Truly. If Roman Polanski had merely been, say, a gaffer on one of his movies instead of directed/produced them, he'd still be in prison for rape of a 13-year-old. So choose the excuse actually used on Polanski's behalf:

     a) He's an artist, and they're different, and if they say they need sex with 
     prepubescent girls, it's okay;
     b) She's so experienced and mature the law just doesn't apply to her;
     c) Her mother said it was okay, so it's, like, okay (also used by Henley IIRC); 
     d) He was actually making Oscar-winning films then - and money for the studios -
     so it's okay.

Answer: All of the above were used in The Miniature Polish Rodent's defense at one time or another by supporters/hangers-on in Paris, Cannes, Warsaw, Hollywood and/or Manhattan, if I recall correctly.

Circa 2002, the Holocaust Survivor defense(and husband of murder victim) was unfurled by some of his supporters like Harvey Weinstein. The last refuge...truly disgusting, but par for the course. Proving yet again, you cannot parody these assholes.
