Open Lines are stupid

It just sounds like George is a High School Counselor giving advice and school updates.

And Identity Guard...I thought that was a story and it turns out to be a promotion!

Unbelievable!

The quality of callers is horrible too. It is so watered down now. We can all cite an exception or two but the whole tone of callers in general is different than it was a few years ago and vastly different from 10 years ago.

There's probably a good reason for that; The clever ones have long since stopped listening to the garbage. This leaves mainly the easily pleased, the easily convinced and the just plain stupid. Out of this pile, you get some able to form sentences using words of less than two syllables. Occasionally you might get one who can form coherent sentences, but it's rare. Throw in that a goodly amount are on hallucinogenics and you have your base of callers. Stupid, stoned, inarticulate...What could possibly go wrong?

Or, as someone once reported George as saying - drunks, druggies, and delusionals.

Geesh, did he really say that?

I always thought guest call ins were worse than open lines.  General open lines are usually bad, but the theme lines, Antichrists, time travelers, Area 51 employees, etc. have yielded some of the best moments in the show's history.

How many of those words do you think George knows/understands?

Was going to say this. The quality of the calls has absolutely plummeted the last few years. Now it seems to be mainly rednecks or trailer trash who call in... or people who just rabbit on for ages about absolute nonsense.

Also, I find it patronising how Tommy asks George questions from listeners, as if he is some fount of wisdom or life guru. His answers are always predictable and simplistic.

Most likely George's bosses know very well. Marionettes don't learn that skill unless money is involved. The movie Crossroads kinda indicates what it takes to get ones soul back from the devil. And then somehow Joe, Eric, Steve, and Ingway get up on stage together w/other great musicians and take turns sharing riffs w/smile. However I don't know what would have happened if my Parents gave me a B3 when young. Picking strawberries couldn't buy a strat when half had to go for college fund.

Penguins walk with crippled feet in the artic of your mind and therefore are slaughtered in a fashion that makes even the oldest Bolshevik spoon setter seem fragile. Aunts, freelancers and canaries dance to the music unheard outside of the brain of severely autistic hummingbirds grown and bred for the sole purpose of pumpkin.

im thinking that only george can understand your posts. are you george noory?

Noory's open lines are designed to boost George's fragile yet inflated ego.  Have you ever noticed that the only callers that get through and that he maintains on the line are those who spout effusive compliments prior to telling their story?

I wonder if any of you heard this past week how Noory SHUT DOWN the guy who called wanting to discuss the rumor that Coast was taking a different path.  Noory abruptly hung up on the caller and rudely stated that Coast would remain the same.  He didn't give the caller even the smallest opportunity to elaborate.   :o

Morgus

Open Lines themselves are not stupid, its just Noory's attempts to do them that are.
Art Bell on the other hand handled open lines and made them often the best shows due to his totally "unscreened" lines that produced callers that later became guests including Mel and his tale of his deep hole, Mad Man Markham and his attempts to build time portals, Bugs the guy who claimed to have shot some bigfoot, etc.
All Noory gets with his over-screened calls is guys who butter him up with compliments or religious nuts...

Yeah I heard that caller. But he made the mistake of calling in for questions for a particular guest so of course Noory could cut him off since it wasn't regular open lines.
He should have called back on Friday night, but most likely the screeners would block him anyway after that.
We need more of the old "Bateman" calls to Noory, he always got thru with good zingers...  ;D

Yep I agree. Dark matter even though they were going 70mph down the highway on a cell phone, had fine open lines. Theme lines were the best shows for art.

It's not the callers folks it george. Art could make any story interesting. George can not.

Also art would have cool open lines about abductions, time travelers , etc
George has poop stories.

Birdie

I always loved the AntiChrist line. Best topic for an open line, ever.

This also reminds me of a good point. George has no ability whatsoever to mine calls for entertainment. Don't get me wrong, no host really does on C2C now but George has been doing this how many thousand times?

Exactly, noory has done open lines a ton.
Even with that experience noory thinks "phone horror stories" line is a great idea. His example was fat Tommy getting calls after work. I mean seriously... I thought it was a joke at first.

Nope.... End result pool stories. Good going george!
You think lisa Lyon would try to step in.... Nope!  Even tommy could say something..... But nope.

Not one fuckin person on c2c has a fucking clue.

popple

Blessed caller Michael from just the other night said that Jorch could be out on a yacht somewhere but he chooses to be at C2C & take care of us all. WHAT A NICE GUY! Everyone can breathe easy.

I believe you're leaving off the modern classic "cellphone story open lines" that brought us the great porta potty story. I wonder how many of these callers have accidentally poop dialed C2C.

gx2music

anytime "open lines" are announced , i switch off.   it also doesn't help that the host (Noory) is just as dumb as the callers..

it's like listening to a circle jerk of Idiocracy..
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/

Lets see there was George's Friday the 13th stories line, Nightmare line ( which callers used to talk about angels), an incredible moments line (which callers used to talk about disabled people), Creeped out calls ( people called about Gnomes moving 1-22-10) , George shares a story about getting hurt with figernail clippers in open lines & replays a secret door show broadcast 2-10-12, An 'Outrageous Line' people talked about cars without license plates , etc

Its George, I also believe the audience he attracts are why open lines suck now.
George lets people rant about angels, portals, figernails, etc. Art wouldn't let them and kept the show moving.
