George Noory Sucks! - The Definitive Compendium

Can Noory pronounce anything correctly?

Also interesting that Geography didn't addess the specific criticisms of Simple George at all: the failure to prep for the show, the lack of intelligent questions and followup questions, his obsession with telling stories about himself, etc.

All the credit Geography gives Noory is for things that are actually done by the producers.
How do you know Noory doesn't prep for the show?  In the interviews I've heard, he shows a decent background of the guest's material.  When Robert Bruce comes on, he asks astral projection questions.  When Loren Coleman comes on, he asks about lake monsters and Bigfoot.  He doesn't ask random questions most of the time.

In fact, Noory's questions are often too specific, like "Isn't true this animal was sighted earlier this year?"  He asks a lot of Yes/No questions that reveal a good knowledge of the subject. While a Yes/No question is generally a poor interview skill because it doesn't get the interviewee talking at length, the guest knows to take this question as a cue.  Noory will often start an interview by stating the last time the guest was on, maybe years ago.  That doesn't come from memory, that comes from research.  Quick prep, yes, but prep nonetheless.

Noory likes to tell personal stories.  So does every talk radio host.  You think Art Bell didn't tell personal stories?  We know tons about his personal life, his cats, his wives, his son, and his Philippine adventures from his story-telling.  Neither Bell nor Noory's stories bother me at all because, like you all, I am curious about the host.  Noory usually tells stories to augment a guest's point, such as his experience with OBE when interviewing Robert Bruce.  Bell did the exact same thing when he interviewed Bruce.

I don't see how the credit I give Noory for being a nice host to callers and guests and allowing them to talk at length is the responsibility of the producer.  A producer schedules guests with input from the host and handles the business side.

It feels strange as a Shermer-esque skeptic to be defending Noory, but unfair treatment is unfair treatment, regardless who it happens to.  Many members have suggested I start a new thread.  I'm happy to continue this discussion in a new thread if the moderators want to create one and move my posts and members' relevant replies to the new thread.

no Geo .. he asks the same questions regardless of who he's talking too.  "What does it mean?","What's happening?", "Could it be an angel?".  Also ... "How did you get into this?".

You are failing to mention everything and your statements are untrue.

George Noory is a low quality host. He fails to intrigue serious callers or guests. I am so glad I cancelled my Cost Insider account. What a waste of money. Coast to Coast AM stinks. I only stayed on for Ian Punnett and George Knapp.

Ian Punnett did the best show prep. He read the books by the guests and his enthusiasm was obvious.

George Noory leaves early, does shameful appearances where people are barely dressed. That says it all.

I have to admire him for coming here and trying to have a serious discussion.  His posts (so far) have been fairly even-handed.  I don't get the sense that he's trolling (time will tell, though).

I do agree that he probably should've started a separate thread, though.

Come on.... it's really one of you Noory haters in a fake new account, stirring up the pot for fun.  That is all it could be.

Noory doesnt respect the people he "interviews" He often interrupts them, changes topics, asks them irrelevant questions, or hangs up on them and blames it on a bad connection. He may be a nice guy, but being a nice person doesnt make you a good host.

I don't see how the credit I give Noory for being a nice host to callers and guests and allowing them to talk at length is the responsibility of the producer.

As an investigator for 25+ years, I've interviewed several thousand people.  I can smell a phony like Noory a mile away.  His niceness is a front he presents to his ass kissing callers and guests.  Just question him in the slightest manner and he raises his voice or cuts the caller off.  A skilled interviewer learns that a person's true personally comes out when you ask "uncomfortable" questions.  Always use soft ball questions at the beginning to establish a baseline.  Later on you zero in to the meat of the interview.   Noory is so easy for me to read.  Large ego, low intelligence.  When he isn't praised, he reacts in a negative manner.

As a professional interviewer I would give Noory a "D" at most.

Amazing how this thread has perked up in such a way these last few days since geo's pro Snoory post... coastgab has by far the most passionate and almost militant Snoory haters that can be found anywhere on the internet... be proud my friends... you have served the forum well... also, a special thankyou to geo for bringing to the forefront the reason we are all here... rock on gabbers...

Okay, count me in here with a "Huh?!" I admit I haven't been paying much attention to what George does, but somebody needs to help me with the "shameful appearances where people are barely dressed" thing. Are we talking personal appearances at SciFi/UFO/fantasy conventions where hot chicks wear the Princess Leia slave-girl outfit? Or the fact that most of the people he talks to out in radioland are in bed and in various states of undress? Because I don't get the "shameful" thing, other than it could be a reference to the embarrassingly undeserved hero-worship these kind of appearances tend to be.

Or is George moonlighting as an emcee at strip clubs? Is he experimenting with a move to a Howard Stern-type show where he describes over-the-line stuff like watching porn starlets play a scene from their latest movie live in the studio?

Or, as I've always suspected, is it George himself who broadcasts with his elastic-waist Dockers around his ankles while wearing a glove of mink fur?

*edit* Oh, and Frys Girl - while I've accused Ian of interrupting his guests to gratify his own ego rather than enlighten, I have to admit he was almost always very well prepared, and would apologize profusely if he hadn't read every single word of a guest's book - which I never could tell anyway since he always seemed completely up on what the guest was there for. Quite a contrast from the other host that Geography says is such a skilled, professional interviewer, wouldn't you say?

Heads up......Knapp recently did a program on the Mafia/Mob.....and, uhmmmm....guess what....Noory is doing one tonight, Monday, June 18.  HAS HE NO PRIDE?????

Oh, and, have you noticed one of his new responses besides, TRUE, TRULY, ABSOLUTELY, HOW TRUE....How DRAMATIC!  Or, he uses the word:  DRAMATIC when it doesn't apply......he must have heard somebody use it and liked how it sounded.

