My new computer - a beast!

HAL 9000

This year has not been a very good one personally, but sometimes, something new can brighten one's day, and this has certainly brightened mine!

My dad tendered his thanks over the past number of months by offering to buy me a computer - my present computer is a PIII 500MHz I bought in 1999, so my new one has been 12 years in the making. I was still pleased with the "old dog" - it has served me well, but doing video was nearly impossible. My new machine will be able to control man's net mission to Mars. Below are some pics and specs. I worked hard to configure it, getting the most "bang for the buck."

Some brief highlights: 16GB RAM, Intel i7 core 2600K overclockable CPU, 2 TB hard drive, NVidia 570HD video card, Gigabit USB 3.0 MoBo, water cooling for CPU, 6 hard drive bays (4 hot swappable) 4 optical bays, 7 cooling fans, etc., etc.

There is a Youtube video to get a rough idea of the case, and some small pics I took tonight. Just got Windows 7 Ultimate loaded, and will be installing software all night tonight :)

Overview of case and basic view of computer:

Are you sure you don't regret not buying an Apple machine? Just kidding! Congratulations. It's very nice.

Lol... I was expecting this from you. Ahhh, memories.

It's very solid, Hal... and after what you've been through recently, I'm sure its a deserved departure.

The next podcast you do about Apple, I will call in. Lots to say. I've recited it a few times to friends and family, so I think I have rehearsed it to a good 4 minutes. Apple should be a guest on Coast to Coast AM. It's Luciferian for sure.

tonight, curtis and i are going to do a shortened version of the spec sheet at 7PM central time.  after we wrap up our blatherous meanderings, feel free to call in with your apple stuff.  i'm sure it will be relevant to what we're talking about since we're going to focus entirely on moble.  573-837-4948 or skype MVDRT.

Cool. Is this the same curtis who used to post here? No conflicts with my evening shows or most importantly, Coast to Coast AM. According to Noory, I'll be time traveling when I call in.

yup, curtis a.k.a. themudking.  i suspect you'll be seeing a bit more of him around here.

Hal, I tried using one of those beasts once.  The toaster oven app kept burning my snacks!   ::)

Really nice machine!   :)

Where can I get to your podcasts? Do you have an archive up somewhere?
I'm sure I've run past this information before and will regret asking it once you reply.

From the looks of it, probably God 1.0.

Sweet computer.  We need more threads like this and less "Art Bell Quits Coast" IMO

This picture was taken right after Michael posted that I would once again be upgrading my status to non-lurker:

Oh my, no! Not that Apple doesn't make a nice machine, but I hate companies and products that are so very proprietary!

Since Obama skuttled the Shuttle program, I was able to pick up NASA OS 2011 beta 3 for only $5 from Richard C. Hoaxland. Only problem is, whenever I turn on my new computer, all I can do is track satellites and spacecraft - though there is an "Easter Egg" in the OS where one can play "Space Invaders." :)

Actually, I took the easy way out and installed Windows 7 Ultimate.

Stranger things have happened, and Hal knows a lot about computers judging from his previous posts. So he might have been a purist and you might have been puking.

Any operating system that you need a degree in computer science to install a printer driver isn't the one for me.

Installing printers in Ubuntu is quite easy, actually. I think u could handle it.
