Taking prisoners

Started by Richard Groyper, August 31, 2016, 10:37:22 AM

I'm not proud of treating the enemy like dogs. Seeing grown men piss themselves and worse after they've been captured. A shotgun in the face gives haji a real bad case of the shakes. I feel no empathy. I feel nothing. They aren't human. These motherfuckers want to die for their God? I was more than happy to oblige.

One time (October '06 Mosul, Iraq Ramadan) a dumb shit decided to not stop a road block. He had his family with him. Just his children. FYI, a .50 caliber does a lot of damage, so of course, his vehicle was cut to pieces. He survived. His kids were literally blown into individual parts. You could put them back together like legos. Jesus dead bodies stink. Especially burned corpses that have their internal organs exposed. I will never forget that smell.

Thanks for reminding me, I've been meaning to ask... what does depleted uranium ammunition smell like? Asking for a friend.

Hang in there, fucker.  It doesn't get easier.  The memories.  Somewhere down the road, though.  It won't be as raw.  Certain dates, as they approach, fill me with growing agitation.  Smells.  The smell of diesel or gasoline can put me on 'the road' again, and for a long moment, I am not even HERE anymore, I'm back THEN.  A BBQ can have me gagging.  Carnitas, used to be my favorite.  Now.....
And then, sometimes it all just comes up.   For no particular reason, I guess.

The war will never be over. I've learned to accept that. I appreciate your sentiments, paladin.

Sadly, I suspect you guys are in it for the duration.  My Dad was a WWII veteran.   He was in his late 40's when I was born.
I didn't exactly rush into Fatherhood either, so my Daughter was born, Dad was an old, old man.   I remember one time picking
my little girl up from Pre-School and then taking over to visit my folks.  She pulled out a white piece of paper with a red circle on
it and she was like "Grandpa!  Grandpa!  Look. We learned about Japan today.  Their flag is the Rising Sun"

My Dad's face turned into the most fierce, hate filled, war face you'd ever want to see and he said "Yes honey.  I know.,  I've seen it *before*"
That was probably around 2002 or so.  Sixty years on from 1942 when his war started.

Hang in there guys...................
