Noory's Sound FX

Started by Ruteger, March 11, 2012, 06:36:15 PM

Ruteger

I know this has been mentioned in other topics, but I was listening to open lines on Friday. There was a caller that Noory was "conversing" with and Noory kept saying "did you hear that?" It was some static noise as I recall that kept occurring during this call. Finally, at the end of the call Noory mentioned in a very self-satisfied tone that "it was me!" He said he could do other sound FX, and proceeded to the "choo-choo" noise of a train. I kid you not.

I must admit I am hooked on Noory.  I just listen now for the sole purpose of the next dumb thing he says or the next mis-pronunciation...I can't help myself!

The clip is up on YouTube.  I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to these clips, so I'm not going to.  For those of you who didn't hear the sound effects, you need to.  I haven't posted here in a long time, although I am a frequent lurker, and this was enough to make me post again.  It was awful, pure George.  At the end of the segment with the sound effects, he said something like:  "My brain is doing weird things tonight."  Uh...yeah.

He also couldn't keep up with the woman caller who had to endure his special talent.  She told a story about her dead mother's ghost visiting a relative of hers.  An easy story to keep up with.  Suddenly George stops making his "static" sound effect and pipes up with: "The ghost WAS your mother!"  "What?"  "The ghost was your mother!"  "Yeah!  I know!"  So did we, because we were listening and not making pointless sound effects.  George later says: "I've found something I can do if I ever need a new career."  Keep it up, and you will.

I just heard the segment repeated tonight.  I love how he asks how it sounds and immediately answers his own question "great!" before the caller has a chance to respond.

I can't tell if it was a put-on or real.

You should post the youtube link, you are allowed to do that. I've searched for it briefly but didn't find anything.

Okay.  Here's the link.  Go to about 26:39 to hear the woman caller who sounds a bit Sylvia Browne-ish.  George does his sound effects for her, and this call also includes the story about the ghost mother that confused George.  Enjoy it and all its Nooriness.

Noory is so immature; his "sound affects" are something a kid of 12 would try to do.  In a way he's making fun out of the poor woman, who appears to be quite simple, unsophisticated, and gullible.    What a slime ball!

Lots of times with women callers he's either creepily sounding like he's trying to pick them up, or being completely condescending.  Guests too sometimes.  He decides which by listening to their voices and guessing whether they are younger or 'too old' for him.

Add it to the list of evidence George is not a nice guy.

Thanks for posting this.

What a strange thing to do. George sounds like an amateur, and it's difficult to imagine that this kind of thing has a place on the airwaves. It completely trashes the atmosphere of the show, or at least what you expect that atmosphere should be. George is just bored when he's at work. He pays no attention to the woman's story at all, and then attempts to derail her with this childish prank. There's no respect for the audience at all.

It really seems like George is having some kind of mental issue. It's such an out of place thing to do. It was funny to hear but not in a "haha" kind of way, and I can only imagine the bristles of both the audience and management.

Wow... just wow.

Shockwave

The show sounds too corporate and not fun like it used to be. Just about the advertising now.

Sad.

Those sound effects aren't that great, it's pretty obvious from the start it's George doing them.  George is such an idiot.  'I can do any kind of sound effect' he says - just more evidence George probably had no friends now or as a child - I'm picturing him spending all his time watching TV and practicing sound effects.

'We get... maybe... 3000 tex messages every day'.  Sure you do George, sure you do.  So why the hesitation before deciding what number to insert in your lie?

Then, at 35.26, George doesn't know what 'decrepit' means.

I listen to 3 minutes of this Nooron and all the suckiness just floods back.

coaster

I just listened to that sound effect call for the fist time.  It was incredibly disrespectful to the caller. First noory sings elvis and now the sound effects. Noory must really be bored with the show.

misssirveaux

Oh, I almost forgot about the caller who confused George with the word "decrepit."  Sad, just sad.

And I agree with all of you who say that his antics were very disrespectful to the caller.  The poor woman was friendly and a fan of George, so that he decided to treat her in such a way just goes to show that he really doesn't care about the audience.  Whatever amuses him works, I guess.  He just seems bored and disinterested with it all.

And we with him

I wonder if George can do Garbage Truck Driving Through Neighborhood, or perhaps 4 hours of Crying Baby On Plane...

In response to George's Sound FX, it just flows that this Friday night that the topic for the Open Lines is Caller's Sound Affects.  I predict that you will or would here the following:

1.  Any Coast Insider, Face book CoasttoCoast am Poster, and any new listener. (Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!)

2.  Any Widowed single cat woman over sixty-five.  (Who-Hooo!)

3.  Any Widowed single cat woman over seventy with new Age music in the background, burning incense and rubbing the stomach of an obese angel figurine with over twelve cats as she calls in to praise and worship George. (Extended Wolf-Whistle)

4.  Any caller who has been triple-screened, on hold for over two hours,  and George breaks into the song, "Honey" by Bobby Goldsburg. (Click!!!!)

5.  Any hater that makes it through the orientation by the call-screener.. (A sucking sound like piglets on a boar sow.)

All of these sound affects will be recorded on a new  CD or for download and referred to Another Friday night with George Noory.  (All proceeds will be donated to the recall Barbara Simpson for relief host fund.)

Seamus Capone

You would never hear Bell or Knapp doing this. You wouldn't even hear Punnett doing this when he talks in his sleep. Bad George is the asbestos host; he's fireproof. The only pink slip he'll ever see is under his pants.

Oof. Hard to believe that is on national radio, even if it is the middle of the night.

Ruteger

This is just insane. I cannot believe a grown man would do something like this! I would expect this from an 8-year old - maybe. A new low - even for Noory.

WOTR

Thanks for posting this.  I was on a Noory break and after reading the reviews of his open lines show and sound effects I had really wanted to hear just how much suckage one man could produce.  With talent like this I would hope that he accompanies himself during his next song.  He can make "trumpet sounds" and play the air guitar for us (on radio) while he struts and sings.  Nothing would impress me like hearing him "make piano sounds" as in introduction to his attempt at singing.  The man is just so talented that I am forever amazed that he is a night time host...

Has he no shame at all- will it only end when the last network pulls the plug on a host who has clearly lost all interest in hosting?

I almost didn't believe the hype of what was being said about this clip - until I heard it. What a 'tard.

So I downloaded and edited the original clip, and added a few "twists." See the attached mp3 for more details:

What an utter chunt. That was completely irrelevant to anything about C2C, self-absorbed, cringeworthy and ultimately 'kin stupid.

What's more, I'd normally feel embarrassed if I'd heard someone do this, convinced there is something mentally wrong with that person. As it's Noory, I feel nothing but anger.

Fuck, I'm so irritated by this.

"Don't I sound like a crackling phone?"

No George, you sound like a fucking cunt.*

*I might apologise for my tasteless swearing later.

Ha. It will be interesting to hear if there are any more sound FX from the Nooron on the radio after he gets wind of this thread!  :o

That was kind of fun.  Right from the beginning of the video I was pretty sure that it was "live" lip syncing.  Check out 2:29 where he forgets that he is supposed to be singing for almost a full second before getting the mike back to his mouth.  I love being reminded how many "live" performances are prerecorded...
