Art Bell Will Retire From His New Show

I didn't get into DLM until it was shown on SyFy Channel last year. I loved it, although watching a premium cable show over a unrestricted-access channel is a depressing, bowdlerized experience. I particularly loved the characters, although I found the family dynamic very tiresome after awhile. And while it was as obligatory as it was chic, the atheism/agnosticism of virtually every character who expressed a thought on the subject seemed under the circumstances forced and illogical. Yes, Daisy dabbled shallowly in a hybridized Catholicism, but only for about as long as it took to brew a cup of coffee before the writers had her discard it as unfulfilling. She quickly returned to American tv's solid-state religion, the worship of Cool, Irony and Nihilism. It just seemed most unnatural and unconvincing to me that, in a system created by the writers in which there were inviolate rules and a definitive afterlife, no character would express a conclusion, even a supposition, that some guiding or creative intelligence was behind it all. I just found it an utterly impossible turn of events given the rules of the universe the writers themselves created.

But I loved the reaper and Happy Time characters, and thought they presented an infinite number of unexplored plot possibilities. I dvr'd the show until the end, but as I recall I didn't detect a logical end-of-series spot where all outstanding plot lines were resolved. I had always guessed the show ended after its paltry two seasons because of the unavailability of Mandy Patinkin. I assumed he was either already obligated or wanted to return to theater, which has always been his first love. Do you really think the producers never intended it to go farther?

They came out with the DLM movie that sort of tied up loose ends and was a half heart attempt to bring the show back.

I agree, the two years was just right and if you saw the movie, it all worked just fine.

Movie spoiler if you did not see it.  In the end, George gets the job Rube had and as the movie closes and the theme plays, post it notes fall from the sky.  . . . .   ;D

Dude, you're thinkin' too much--it's a TV show. ;-) However, I must thank you for teaching me the word bowdlerize, which I did not know. I plan to use it at cocktail parties that I may appear windswept and interesting.

He has a better sense of humor than the fat Mick for TRN. Didn't he call his pals in the Mossad to liquidate you for the pizza?

HAHAH. The Fat Mick doesn't know how to use a fader much less that.
I have total respect for Art, zero for Fatz.

What I've been wondering for a while is, what does Art's former jailbait wife look like now? Is she still hot? Is she fat? Has Art got a mistress? I mean, he's only got like a billion Filipina, Thai, Cambodian, Laotian and Vietnamese teenagers to choose from. And that's just the boys.

There are a few pictures on his Facebook that I assume are recent based on the age of the little girl with her.

She looks like a typical attractive Asian lady to me, not someone that stands out much in either the good or bad way.

I'm not reposting photos from behind someone's Friends-wall, but she's definitely not fat.

Not that this is anyone's business except Art, or at all relevant, either...

And would you be covered in Art's Pizza Punch instead of blood after the liquidation ?

Though he was a madman, Hitler would be a more entertaining host than sNoory.  You know he would put more passion into the endeavor.

Hell, Pol Pot or Idi Amin could do as good as Noory

Adolph could step into the role and they wouldn't have to change the C2C website host photo for Jorch.

ManiacMatt

I hope Art sees the Hitler/C2C videos, especially that last one.  I bet he would laugh his ass off.  Hitler on the phone with Art complaining about Noory got me laughing.

When Art does come back, I hope he can go until he's almost 90 like Harold Camping. I just hope he doesn't start predicting the end of the world...

LOL @ 'in mother Russia art bell calls you...and is asked to turn his radio off"  ;D

Falkie2013

I was just on Art's Facebook page and saw the comments by people who grotch about the fact that he never seems to post much on his own page.

So grabbing the bull by the horns I posted a post to the effect that WHY doesn't he just say definitively a ) yes I'm coming back to the radio airwaves or b ) no I'm not, thus ending the suspense for everyone including those who yearn for it.

Of course, he COULD come back NOT on AM or FM radio at all and do a show on Sirius I guess.

My saying that MIGHT have pissed him off but people all over miss the hell out of the guy and I think sometimes it hurts emotionally NOT to have him on the air. I know he was and is a big part of people's lives and the reason why they'll all die sooner because they didn't get enough sleep.  ;D ;) ::)

Ah but would his coming back to radio be THE sign that the world is coming to an end ? ;)

Along with the almost simultaneous event of the Cubs winning the World Series in 2013. ;D

I can't imagine what it is you want from the guy.   In his last post on this subject he said, as usual, "Never say never", and added the caveat "But not today."

To me, "not today" means not now, no immediate plans, not for the foreseeable future.  To me, "never say never" means it's not something to which he will write an irrevocable "finis".  It's Art's acknowledgement that something not presently on his radar could conceivably coax Art to return to broadcast radio in some fashion.   He doesn't know what that something is, and he doesn't know if that elusive something will, in fact, ever materialize.   But, he acknowledges that it's not beyond the realm of all possibility.

Would it make you happier for him to say "No, not under any circumstances, never and for all eternity or for as long as I live there is absolutely nothing in this realm of existence that would or could induce me to revisit broadcast radio.  Nothing.  Never.  Never ever ever.  Period.  The End."

I'm sorry, Falkie, but that wouldn't make me happier.  I bet I'm not alone in that either.

Falkie2013

In part I was venting and in part expressing my severe disappointment over having a carrot dangled in our faces once again.

Its got many people on an emotinal roller coaster. First he's came back. Then he quit. Then he came back again and quit for good. And then he says his contract was up and he was entering into negotiations only to tell all of us that it didn't work out.

People HUNGER for this guy, this legend to come back to the airwaves and return Coast or a similar show to the glory of the days of old.

Perhaps Art doesn't really see how unhappy so many people are with the way the show has been dragged into the sewer over the last 10 years.

Of course, I could be wrong. It's kind of hard to ascribe motives to someone who never answers questions and entreaties that are put to him on his Facebook page.

Almost nothing would make me happier than to see Art come back to the air. I'd even jump for joy, even though it would kill my bad knee and back.

;D

Probably the best summary I've read of the current state of things.

Just shows you the loyal love and devotion people still have for this man and how Snoorge's time on C2C has helped magnify that. I think Art knows full well the attitude of people towards Snoory and from what I've read, I'd say he feels exactly the same way. Like we've talked about before, it's obvious he jumped the gun a little bit w/his announcements and we all have too by speculating, but in the end, I would just say that it all has definitely help his popularity even more, while at the same time adding to his on-off again reputation.

Art will retire from his new gig shortly after it starts. As much as you would hate to admit it, you know it's true. It's inevitable and we may as well start talking about it.

You nailed it.

Goodpumba

i just invested 400.00 in my radio and subscription darn

This has to be a joke right ?

George Snorry 2 Art Bell 0

Please tell me that this is a cruel joke started by the Dark Side

tweet75

im sure art isnt doing dark matter just for the money. Im sure he has a good nest egg set away. He just enjoys it and cares about the fans. He just wanted a free live stream on artbell.com and according to art XM said they would give him whatever he wanted.  There may be other things involved too maybe XM isnt keeping there word to art. It is fitting though if that was arts last show it was ghostly matters and a good one.

Wintermute

Called it 10 months out... nice work! Snorry should have you on... hahaha
