Yes, it's like that almost exactly, especially with the replay on the bedside tabletop radio as I fall asleep.   The edges of physical reality begin to soften and transition into the dream state, and it's like time travelling to the late 1990s.  But it's an alternate dimension because these are shows I haven't heard before!  Odd feeling, this.

Do any of you get the same sensation I do, listening to "Dark Matter", where it suddenly hits you...this isn't an old archival show we've heard about 50 times already...but a brand-new show that's happening right now (or at least, that happened a short while ago, if listening to replay or on-demand)?

Yes. It's surreal and precious and we should never take it for granted. Enjoy the ride.

Amen, brotha, amen.

Terrific. Even when a few of the guests weren't that great. Art was the same as the good ol days. A good friend of mine, who was the biggest Art fan ever and turned me onto him decades ago, recently died. I'm hoping he can listen to Art in the here-after. He would've been so excited that Art was back. Always complained about Norry and how C2C has gone down hill. Damn. Just a few month more he would've been able to listen!

That's the height of bad irony. Guy dies before he could ever hear Art again.
I grieve for you and your friend. I miss the friends that I've lost too.
But who knows ? Since supposedly heaven is up there, maybe they can hear the satellite feed too.
With G*d all things are possible and if you're friend was a good person ( and I'm sure he was ) he's probably hanging out with the angels and I'm sure they wouldn't mind performing one teensy little miracle for him.

" Uh, Gabriel. I like it here and all but could you do me one small favor ? I need an FM transmitter and $ 15 a month and ... "

AB in heaven.
The wormhole must end somewhere.
Why not there ?
That would give the word repeater a whole NEW meaning, wouldn't it ?

:)

Hmm, we could separate AB listeners in to 2 classes, come to think of it.
Those who've listened to all the shows live and those who have only heard it in repeats.
Might start some kind of new pecking order once Art is declared Emporer of Nye.

Thanks for your reply. I'm sure he is because Art is now satellite-based and has some crazy antennae in Pahrump.

Awesome first week.   The quality difference between him and GN is galaxies apart.  I really hope GN steps up his game.

Art won't be around forever though....  two years at least to fulfil his contract. I'm damned well going  to make the most of it.

The next "Art Bell quits" thread will be definite.

I agree about enjoying it for as long as we have it. I don't agree with the assumption that Art is still a potential "serial retiree", especially given his explanation of the difficulties he had with Premier--without which, who knows what might have happened? He might still be on Coast nightly or at least weekly.

And beyond that....pure ageism on display here. Paul Harvey continued broadcasting into his 90s. Larry King was a regular into his 80s and still does stuff. Lorne Michaels is still producing SNL at 70-something. Shatner, Nimoy, Takei are all still going, Betty White is more popular than she's ever been, and Larry Hagman was doing Dallas into his 80s, almost literally until the day he died.

Art's only 68 and still sounds sharp and vital, plus he has a young family to keep him on his toes. If we get a year, two years, five years, whatever, I'm not going to take it for granted. But I'm also assuming it could be over tomorrow or looking for the "ride" to end ASAP, either. I really think that's a bogus and loaded approach to this entire enterprise, and certainly a disservice to Art.

I don't think he is either ( a serial retiree ) - he had very good reasons in the past.. but at some point he's going to retire - he isn't going to drop dead at the microphone! :-)

He sounds like he is really enjoying himself, back on the air.  Sharp - sharp as a razor.  Something other talk show hosts could learn from.

Apologies if I misconstrued your intent....just frustrated with all the "Art's too old" sentiment, even from his fans.

I came late to the party.  I only heard Art "live" after the host "transfer".

I enjoyed him then, and I've listened to old shows...But I just didn't see what the big deal was.   Until...now.
What a wonderful experience.  I am so loving these shows.  And what a difference actually hearing it "live" makes.

I don't care how long it lasts.  I'll be there.  Not taking a thing for granted.

I Love This Ride!!   :)
