Uncommonly good open lines last night!...

Good show notes, diowulf.  I used to enjoy the show with the same lighthearted perspective, and on occasion, for short durations, I still can.  But at some point something snapped and George's annoyances became dealbreakers for me.

The biggest one for me is his total disrespect for guests by doing zero research, having no clue or genuine interest in what they're all about, and just bumbling through generic questions to fake it through.  He seems very shallow, either disinterested or lazy, I don't know which, but for a late nite, long-format radio show, I want more depth, curiosity, and insight in my interviews.

Still I do tune in once in awhile for goofy laughs, either at George or the knuckehead callers.

I like the crazy callers but Norry too often uses them, particularly women, by messing with them and even insulting them, in a sly way (usually the caller doesn't notice.) He doesn't have a rapport with callers like Art did, Norry laughs at them, not with them. And any time a caller has a good story, is funny, or whatever Norry needs to turn the call around to make it about him. Even when the callers seem to have so much love for Norry and rely on Norry for medical and financial advice ( :o) he will pester them with morbid questions about their condition or problem. And then throw lines like "I'll send you some books," to a blind person, or come travel to some "big event," to some person who has just said that they can't pay their rent and gas bill and are bed-ridden.

I've picked up on this too.  I feel bad for the ones who are really vulnerable, and think Norrie's their friend, only to have him respond in a cavalier or even an under-his-breath contemptuous way.  Just like with his guests, he's got a great surface connection for like two mins then it all fades into a strange detachment.

One of the callers mentioned the 2003 documentary movie 'The Corporation.'  He got the length of the film incorrect (it's 2:30 hours not 7:30 hours, although maybe it is that long with the added features.  I have it somewhere, but I can't find it right now.  It was originally a book, which I had for a while, but never read and recently gave away.)

Anyway, the person behind The Corporation is University of British Columbia Law Professor Joel Bakan.  The documentary starts off by having a series of corporate apologists say every time a company is in the news for bad behavior "it's just a few bad apples."  I believe after that the film that quickly lists several hundred companies that have gotten into legal trouble over the prior decade or so.  That then leads into the central thesis of the documentary as the film goes over the characteristics of a psychopath and then shows how corporations meet all those characteristics.  The main one of these is that publicly traded companies have a fiduciary duty to their shareholders to maximize profits.

If I recall the film correctly though, the twist comes after that.  They say something like "However, as much as corporations like to claim they are people, they are actually legal entities, and there is no inherent reason why they need to behave like psychopaths."   The film then introduces the hero of the film, the owner and CEO of, I believe, a privately held carpet manufacturing corporation, who says that his main goal as a CEO is to see his company become a zero carbon emitter.

I believe the film then explains how changing the legal requirements of publicly traded corporations could change their behavior. But, the most interesting part for me was that the film points out how firms choose to incorporate to receive a number of benefits:  limited liability being the main one, but it's also easier for corporations to raise money as, if they meet the requirements, they can either sell equity through the stock market or sell debt on the bond market, and it's also easier for corporations to enter into contracts than, say, partnerships.  However, along with these benefits come a number of responsibilities. The main one is the need to get and renew a business license.  While getting the license in the first place can be difficult, renewing a license is pretty much always pro forma.  However, the documentary then explained that some lawyer took the city he lived in to court for renewing a business license of a company who he said shouldn't have had it renewed (or should have had it revoked.)  While I believe the lawyer lost that case on the merits, the judge affirmed that the government that issues the license to the corporation is under no obligation to renew the license if that corporation fails to meet any of a number of conditions.

So, for instance, I would have really liked it if after the B.P oil spill, B.P would simply have not had its business license renewed (or had it revoked.)  At the stroke of a pen the company would no longer exist.

Yeah I know what youre saying, especially about the people who are believing the quacks he parades on touting medical or financial "expertise". I have never listened to those and only know about their contents from the show summaries or forum posts. It's unconscionable. Lol I heard him ask a blind woman a few weeks ago "How do you know when you're awake? I just can't understand that.." It made me laugh out loud.

There could be so many interesting questions he could ask blind people, because it is interesting when you think of the differences between people born blind, blinded early, recently blinded, etc with regard to perception, dreams, circadian rhythms, employment, parts of the brain being active, etc. He also doesn't seem to understand that often it is not "blind/seeing" but a spectrum of "blindness." Being on the radio he has several blind guests who frequently call who are living productive/interesting lives, and others who less so, but still he treats them poorly (I'll send you books, look it up on the internet (after the lady said she doesn't have a computer and is blind,) etc.)

give me hell, I don't care. Chatted with Noory through email just now. I like the guy. What would you like when you hire someone? What should they be? Dependable? Loyal?
Try saying that shit about Art Bell. The man who has repeatedly quit. And not only that, has asked us to help him, just so he could give his show to a woman he has a crush on...make excuses, and then shove it in our faces if we critisize?
Noory never did that. He actually went out of his way to HELP a lister. Falkie.
I say hats off. Respect.

