God existed before there was anything.

How convenient.

And followed up with a threat. You all revert to type in the end.

Again, using someone who wants to prove what he already believes is not my idea of science and truth. It's all playing with syllogisms and beneath contempt. I bet you are on W Lane Craig's email list too.

Even after all the shows on the subject, it wasn't until I read this post that I realized people thought OBE's were something other than a creation of the mind.  I knew mine were simply that (I had a handful as a kid).  I thought they were an interesting phenomenon that I later found many experienced, but not physically real, so I must have breezed over that part during the interviews.

People think they are something other than a kind of interesting dream?

Were you more awake than in an ordinary dream?

Three's an open debate about OBEs being anything more than a lucid dream.

Why do you call that a threat? It`s my belief that we all will stand before our creator. Frankly, I can`t wait. I`m curious about a lot of things to which I believe answers will be given.

I can`t speak to OBE`s, but NDE`s seem to be somewhat similar. This is one of hundreds -- if not thousands -- documented by Dr. Habermas. It`s quite compelling.

I can't speak for either. But, if I only 1 card to play in the debate with skeptics it'd be NDE's. Anecdotal evidence, I know. But, when you have that much anecdotal evidence . . . makes you want to think.

Did you watch the video? It`s all about science.

Look, science is the best friend of Christianity! It seems every year, more and more, science proves the existence of God. I think it`s rather exciting.

Take Catholicism (It can be most other religions); Children, yep children are told form very early on that almost anything they do is a sin. I went to a wedding recently that was happy clappy stuff...Oh dear me! We (The congregation) were told in no uncertain terms how much we'd sinned (as had the bride and groom) and how much Jesus would welcome our repentance..

Who the fuck is this deity to tell me I've sinned? By what measure? And who is this sanctimonious arrogant twat to tell me by proxy that I'm a sinner?

This stuff is really fascinating. I don't think we should be too put off by evidence being anecdotal. Everything is anecdotal to us unless we've had direct experience, and that accounts for a huge portion of most people's (putatively justified) beliefs.

I'm always sceptical of any organization or individual that requires payment for the promise of peace/satisfaction/everlasting life:

1. Organized Religions and palm readers and sooth sayers
2. Political parties and movements
3. Corporations and their products/services
4. Self Help Gurus
5. And so on...

HOWEVER, regardless of this fact, as long as they are not breaking any laws, then I defend their right to exist. That is why we have the 1st amendment to the constitution in the US...two countries tried state enforced atheism...Revolutionary Mexico in 1917 and the Soviet Union...both movements failed miserably...

It`s a fascinating phenomenon, to be sure. I make no claims that NDEs are proof of anything other than -- in some cases -- miracles. But I do love me some miracles.

Perhaps you should exercise a bit more discretion in picking your friends.

I felt completely awake, but I've had a few other dreams during which I also felt completely awake - possibly not to that extent, it's hard to compare for sure so many years later.  They seemed real enough that if I'd known about OBEs at the time I may well have convinced myself they were physically real
