I'm looking forward to tonight's show and how JBW controls the format.
This may be the time where he shines and shows his stuff. As I've said before...I like him overall.

Yep, you may be right!  NO SCREENED CALLS!!!!  I LOVE IT!!!!      OMG, Noory is pooping his pants!  Wells is proving that he's not a big baby and doesn't need to listen to such crap as:  "George, I am so honored to speak with you."  Ugh

Morgus

someone hear should try to call Wells tonight and see if a screener answers - i bet they will.
noory early on said he tried 'unscreened' calls but he admitted later all that meant to him was the screeners still took the calls but didn't tell him the caller's name or location.
art bell's unscreened calls were with no screeners at all, art just answered the phone and put the caller on live - no middleman.

Wells best have his little time-delay device set up.
Didn't he miss the cough button and burped on air once?   Maybe his reflexes aren't that quick.   It will be interesting what makes it to air tonight.

I remember Art's saying "Do The Wild Thing at...." usually to cut out last names and George Carlin's 7...

I just may break my vow and listen tonite. Is anyone planning on calling in?  ;D

CoastSHAT

I would love to see Ian punfuck take real open lines, he would have another one of those drunk tourette seizures.

My heart sinks when I see a guest or topic on the schedule that interests me and I see that JBW is hosting :(

Morgus

As expected, Wells term 'unscreened lines' isn't the same meaning to Art Bell.
Wells obviously has a screener taking the calls tonight and recording their name/location while putting them on hold.
Because Wells has announced the name and location of the next caller that is currently on hold before he has talked to them...

SnapT

The unscreening may not be pure, but so far this seems like the closest we've gotten to Art Bell open lines since Bell himself.

I think Wells is now actively attempting to unseat "ship captain" Noory.  He's even jabbing Noory's rude dumping of callers.  He's really letting these callers breathe.

Morgus

Wells just referenced longtime caller JC and reached out directly to him on the air to call in.

SnapT

Wells just said there ARE coincidences!

Another slap in the face to the ship captain!

ziznak

I'm kinda surprised with Wells and his call taking abilities.  I noticed no angry vibes when people didn't say something right away or were confused about whether or not they were on the air.  He seemed to handle things pretty well.  I only half listened to the last hour or so but normally I perk up when I hear the nooron being a nooron.  It's my sixth sense and it didn't go off at all while I ignored what little of the show I had playing.

Scully

Am I the only one who noticed how many callers profusely flattered Wells?   ???

Juan

I think the praise has become standard now.  I hear that on a lot of shows.  People are nervous when they call in and say things like that as a way of starting.

I noticed this as well... seems they were screening only for callers with JBW praise.

I noticed it, too.  One of them was slobbering over both Wells and Nooron.  First half hour was all I could take with Wells.

and that was on a night where Wells claimed he had 4 hours of UNSCREENED open lines...  8)

Meggini

Hmmm... I was excited about real open lines, but I'm not sure if it's worth downloading.  :-\

This is Wells' last shot for me.  I'm going to try to listen in as much as I can over the next three days.  That's enough of a chunk and enough variety (including what should be a very revealing "open" lines) for me to finally make a long over due decision as to whether I'll ever bother again or not.  (Naturally, that decision has long ago been made for Noory).  I'm not expecting any sudden miracles, but at least I won't continue to have a nagging sense of needing to give him a chance.

Speaking of giving a chance... Clyde Lewis sucks (and he is, sadly, a whole lot like Wells).  I really did try and I had quite a lot of hope.  His paranormal topics are much more in line with what I'm looking for in a late night show (mystery calls from the dead, for instance).   Also, some of his callers seem to be of a higher quality than Coast (where are these people when you need them?).  Unfortunately, he seems to rush through his callers (or alternately let's them drone on when they don't warrant it) and never has any special insights nor enough follow-through.  The nail in the coffin was a screed he has just recently posted about the elections, complete with an Obama-O with devil horns.  Whatever.  He loses.

In the end, I feel like I'm stuck with the Paracast (which, is fine with me, but not enough).  One of the hosts is beyond hokey, but has grown on me, and the show is quite listenable.

I need something else, though, damn it!

OMG... I have missed you. Welcome back... your wit has been missed.

Clyde lost me on the first podcast I listened to from early January 2012. The guest was some foaming at the mouth ancient minister who expressed his loathing for Homosexyoualls everywhere and some really fanatically crazy ideas. Clyde responded by saying what a GREAT MAN the minister is. Sorry, I do not support loony tunes hosts who automatically (like Romney?) insult a portion of their listening audience and pound on the Bible so hard it starts to cry out.

But with Clyde's evident political and socially conservative views, he seems a match for Clear Channel, one of Mr. Romney's investments.

You tell em', Cowboy. Clyde is a damn hateful bigot. It's a wonder he doesn't suggest that gay men and women sit at the back of the bus. Where's that Anita Bryant when you don't need her? And if there HAD to be a damn neo-con Mormon as a Presidential candidate, why couldn't Donny Osmond have run? Donny and I do have opposing political views, though...I'm a little bit country, he's a little bit rock and roll, and Romney is a little corporate vulture turd.

Discuss, gentlemen.

Anita Bryant?  Isn't she trying for the Veep position in Rick Santorum's 2016 run?  Or is she just baking pies these days?  :P

Nah, you want them sitting at the front, where you can keep an eye on 'em...

... I'm JOKING.

Rick "Bigot" Sanatorium running in 2016, my ass. If he didn't get the message last time, than he's a bigger narrow-minded idiot than I gave him credit for. Anita Bryant squeezed ALL the Florida oranges out of sheer frustration that her "Christian" anti-gay campaign went down the ole' crapper. She IS baking pies...with crow filling. Gotta love those bible belt Christians...the salt of the earth, true children of the corn.

Many closeted gay, hypocritical Republican senators and Congressmen want to keep an eye on em', and I'm NOT joking, baby. :-) And who could blame them?

Now THERE'S a political match made in hell for ya. Listen, b_dubb, I don't begrudge you. A  cleared check is a cleared check, and a feller has to make a livin' somehow. Just do me a favor and pass on some Michelle Bachmann quotes to Anita for her to use in her campaign speech. That Michelle...what an Iowa peach!! And that husband of hers, Marcus! Doing such noble work such as helping the "barbarian gays" pray it all away!

For example, Anita Bryant could use this Bachmann winner quote:

"Carbon dioxide is portrayed as harmful. But there isn't even one study that can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas." -Rep. Michelle Bachmann, April, 2009

God, what intelllect! John B. Wells could interview Sanatorium and Bryant...the brain power of those two would blow the radio station's transformers.

It's a shame that Wells and his guest didn't spend more time on the prison industrial complex. We have the world's biggest prison population, with China in second place. We have more incarcerated citizens, per capita, than anywhere else in the world. Yet, our legislators pass more laws to incarcerate/harass more people, and there are no signs that this trend will reverse itself.

Yeah I was hoping for far more prison talk too. There have been some good shows in the past on that topic.
Also the callers are good because you get people with law enforcement stories.

I wasn't as interested in the personal philosophy journey.

I would have listened to the growing up among cannibals in Indonesia. The short stories he told were good.
