International Line: You Are On The Air

I emailed Art after my call to Dark Matter thanking him for the opportunity to speak with him and to ask him how he thought I sounded considering that I was calling from Skype. I told him that I re-listened to the show and I thought that my call quality sounded great and that it was amazing that a call from halfway around the world can sound better than a call from a few states away.

Well Art replied with the following:

"You were great, I am going to set up a Skype input to take calls from all over the World soon!"

So International Callers unite. Soon we will have our own direct line to Art. If no other internationals get on board then I will have my own bat phone connection to Art. :P

I think it should be called "The Jaz Line"... ;)

You rock, jaz!

jazmunda

I nearly fell off the couch last night when the email from Art came through. I got such a thrill from it and I was dancing around the living room. I was like a giddy school girl getting a note in class from her crush. Not a good look for a guy in his late 30s. Luckily my wife was out and the kids were asleep. I would never have lived the shame down.  :-[

I can just hear your giddy little giggle :)

That's really exciting. I wonder how it works with a skype line like that. I'd imagine that it'd be filled all the time haha.

I never would have known you called in through skype. It was great to hear you. Your awesome character shines right through. Very memorable.

jazmunda

Thanks. I still can't believe I offered Art the spare bedroom at my house if he ever comes to Australia. My wife and I might have to put the third kid on hold just in case Art ever knocks on the door. ;)

I was wondering that too.

I imagine he is looking at some solution so he can have other specialty lines as well such as the Time Traveler, Anti-Christ, MIB, Area 51 etc.

Juan

I seem to remember sNoory complaining about a number of Skype callers forgetting to turn off their cameras and making the call in scanty attire.

So cool Jaz!  I know how you feel.  I've gotten a few emails from the man himself, and every time I have a happy heart attack.  Art's a cool dude, and your line did sound nice & clear.

I was listening that night and was stoked to hear you get on, you were trying for days.

All the redialing finally paid off. I was worried that I would wear out the touchscreen on my iPhone with all the pressing of redial. :)

Awesome, I love it when international callers are on.   Thanks for letting us know!

Did you catch the first segment of tonight's show? I was on again regarding this subject.

i heard the call tonight.
super good quality compared to phone lines!
sounded like you were in Art's studio...  ;D

I am not an international caller. But if I would ever call into Dark Matter, it would be Skype. It's freakin' 2013...

When I called in on the open lines show I called by using the normal call in numbers through Skype and it too sounded great. The sound quality is 1000% better than cell phone calls. I now understand why Art hates them so much.

I would like you to be a guest, Andrew. Just me? Probably not.

I'm really not that interesting.

I could talk to you about Australian Rules Football.

I think the only thing about me that would interest Art's audience would be that I have nearly 1500 files of classic Art Bell episodes on my computer. I listen to them on shuffle in my car to and from work. I put a random episode on before I go to sleep. And now I listen to Art's show whilst at work with headphones in. I have two computer screens. One with work stuff the other with Bellgab open. My productivity has been well down since Dark Matter started but I own the company and we earn a decent living so why not enjoy myself.

Simple mathematics indicates that there are not that many humans who have been listening to Art Bell for as long as you (and I, and others) have. How often does a literal, not figurative, but a literal legend come out of retirement? Not often, and not to make Art sound like more than he is, but still--this is a unique moment in history.

You could be the spokesperson for every happy fan. Just think of it.

QuoteI could talk to you about Australian Rules Football.

You could, and I would express polite, legitimate interest. Call me! However, I think observation of sport is a total waste of time, but people do seem to like it, and I do not know jack about ARF. So it would be an interesting conversation, to be sure.

However, the thought of ART BELL talking to someone about Australian Rules Football, makes me WEAK IN THE KNEES. And if it is you doing it? Hang on, I'm going to need to get some tissues first.

God. You're adorable. You have at least 3 times as many as I do, AND you have that velvety smooth accent.

Play to your strengths, partner.

No, not that. Not Australian rules football.
When I've been desperate for something to watch on a Saturday, I've turned that on.
Gawdawful boring.
It's like watching tennis, badminten, or lawn bowling.
Anything but that.
You could talk to Art about the politics of Australia which as I understand it gets even crazier at times than ours.

How many tourists die yearly in Australia ?

area51drone

I heard once that Aussie chicks like it when american guys come into the bars, and especially like it when they say "milk" for some reason.  Is that true?

Ooh I'd love all the old lines brought back if possible  ;D

As an aside, how you do listen? As an Aussie I' m having SO much trouble getting on to Sirius/XM. I signed up for a month free but am having computer troubles so I just listen to the shows on YouTube when they go up. It does mean that it's hard to join in with the live discussion :(

I either listen on the Sirius web player or on the Sirius iPhone app. I'm not sure if the Sirius app is available in the Australian App Store but I have a US App Store account.

I signed up with Sirius for the free trial using my Aussie credit card but fearing that they would cancel my account after the first month of billing after realizing that my Aussie credit card address and my fake US address didn't match I bought some sirius prepaid cards and redeemed them on my account and sirius deducts from them first.

Thanks, Jaz, for letting us know about the Sirius Prepaid Card.
I think this is the way to go, even for U.S. subscribers. I think it will avoid the issues (that I've read about on the internet) that some people have had when trying to cancel their subscription.

I'm not sure if that solves the issue as your credit card is still attached to the account. If you have a prepaid card they draw from that first. Once the credit from the card runs out then they would take from your credit card. Not sure what they require you to do once your credit card expires even if you still have prepaid sirius card credit.