Nice to you, maybe, but I know of people he has lied about, dumped on, ignored, mocked, and seriously negelected, until there is nothing left.

I don't know coaster, some might say him not taking vaction time or time off at least is actually very selfish. For something like a talk show host, taking time off would actually help the show and hopfully rejuvenate the host when he comes back. With Noory he just plogs arounds without any spark. He seems to be so paranoid of "losing his spot" which is really never a good way to go.

I haven't listen to any coast all week. Did Jorch look at the survey of the shows we hate the most and decided to do an entire week of it

Numbers lady on Monday, yesterday seems like a political show with a Trump/RW butt kisser (didn't listen to it, but that seems the way that show goes, and of course listenable open lines, and today you never ending medical infomercial. What a complete garbage week.

The reason dave doesn't take any time off besides a weekend or a day or 2 here or their is because the ratings would go up the weeks he is off and Premier would eventually figure out that GNS and would find a replacement !!!

"...and some tap water for my friends" Norry photo is my all time favorite. So much going on there.

Just Me

I lost all respect (not that I really had any) for the shoe shine clown boy act when he slobbered on the mic his carnival barking BS over the air waves how he digs deep in to his pockets and helps listeners in need. Then he mocks and taunts his mentally challenged best friend Annie from Alabamie in front of the coast to coast gobblers after she wants to help him save the grid by installing hand pumps on all gas pumps so the planes don't fall out a the sky, cars will remain mobile along with trains and buses as the whole shittin thing collapses in to chaos.

Shine boy then taunts her with a job offer and she happily agrees as he will pay her a salary of 200,000 a year and she is now excited cause she is being evicted from her home and she will have her own carnival barking apparatus to torment the gobblers as shine boy laughs in the back ground at his stupid followers who constantly call in with how they love his bumper music and we love you, first time caller BS and all that other lame lip service they give shine boy.

When that call ended with his best friend nutty Annie telling him she was losing her house and going to become homeless, shit shine boy doesn't giver her the 200,000 job, fails to dig deep in to his pockets to help, and hangs up after scolding tom for not screening her calls better.

Why doesn't Art Balls , if he has any, catch the next back a the bus from Pahrumpity to home boys shoe shine parlor there in St Louis and kick the door in clubbing shine boy off the air and reveal how he died somewhere in time and let the broadcast go to dead air as he has done so many times before.

Ok, I said enough. Go back to your daily duties and remember, keep it real some how.

Didn't that happen a few years ago when John B. Wells was guest hosting and hosting c2cam Sat nights and his ratings were higher?
Noory had him fired before the network could move Wells to main weeknight host instead of Noory?

Yup. And think about this. RCH normally just did 'events,' interviews, updates, and cruises with his torsion wackery but he, with a good producer, had a much better radio show (in the beginning) than Norry- and yet this is Norry's career and he supposedly had decades of experience. And the worst part about it is that Norry seems to resent the listeners, especially if they are women or mentally off-balance, and they call in.

I don't listen to C2C whether your burping, masticating, slurping, farting outbreaks of Aaahhhh, uuhhh, oooooo, nmmmm, are on the show or not. It makes no difference to me; but my my, haven't you been bought for very little? Remember the good old days when you imagined Noory at the Great Wall of China? Remind us again what you wanted him to do there.

Perhaps Senda was projecting onto his good friend George Noory something he'd fantasized about doing himself?

I didn't listen to last nights supplement sales show but on the air, in private, or in one of those special "Coast Insider" chats? Just curious.

Second guest tonite will partake in "a practical discussion of how to use the positive powers of your mind to improve your life."  Seems like this theme is repeated multiple times a week.  George must have done some focus group tests on the popularity of new age consciousness topics.

Guest will "discuss new techniques from his book, including how to solve problems while you sleep."  I like this idea of solving problems while I sleep, which could be useful during c2c.

Oh. Wonder which intern or producer was handling it that day. Kidding? Did you ask him about that insurance plan and the Foundation yet? Btw, I don't knock him as much as others. He shows up for work, peddles the supplements, and takes calls but, still, I wish he would show more interest and do a better job. Maybe go to one of those finishing schools that teach you how to speak and pronounce things even. But I don't hate the guy (I actually suspect, as I mentioned before, that he isn't "dumb" but actually clever in the inside politics of IHate and the speech stuff is either some kind of impediment, growing up with English as a second language, or even, maybe a drop of the crather before shows (I doubt that last one- because if he was a drunk I doubt he could show up for work so frequently.)
