Can you get disability for a sprained ankle K_Dubb?

I don't know how it works but if she put on a good show crawling around the social security office, maybe?
#6006
What are the chances the leg story is the echo of an actual disability claim?

That poem, written decades later by a possible marrano lineage, communist, and, -leftists might have trouble with this now- Zionist, has nothing to do with what the ideas of our Founding Fathers had or our actual Foundational documents, correspondence, or law. And, in some ways, are a detriment to the country considering that many consider it some kind of actual ethos or law of this land- despite being written many, many years later by a person of suspect motives. (This is not to denigrate her poetic prowess or fame.) Imagine how much easier: "There once was a man from Bombay, who USA went to stay...." "There once was a Mexican name Felipe, who swam across in his serape..." "Remember than old lady from Poland, who came across with no man...." it is endlessly better than Ms.Lazarus's poem and is more "inclusive."

Haha I knew that would set you off.  It is, bar none, the greatest American sonnet and that it is still a part of the political debate fills me with joy.  It's a powerful evocation of the national myth.

Since she neglected to address quotas and qualifications in the poem, I don't see how you can base current immigration policy on it -- are we examining people to make sure they are truly tired or appropriately huddled, or that they are yearning to breathe free instead of the same smelly third-world air they've been breathing all along?  That's how you would base policy on it

Though I am largely sympathetic, it makes me furious when people try to smear it as a work of art because of how it is being used by their opponents.  It's the same as tearing down a statue, and makes us look like rank philistines.

So was bard-like! Simply the term "Quatrain" simply gives me a headache as I immediately recall C2C guests with regard to Nostradamus claims and explanations over the decades. I say go with Limericks rhyming schemes and such. Easy to sing, easy to rhyme, easy to add too, etc. Decades of rugby, fraternities, Irish drunks, school-boys, sailors, etc can't be wrong....

Easier, sure, but that ignores the sonnet's potential as a rhetorical device.  I needn't remind you of The New Colossus and how often it is (mis)quoted -- the meter is really give Me your Tired, your Poor... and the turning point, or volta, which sets up the conclusion is actually "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" which I've always loved -- the "Keep" sets up the "give" in the next line, which makes it a far deeper argument than the usual excerpt would admit.  Good luck getting that in a limerick.

Can you make this into a footnote and send it to Jason?  Asking for Erinn.

Haha the best ones have so many allusions there's more text in the footnotes than in the poem.  He might like reading all of those.

For those not Bard-like, what is the appropriate rhyme scheme for this. Unless a Limerick, AABBA,  I find my English lacking, likely to do with the fun/ribald things that can be done with AABBA and easy to remember, sing, chant, etc.

Well this one is called Shakespearean, three quatrains of iambic pentameter in ABAB and a couplet and is probably the most familiar, but there are lots of ones that can still be called sonnets.  And even extra lines -- the last one I wrote had an extra quatrain to make a heroic sonnet.

Abraham wouldn't fit the meter so I went with his birth name, but you could say the allusion wasn't unconscious.

Brig poem!

It is not true, you can't bargain with God --
Like any good old Jew He'll make a deal.
Amuse Him -- for a while He'll spare the rod.
But bore Him, and He'll bring it down for real.
It's for your sakes, with coffee, shrine, and troll
That I sit down each morning with my smokes
To see who cried, who whined, who bared their soul
As fodder for you fucks to make your jokes.
It's for our very lives on here I plead,
Like Abram for the cities of the plain
Before their hothouse flowers gone to seed
Bent plumy heads beneath the fiery rain,
For I account to Him whose praise I sing:
Please, somebody, do something interesting!

To be fair, I was concerned that you were going to point out how few grapes grow in Canada. Instead, you chose a different tactic, and one that is hard to defend (why raisins when we have other bounties of fruits.)

I suppose the only sensible answer is that those bounties belong in a more expressive medium- the pie. Due to the diminutive size, a tart is, by definition, more limited requiring alternative fillings. Where a pie cannot be filled with a rich, sweetened filling without  being overpowering, the humble tart lends itself to such grand and daring experimentation as our forefathers (and, more likely, foremothers) saw fit to use this wonderful filling of choice.

Gawd you are such a Canadian!  Your defense begins with an apology and ends in explanation.  Can these really be the sons of Wolfe and Montcalm?

