Why does he think this is a dome? Faint lines in a photograph from 1967? Is he fucking serious? It's a 50 year old photograph, it's going to have shitty artifacts and faint imperfections in it.

Generally he's pulling these things from jpegs off the interwebs.  Jpeg is a lossy medium and each time more resolution is lost so you figure that it's been getting worse for years.  Or worse yet; faxed images that were uploaded 30 years ago.  rch just doesn't have a clear understanding of how digital photography works.  Stuart did a great explanation of photo issues at TAM this year.
