Did Jared Loughner Listen to C2C???

Hey, pursuant to a tip from one of you fine folks, I checked up whether or not US' Newest Hitmaker Jared, was actually a member of Above Top Secret.  I didn't bother reading his drek, but I took it on faith from those on ATS that Jared was obsessed with NASA.  Eventually, Jared got banned from even *THAT* wacky site.  Life must really suck when you're too mentally disturbed for ATS.

It wouldn't take a HUGE leap of faith to conclude that Jared probably also listened to Coast to Coast.  I wonder if Jared called when Hoaxland was a guest?

This whole incident is really sad, and instead of dehumanizing Jared Loughner by calling him an "animal," the way Noory did, it's sobering to wonder whether he once was One of Us, interested in the paranormal, UFOs and conspiracy theories.

I used to listen to C2C just to laugh at all the crazy people.  Then Art had a show in which a guest predicted that the Gulf Coast would be destroyed by a terrible storm.  When Hurricane Katrina occurred years later, I remembered that show and took the guests more seriously.

Nonetheless, it's evident that a lot of the guests and callers on Coast to Coast might be considered "mentally ill" by a professional.  Art had the class to handle them with discretion without enabling them.  I've concluded that George is not very bright or educated, and interacting with mentally ill people is WAY above his abilities.

Some years ago, librarians at the Library of Congress noticed that many of their patrons were visibly mentally ill.  Washington DC attracts psychotics from all over the country because they believe (often correctly) that DC is the city from which many evil conspiracies emanate.  The librarians sought help from social workers and psychologists as to how best to deal with the mentally ill therapeutically.

In the same vein, it would be a good thing if Coast to Coast hosts, and people who handle the related websites could reach out to troubled people.  At another C2C website, for example, two (now former) members have committed suicide, and another just has been committed.

In the meantime the ATS webmasters are really paranoid about the government, and this time they might have cause.

About 1.5% of worldwide deaths are from suicide. That means that 1 and 1/2 out of every 100 members of this site will likely die by suicide, depending on income, location, blah blah blah, but the point being, that you heard about those does not make it the forums fault.

I've been thinking the same thing. From the material he was obsessed with it's probably a pretty safe bet he had listened to C2C. I think sometimes Noory is irresponsible in allowing some of the blatant nut bags go on unchallenged as he does, particularly the ones that practice quack medicine, but in the end it is the fault of the individual and no one else. He has had some mind control guests that sounded blatantly nuts and the callers even more so.

I find it ironic that Glen Beck keeps getting blamed when it was much more likely the guy listened to Noory.

I'm not blaming the FORUM people!

The audience for paranormal/UFO/conspiracy theory fans are rather self-selecting.  We're intelligent, we think outside of the box, and we're eccentric.  I think that there's more chance of UFO fans being "mentally ill" than Giants fans, to give an example, although the two categories will overlap from time to time.  Remember, there's an enormous number of creative, entrepreneurial and brilliant people who have struggled with inner demons.  I'm not romanticizing mental illness by any means, but neither am I demonizing it.

I wouldn't blame Glenn Beck for *this* incident.

Noory should check his head.  I'm sure that he's bombarded with nutjobs 24/7, but he knew about the nature of this assignment beforehand.  You can't feature Alex Jones (who, like a broken clock, is right about something twice a day), and lesser mortals who preach even more inflammatory bile against the government and then turn around and call Loughner an "animal" and a "wacko."  Way to treat your listeners, dude.

I worry more about the mind control guests. Some of them have sounded outright crazy and some of the callers they attract are either the ultimate phone trolls or truly deranged. Some of them sound really frantic as well, it's sad to listen to them and even sadder to hear their delusions reinforced.