Just kidding; I'm glad we have such good neighbors, and I would never turn down a butter tart.

I am really enjoying the conversation happening in this thread!  Believe me, I HATE to interrupt it with these Erinn YouTube updates, but I felt it was important to share that I actually missed this Erinn LIVE.

Does that mean anything important?

I'd say it means you want someone to start a General Mudslinging of KDubb and Shreddie thread, dear.  I'd do it myself but the sheer hubris of such an act is staggering, even to one so given to grandiosity.

There isn't the slightest reason for thinking those three are one and the same person but Richie is constantly telling people that they are somebody else. I lost count of the number of times he 'brilliantly' exposed another alias as Rosegirl or Yorkie. He's done so many bong hits by now it's a wonder the dumb bastard can even get his trousers on the right way round, let alone anything else.

Didn't TheONE take an unusual interest in American politics after a while like Azz or am I misremembering?

Actually, I'm not sure I want to know; I kind of liked talking to a real Mongolian yak herder while he sipped his butter tea in a yurt.

Metron, Azz are both TheONE.

That is a rather bravura handling of multiple distinct personae if that's the case.  They all end up in the same place eventually but, to begin with, they are unique and fun.  I wonder if he whiteboards them.  It may be old hat to you guys but I am new to forumming and I am impressed.

One of the implications of mask theory is that everyone has multiple personae that vary with circumstances and that no persona can be said to be any more real than any other, so the online ones we adopt are really us.  So, no, you're not a troll; you're just a dick.

Not you, Doc; just speaking generally.

I apologize, sir. I had mistaken you for a man of taste and breeding. Instead I discover a man lacking taste and willing to accept second rate fare rather than searching out superior tarts.

Fresh churned butter... And precious raisins. Is it the raisins that you object to as being too cultured- too "exotic" for your simple tastes that you would rather purchase sliced almonds (likely rancid from their time on the shelves) and include them in your baking? Quite frankly, if you wish to indulge in almonds it should be in the form Marzipan or German Stollen.

Almond tarts.  ::)

That I should even lower myself to debate our national tart and compare it with an almond tart is a travesty, and only reinforces the stereotype of Americans being unsophisticated and lacking taste. What do I expect from a man birthed in a country that gave us McDonalds?

Oh you are a raisin man, eh?  Well I will tell you that the flimsy fig-leaf of a few fossilized foreign fruits will not camouflage the fact that your national tart is a tart bereft of all the natural bounty that is usually summoned by the word.  The filling is fraudulent.  In a land rich with strange and wonderful berries (saskatoons, gooseberries, buffalo berries, forsooth!) it is strange that one of these did not make it in, which I can only attribute to the slavish aping of your English cousins whose puerile and unseemly tastes run to the sickly sweet, sticky, gooey, and naughty and who have the teeth to prove it.

Almond tarts? Who the hell cares? Challenge the supremacy of Canadian butter tarts, and it's on!

Oh we are going to have a war!  A butter tart is what happens when you have absolutely nothing in the pantry to make a proper tart on.  It is pecan pie without the pecans, frangipane without the almonds, and treacle tart without the treacle.  Only the rigors of a vast, unsupplied frontier could have produced such a paean to deprivation and want, and convinced people it was good.

In fairness, I will note that the only pastries that are more uninspired are Norwegian sandbakkels, which are like tarts without any filling at all:

No, folks, nothing is missing.  I blush with shame every time I make them -- they are a national disgrace.

We get a lot because my cousin is a fisherman in Bristol Bay.  Salmon is tricky because you don't want to recook it and reheating always smells a little dicey.

Flake it, mix with cubes of cream cheese (I like about 2:1 salmon to cheese) and warm in a frying pan in a tablespoon of butter until the cheese is soft.  Pour a capful of Wight's Liquid Smoke over.  Raise the burner to med-high and crack 3 or 4 eggs in the pan and scramble the whole thing, barely stirring until the strands of egg white are just set and the yolks are still runny.  Sprinkle with dill, salt, and pepper.

It sounds ghetto with the fake smoke but it cuts the day-old fish smell and heating leaves a pretty subtle smoky aroma.  If you can't do runny eggs, I'd suggest using the fish-and-cheese mixture as filling in an omelette instead.