SOMEBODY HELP ME........!!!!!  If want to reach through my radio and shake the living !#@$!@$ out of Noory!

Good point. It's his method of evading an expected intelligent reply to what the guest has said.

Guest: My feet are unusually tender today.
Noory: That's dramatic. Next on the line, Sue in Worcester, Maine.....

What creeps me out are those odd and uncomfortable chuckles he makes when the guest has said something that isn't humorous in any way. Weird. Bizarre. Noory.

MV/Liberace!

tonight i heard noory for a combined total of ten minutes during my quick trip to and from walmart.  this is the most i've heard of him in two years.  here's what i noticed:

1) noory has developed some sort of new vocal affectation where he attempts to "lock out" the end of sentences making his voice seem as deep as he possibly can.  it's very strained and uncomfortable to listen to.  having gone so long without hearing him, i'm probably noticing it more than the rest of you.

2) he was talking to the guest about pesticides in agriculture.  he then proceeds to say something along the lines of, "my producer is really sick with pneumonia.  he's taking antibiotics but it's just not working.  i've never seen him so sick.  do you know what this might be from?"  i couldn't believe he asked the guest this.  to my knowledge, the guest was no medical professional, and even if he were, george didn't and COULDN'T provide enough information for that question to be answered reliably anyway.  but, when you're a hammer everything looks like a nail, so naturally the guest blamed the producer's health problems on GMO food and pesticides.  it was such an oddball question that was obviously beyond the guest's professional qualifications to answer, but the guest humored george and answered anyway, but you could hear in his voice he was uncomfortable doing so.  when george asked this question, i assumed he was talking about tom dannheiser, and i was alone in the car screaming at the radio, "IT'S BECAUSE HE'S A FAT PIG WHO DOESN'T TAKE CARE OF HIMSELF AND LIVES LIKE SHIT!!!!!"  lol, it got me so annoyed.

3) then, some typical noory-era shut in stuttering creep named "geo" calls up and says something to the guest like, "when i hear the name eric, i think of that guy who came to america before columbus."  the guest was clearly drawing a blank as to who in the hell the caller was referring to, and george, never wanting to admit ignorance, said something like, "that was a long, long time ago..." and then quickly moved the conversation away from the whole "eric" thing.  i've never seen a dumber, more insecure man than george noory.

all of this in the span of only ten minutes.  how anyone defends this douche is beyond me.

Morgus

Noory started the show off last night claiming his email got hacked apparently by somebody in Hungary.
Lots of emails went out from Noory's email address pushing some supplement pills.
Sounds like an excuse or did one of his hater's play a joke on him?
Noory had an expert on for a few minutes who discussed the possibility it could have been a hacker using Noory's private email system to send out emails to everyone on his address list with a hidden virus if they are opened.
Noory on the air apologized for those emails that were sent with his name, including to the president of the network.  8)

Not exactly rocket science to ask questions about Bigfoot of a Bigfoot expert. If you or anyone can point me to a C2C guest appearance where it was obvious (or even apparent) that Simple George had actually read the guest's book, I'd like to hear it. I've listened to almost all of Noory's shows since he took over, and I can't think of such an instance. He occasionally pretends to have read at least part of the book, but it sounds to me like he's just working from the suggested questions guests are asked to submit to the producers - the infamous Simple George index cards.

Fact is, despite Noory's ugly self-obsession, I can't think of a time one of his boring personal stories mentioned his reading any book at all. Lots of mentions of watching TV and movies, but nothing about reading. Suggests he has some sort of learning disability, which may also account for his inability to pronounce words properly.

BTW, I agree with you about Art Bell. I knew a whole lot more about his personal life than I ever wanted to. I'll never understand people's interest in the private lives of folks in the public eye.

LOL!!!! Honestly, I didn't edit my post. Shame on me.

I meant that the people at the "conferences" are barely dressed like normal people. They look disheveled, almost as if grooming is a non-priority or impossible. In all the pictures and videos I've seen there are mostly disabled, blind (or one eye is permanently shut), and neglected people. Please don't take this the wrong way. I mean that the people need help and are wasting their money by attending some stupid conference where their only joy is to take a picture with George Noory.

Noory doesnt respect the people he "interviews"

Worst example in my memory banks: Snoory begins an interview with a guest he had met personally through his constant conference hopping.  Snoory knew the guest had tried to commit suicide in the interim between last seeing said guest and having him on the show for this appearance.

Suicide attempt had nothing to do with the night's topic, IIRC, yet ever-sensitive Snoory raises this event on-air for discussion before the night's festivities begin.

And he not only raises the suicide attempt, but pushes the guest for all the gory details associated with it, asking multiple times for the guest to describe what it was like to be "found" by rescuers after the failed attempt.

Finally, in exasperation, the guest repeats for the umpteenth time, "I WAS UNCONSCIOUS, GEORGE. I DON'T REMEMBER BEING RESCUED."

That is how sensitive an interviewer Snoory is.  Bless his cold little heart.

George seems 1000% worse as a host. I don't remember him being so bad when he started. WTF happened? Was he always this TERRIBLE?

How about him lying about 'devouring' Chariots of the Gods when he was a boy.  Well before the book came out.

Or the OBE book his mother supposedly got for him around age 10 - supposedly that set him on his lifelong quest of investigation, truth seeking, and light working.

Noory's botox is wearing off.  His wrinkled forehead needs a new fix.

When life gives you Norry...you make sex face comments. What else is a boy to do?

Juan

sNoory is displaying two characteristics of TV news people.  They wouldn't know drama if it burned down the studio around them.  Also, TV news people do not read - to expect sNoory to read the guests' books is an absurdity.

All I hear about his book or "books" is they are a steaming pile of cow dung.
