Really?  How about because you meant for it to be insulting - could that be it?

A better question is why you felt the need for any of this, and why this is the insult that came to mind for you - and not for the first time either.

I've personally seen and heard enough of this that when one of these Libs tries to brag about how tolerant, enlightened, etc, they are, how modern, accepting, and 'progressive' they are, I remember their favorite insult is usually to call someone 'gay'.  Apparently that's the worst thing they can come up with.

In this case it's pushed a bit further - "hey you Christians, your JESUS was gay".

Thanks for the occasional reminder
The reason I use it  (and I shouldn't, but I enjoy the schadenfreude) is that you cons are a bunch of thin skinned chicken hawks who are easily threatened.
You can call me "gay" or "homo" all day, means nothing to me.
To you?  Man, oh man do you get pissy.  You and your cohort get your knickers in a twist if someone dares to question, implicate, or otherwise impugn your sexuality.
Sometimes, when I'm bored, I'll do it to one of you to see the self righteous indignation.
And you never fail to deliver.

I concur, NiT, about the so-called slur not bothering me when it is used on me.  But, and I do mean this, PB does have something in pointing out that liberals resort to anti-gay insults, too.  I see this over at a progressive blog like Balloon Juice, and it always leaves me a bit uncomfortable.  BUT I don't see as much use of homophobic insults from the left as I do from the right. And with the right, it does seem to be a go-to weapon's-grade insult.  My evidence?  Just observational, nothing  terribly convincing, I am sure.

And as I stated, I shouldn't do it, even in the aforementioned context, but to see P*B et al get their panties bunched is worth a little dabble on the dark (hypocritical) side.

Does a red light flash in your home every time there is a perceived slight to a right wing nut job or icon, where you feel the need to immediately wade in with the same handful of tired talking points?

1) This very thread was designed to tweak atheists noses.  The creator of the thread is a well known member of the "sanctimonious prick" wing of the of the ultra-right, just down the hall from you, in fact.

2) The fact that you find the descriptor "gay" insulting or provocative says more about you than you think.

3) The post was a success. It caused, it apparently continues to cause, more holier than thou windbags to emerge from the right and show their bigoted true selves.  Thanks for playing along!

4) Read Onan and NiT's posts on this matter.  They are brighter than you, and understand the situation much better than you do.  In fact, you should consult them before you ever post anything to this forum.  The quality of your posts will go up, and the redundancy down.  Believe me, that would be a good thing.

5) Alinsky

Which "thin-skinned chicken hawk" are you talking about? I think you`re confusing two completely different issues. Who is calling other posters, "gay"? I admit, I`ve been called a child molester by another poster, but that`s a matter for another day.

The gay Jesus nonsense was done with the sole intention of offending the sensibilities of Christians (incidentally, it failed miserably in it`s intended effect). That is a completely different issue. The fact is, certain things should remain off-limits during any debate -- heated or otherwise. A person`s sacred religious icons would be one of those things. If you want to engage in a rational debate regarding the historical evidence regarding Jesus, his crucifiction, resurrection, etc., then that` a fair debate.

;D  This made my day!
Glad to be of service. Any idea if Alinsky was gay?  It would explain a lot...

A swing and a miss. Again.

I`m a conservative Libertarian, former Kennedy Democrat. In fact, I`m far too progressive on many issues (gay marriage, legalization of all drugs, anti-capital punishment, etc.) for most of my conservative friends.

Keep trying, I have complete confidence you`ll eventually get something correct.

Another huge whiff.

I`m "ultra-right"? Now, that`s pretty damn funny!

Face it; you haven`t a clue what you`re talking about. Seriously, you don`t.

I'm not sure I 'immediately' waded in.

I wasn't going to, but  just couldn't resist pointing out the sanctimonious hypocrisy of huffily defending gay marriage in one post and trying to be provocative with a gay Jesus in a different post.

Why do the Libs always try to put everyone in categories, count noses, then make divisive comments to try to pit everyone against each other?  I get that Democrat Party leaders understand that's the only way they can win elections, but why do the rest of you do it?

By the way, do you really think I didn't get what you were trying to do?  I'm just pointing out it's really just the same old gay baiting, and not the first time from you.  I imagine gay America appreciates you using them as pawns to score points.

Nope, knocked it over the fence.  Wanna know how I know?

Cause you keep stomping your feet and yelling "am not".  In fact, the need to respond to this post is already eating at you...

...sanctimonious...

First, let me congratulate you on learning a new word (and lifted from my post, so - you're welcome!). May I suggest you google "irony" next?

Here's a hint:  it is ironic that you accuse me of "baiting" in a thread that was itself an attempt to "bait" others. It is also predictable that you did not rush to point this out to FtF, because in PB Land (slogan: mutter mutter "Alinsky" mutter mutter "nose counting" mutter mutter "Ian is a bully") all one has to do is self identify as conservative, and one gets a free pass on misogyny, racism, bigotry and discrimination of all kinds.

And heck, if you get caught at it, just accuse the other part of "baiting".

Look, you are the one making a fool of yourself by assuming my political ideology makes me ultra right-wing.  As near as I can tell, you are of the opinion that anyone who believes in Jesus Christ as their Savior is an ultra right-wing nut.

I have never run across a person with such a tight-fisted narrow-minded view of the world. I mean, where were you educated, North Korea?

What is that old saying about protesting too much?

Look, I understand that you don't want to own it.  You are likely ashamed of some of your far right views.  That is a good thing, and a sign of progress on your part.

For the record, I could care less about a cross at the 9/11 site.  I will lose as much sleep over it as I did over the Mosque/Muslim outreach centre there that got all the righties knickers in a twist a few years back.  Funny how the same folks who got all riled up about athiests get all fired up over that, huh?

You can't have it both ways - either religion is on the table, including all it's trappings, dogma, iconography, etc. - or it is off the table.  You were the one who started the thread, and you clearly wanted to provoke a heated discussion of religion.  Now you want to determine what parts of religion are fair game?  You want to be able to mock athiests, but your sacred beliefs are out of bounds?  As I said before, you are a fucking hypocrite.

Christians are the low-hanging fruit

This I don't entirely disagree with. Regarding Islam, surely there must be room for satire while avoiding the 3rd rail. I just don't see it much here (US media).
