20130916 - Michio Kaku - Physics and show premiere

Started by MV/Liberace!, September 16, 2013, 06:46:07 AM

I must admit that Art's triumphant return to radio was everything I hoped it would be. Had I not known the backstory, I would have thought he hadn't been absent from the airwaves for several years. Having said that, I think his "rest of the story" about Premiere was rather anticlimactic. I'm not surprised that the powers that be wouldn't pay for Art's legal defense. Radio is full of cutthroat a-holes who are only in it for their own enrichment. But if it gave Art a sense of closure by airing Premier's dirty laundry, then I look forward to anger-free radio from this point forward.

I've seen lots of posts about downloading to phones, but has anyone figured out if we can download to our computer?  I thought I read this was going to be possible.  I would like to be able to keep certain shows on the computer.

Thanks!

I think your best bet is to find recording software and create your own audio files.

I hope something is done with the commercials. I was actually quite appalled after listening to a grown man talk about how he wants a vagina during the commercial break. I imagine Art was too. It really was a downer to go from Art to that. I remember Art saying at the top of the show that he had listeners from 8-80 or somewhere around there. Thats a lot of offended people.

I agree what a douche.....  :P

Thanks GrimCreeper, I'm afraid that skill is above my pay grade...  ;D

I'm used to working with coconuts and an old transistor radio...   :o

That Jay Thomas commercial was baffling (beyond belief?) as a promo for his show.  Creepy and sexist.  Art should get to choose how he promotes other Sirius XM shows.  And he should have his own channel, damn it!  I know Art only wants repeats to air during the night because the mood is right, but that's silly.  Art's great listening all day long.

He seems to get some perverse pleasure in spreading the gloom.  Notice his slightly evil chuckle after sharing something catastrophic?  ::)
probably the effect of the years of Noory's doom and gloom and dead babies!!

Sirius XM chooses it's advertisers and the advertisers choose the commercials (they gotta pay the bills!) so, get used to rated X material. Because Sirius XM is uncensored, the commercials aren't either. Art Bell CHOSE to censor HIS show (no bad language) because he has class. I was very impressed with his decision since most, if not all, other radio shows on Sirius take FULL advantage of the lack of censorship. It's rather abhorrent. Art is one class act!

I almost died when during one of the JC callers Art said something like " oh thank god i thought you were somebody else."

That was pretty funny.  I like how Art was more subtle about it with his remark.  Somebody such as Noorie would have called out "JC!!!" and then played some lame prank on the caller.

Geez, you people are never satisfied. Now it's a bunch of whining about the commercials and their content. Why can't we all just be elated, ecstatic, over the moon, and giddy over his phenomenal return lastnight. I, myself, did a happy dance all through the intro music and annoyed my husband to no end with cheerleading commentary. Yes, the commercials are not PG rated, or even R rated, but, as I said earlier in this thread, Sirius XM is an uncensored radio broadcasting station. Art Bell CHOSE to censor HIS show because he has class. I now admire him even more. Lastnight was great!!!!!!!! Now quit nit picking and ENJOY! Art is finally BACK!!!!

That's the price you pay for being on an uncensored satellite radio channel. Whether or not Art has any pull regarding the advertising content, I don't know. I can tell you that if you listen to the on demand version of the program, it is sans commercials.

Dear hearts,

First time poster, long time peeping tom, East as heck of the Rockies here. (I'm in DC about a mile from the carnage, and it has been one of those surreal and perspective inducing days)

I've tuned into this forum so many times over the years for solace, wit, wisdom, and with serious props to The Eye Pad, Coaster's videos, Eddie's brand of wit, Ziznak's mad photoshopping skillz, and Bateman's calls- some downright side splitting laughs amongst this mad, mad, mad, mad world. I feel like each and every one of you is a dear friend, and yet I've been that wallflower over in the corner nervously eating the Chex mix. On this - most momentous of occasions!! - I wanted to say hello. And more importantly, thank you. You've been the Dixie cup of outstretched water in the marathon, the E-foods in the storm, the panic room with the cool records.

Is it just me or have the past two hours felt like taking shots of stem cells? (Or whatever the cool kids do to repair brain damage these days) I don 't know whether this is heaven or Las Vegas, but I'm digging the ride.

Hello new friends, and long live Art Bell!!!

I. Love. This. Post.

While I don't find the commercials useful or entertaining, I accept it for what it is. Had Art's program been aired on Talk Radio or America's Talk, the ad content would be slightly more palatable.

Yeah ok... I'm not really "whining" about it. Merely voicing my opinion on the matter.

Really it isn't; I use MooO. Trust me, if I can get it to work, you can.

Stating that Jay Thomas is offensive is a far cry from being unsatisfied. He is an ass. Channel 104 has at least two shows that are demeaning and often in bad taste.

I don't mind vulgarity. But I am also aware it has it's place. And the way these shows use it is similar to children giggling like beavis and butthead. They think that is talent.

Elinor

No, we do NOT have to put up with advertising on SiriusXM that is inappropriate for the particular show's audience.

I have been trying to reach someone in charge at SiriusXM today.  All the underlings I have talked to have apologized for the content of the Jay Thomas commercials we heard last night during Art's show.

