gift from a room-mate who had played Axis & Allies before and on the multiple times we played I seemed to beat the guy soundly... anyhow, Diplomacy seemed lame?

I took both games overseas when I and a bunch of friends went that direction.

We played the hell out of Axis & Allies.

We set up Diplomacy, but couldn't figure it out...  go figure...

Monopoly, spades, dominoes were also fun...

Dopplekopf (a card game I learned in Germany was also difficult, but more fun than Diplomacy... we played it more than once anyhow, started calling it "I win"... heh)

RcCle

Clue.  Also one of the better board game inspired movies.  I won't mention battleship...

I'm still waiting for a Monopoly movie.

onan

He was black, she was red. Society said they couldn't be together. Love found a way. From the makers of Chess and Chess 2: Checkmate comes a love story like no other. Opening this Friday, Checkers: The Musical.

That's the best I've got.

Until his checkered past was revealed...

and it was learned that the King wasn't really a King at all.  Just two opposing pieces of himself stacked on top of each other.

That Bigfoot is creepy, but like, not in the way I expected.

b_dubb

The BigFeet like to befriend their food before they fatten it up with candy and sedentary activities like board gams.  Then they pounce.

albrecht

Wow, I want that Bigfoot game. A fun game also I recall was Husker Du ("do you remember" in Norwegian/Danish.) It had an advertisement banned by the FCC for subliminal messages ("buy me") in the ad and "Mean" Guy Okerlund of wrasslin' fame did some of the voices on the commercials. And, then, of course the punk band...

When I was in the Navy we played the hell out of Axis and Allies. We would order pizza and get beer and play all night

That Bigfoot likes children way to much. It's very suspicious.

A great, really funny movie and very odd, but great, casting. Lee Ving, from the awesome punk rock group FEAR? But he was perfect for the role. And that great marketing about different endings depending on which theater you went too? Awesome!

This explains why he lives in remote uninhabited areas of the vast NW!! It was not a "portal", George- it was sex crime registrations and laws.
