Well here's another take on why Art's new show bombed with callers.
First, same old guests from 20 years ago who are crazier now.
Case in point Richard C. Hoagland. Measuring Torsion field flex with an Accutron Watch! Really? No screws loose there!

Jonathan Reed, a.k.a Aliens in the Freezer Guy. Listen to his show from way back then, then show from 2 months ago.
Can't keep his story straight, and thanks to the internet has been outed as a huckster and a charlatan.

Steven Greer, says the new energy devices are just around the corner, for how many years now? Never any manufacturers in the USA making or selling these magical devices.

With more information at our fingertips these days, who the heck would want to call in to a program with these guys on!
In my line of work we call them, "OCOM's" for old Coots off Medication.
When some people reach a certain age their brains start to go wonky. Stuff they would realize was pure make believe they now consider intelligent fact.
Even Art's insistence that SirusXM put out a free live stream because people were already finding ways to listen for free doesn't make any sense. So what some of your fans who couldn't afford to pay for a subscription, or couldn't listen because of their location or equipment problems found a way to listen.  That doesn't mean your open up the store for everybody to get free stuff. Plus with all the other Talk Radio show on than ever before there is a more fragmented audience to listen and call in.
How do you think all those cable channels survive? More options, more shows, more channels than one family can watch.

Good assessment. I'd also like to add two things. The preponderance of electronic distractions in everyday life has led to a decline of conversation as a pastime. People are quite simply becoming poorer conversationalists. This doesn't bode well for a talk format. Hopefully things don't completely devolve into clicks and grunts but with the way we are headed...

Also, the increasingly multicultural nature of the state leads to a lack of a shared cultural experience and makes appealing to a mass audience much more difficult. Instead you get a pandering to the lowest common denominator shared between groups (see G. Noory and S. Hannity).

There's a reason why Grumpy old men ARE grumpy.

I was typing an inbox to a poster in here and got a call.

My gf had just left me a few minutes before and was about 8 minutes away and was coming out from her bank and had the green and got hit by a hit and run driver.

A witness saw it all and the cops took a report but they killed the passenger door and we have a $1000 deductible and apprently in the rain neither the witness nor my gf got the license #.

I am so very, very grumpy right now you wouldn't believe.

If I'd been in the car, since I now carry my video camera with me at all times ( never know when you're going to see something that can be sent to the news or go on You Tube ), I could have gotten a picture or video of the license plate of the other car.

AUUUGH !!! ...

AND a HUGE FUCK IT as well !!! ...

as well as a few other obscenities and colorful metaphors too. ...

I guess I may have to put a video asking anyone if they saw the car and or license # it may be on some security camera, I don't know.

I think I'm gonna have a night of worry and being pissed off.

Aw, this SUCKS, man. So sorry to read this.

Speaking as someone who seriously only has $6 to her name right now (desperately waiting for freelance clients to PAY MEEEEEEEEE!), I totally get the agony over the deductible. I too would be up all night with angst over it. That said, and I'm sorry to sound cliché, but at least she wasn't hurt, right?

Another reason it bombed with callers is that he would repeatedly tell people NOT to call during the early parts of the show and then didn't take calls until the final hour. That puts the call time at being after 1:00am Eastern time and a lot of people like myself, are in bed by then and we catch the rest of the show on the morning drive, etc.

Personally, I preferred him not taking calls because I felt most of the calls were bad and pointless.

Last weekend she leaned over on a stool she was sitting on at Barnes and Noble and hurt her back in falling off of it. Last night she started having back pain because of being hit in the accident.

Just not her month.

She's ok other than that but insurance agent told us that because my gf didn't get the license # WE are going to have to pay for the $1000 deductible and try to get car repaired. I had told my gf and the witness to make sure to get at least the license # because I've been hit with drive offs with some of my cars.  Agent said this is a HUGE problem. Hit and runs. In several states back east its a felony if you get caught.
Claims hadn't called her yet last time I talked to her. Then we have to take it to a body shop, get estimate and get police report. It takes forever for the agent to get one from the pd.

Book value of car is $ 5400. I don't know what they're gonna do next. What galls me is that the car was in perfect shape when we bought it.