I finally got a phone number and email for the SiriusXM Public Relations Department:

Samantha Bowman
212-901-6644
samantha.bowman@siriusxm.com

My call went to voice mail and I haven't heard back yet.

If you are so inclined, call and email if you don't want to hear any more of these type commercials on Dark Matter.

Man-O-Manischewitz! Now there's a way to bring out those anchovy undertones.

I really appreciate your empathy, Eddie. Being the eternal lurker, I closely followed your roving reportage last April. It certainly crossed my mind today. There's an almost sickly calm in the air now that it's all over, and the marauding shooters of this afternoon have faded into the rumor mill. It was a small and helpless feeling to be tucked safely away while care flights hovered overhead to assist those whose lives would never be the same. I prefer to gather perspective at the aquarium, but real life arrived in spades today.

WOTR, you described the feeling of lightness after listening to Art so well. The giddiness that I awoke with turned to a much heavier heart as the day wore on, but I am all the more grateful to be here, gathered around this campfire. Thank you for the warm welcome. I've admired so many of you for so long, and am downright tickled to hear from you. The clock just struck my birthday, and to hear Art, Ross, and Some Velvet Morning back together again ... well, I feel like I've already been granted my wildest wish! Thank you each and every one.
Happy Birthday, my dear!! A perfect gift having Art for your birthday!!

Grov505th

Just listened to it  on the On Demand channel, I heard no commercials except for the CCrane one.....but beside that: IT WAS AWSOME!!!!

I was having DL issues as well , or so it seemed ?

I too am using the apple app to listen and today I went to the on demand section . At first glance it seems like I was unable to DL . I then clicked the " 4 little box " icon at the top right of the screen and was givin a few options . One of the options available was to DL the show . I clicked on the DL show button and was told that the show was added to my DL que but other than that I was unable to see the DL taking place . I then clicked on the play now option and low and behold it started playing !

As for the ability to DL , perhaps it's suffering from first day bugs ?? Either way you should be able to stream the on demand show with little trouble .

It makes me wonder if Sirius put that bug in there on purpose to make it harder for people to download the show to video for YouTube.  Coz I haven't seen nary a link on YouTube for last night's Dark Matter, which surprises me a little.

Art hit it out of the park last night. AND that first C Crane commercial ( I could hear the unholy glee in his voice) sent me tumbling back in time..it could not have been more amazing. GREATEST BROADCASTER IN HISTORY...68 years old, doing it all himself, live, after a 10 year hiatus basically and HE RULED IT.

Thank you for this post ringthane, it is how I feel too.  I don't hate gn, but when he pulled that mean-spirited Oates debacle . . . well, I'd just as soon remove him from my thoughts.  Period.

Same here.  Never had the same hatred towards Noory that some have expressed here; just thought he was a doofus who had lucked into one of the best jobs in radio and was in way over his head.  I changed my mind about him after hearing he had Oates on his show, and just before Art's own new show goes on the air.  That was really low.  Had to have been intentional.  Did you hear what Art commented to that caller last night who asked about it?  How George thinks there are no coincidences?  Meaning that he, Art, didn't think it was a coincidence that George had on Art's arch enemy on c2c, who Art had banned from the show for life, and mere days before the return of Art's own new show.  No, not a coincidence.

Here is the email I sent the Public Relations Department at SiriusXM:

On Monday, September 16, I subscribed to SiriusXM for the sole purpose of listening to Art Bell’s new program Dark Matter.  I got the Internet Radio option.  Everything worked wonderfully and I thoroughly enjoyed Art’s return.

On his first show, Art emphasized that even though bad language not allowed on terrestrial radio was allowed on SiriusXM, bad language would not be used on his show because of the diversity of his audience and because he felt like it was not needed to make a point.

Twice during Art’s show, SiriusXM chose to run a commercial for Jay Thomas’ show.  The commercial consisted of an excerpt from Mr. Thomas’ show where he used the words “f*ck” and “sh*t” multiple times, described shaving female genitalia, and discussed performing a sexual act.  I am pleased that Mr. Thomas has a forum where he can say what he likes to listeners who want to hear him.  I have no desire to restrict him from saying whatever he likes on his show.

However, with all due respect, I question why SiriusXM would run commercials for his show that are decidedly not appropriate for all audiences on a show such as Art Bell’s.  This almost seems like a deliberate stick in the eye to Art’s new listeners.  Why would someone make a management decision to run commercials like these on Art’s show?  They detracted from what was otherwise a great listening experience.

I feel as if I was ambushed by SiriusXM running commercials with that type of language and sexual content while listening to Dark Matter.  I am glad that SiriusXM allows a diversity of view points on its channels, but I am deeply disappointed that you would feel it was appropriate to run that type of content outside of the shows where they occur and within other shows with a very different audience.

Please advise if I need to continue to be concerned about putting up with these types of commercials within the body of Art Bell’s Dark Matter

Not to mention my wife was next to me when they said that.
Now as for the cursing part, I heard Dr Steven Greer say 2 curse words nearly back to back and Michio Kaku did slip in the same word that Greer used on Art's Monday show.

I'm on a plane. I can't complain. Listening to last night's open lines. Man I feel high.
