I didn't particularly notice any edginess from Ian Friday night, but I did pick up on a tweet exchange he had with some girl who referenced his "emeritus" status on Coast.  She then corrected herself and said she hoped he wasn't actually retired, only on sabbatical.

He replied that "emeritus" was more accurate and said he had actually resigned from Coast but that they'd asked him to stick around to do the once-a-month gig.

Wow.  Like us, he probably knows Coast is Toast.  He's just too professional/polite to say so.

I can just picture Ian puffing out his flabby chest when someone refers to him as 'emeritus'.  Jeez, he's probably having his business cards redone right now.

But after 8 years of George Noory, Ian just now decides the show sucks?  Fairly recently he was arguing with a caller, insisting the show hadn't changed a bit from when Art was doing it.  So are we saying Ian lied about the show being unchanged under the direction of George Noory, and lying now about tininitus being the reason he left?

The third episode of this seasons Ancient Aliens was on last night.  They're long past the point of running out of ideas for the show.  It's been migrated over to History Channel 2, I guess it can't even compete with hillbilly handfishing or guys with beer guts opening storage lockers any more.

Last nights episode was 'The Greys'.  They took all the previously seen footage of cave painted figures with big heads, eastern tales of flying snakes, tossed in a few segments on abductions, and weaved it into a show.  Thankfully the Mayans were covered in the first 2 episodes, that has sure gotten old.

But the real indicator the show has about reached the end is that George came on 3 or 4 times (instead of the usual once or twice) to tell us sumpthin' very 'schtrange' is goin' on out there.  LMH was on waving her arms around, pretty sure I've seen that outfit before, it must be one of her favorites, but Whitley Strieber somehow didn't make the cut.  Imagine not being credible enough for a show featuring George Noary.

... I truly believe that Noory "could" have done a great job as he did when filling in for Art. He was bowled over by the losers in Premier's accounting dept and that ruined the show...

I truly believe George has an army of people enabling him and standing by ready to make excuses for him.  What I don't quite get is why.

I'm thinking it isn't the green eyeshade types that cause George to daydream instead of listening to the guests, it's not the bean counters forcing George to show up unprepared or make stupid comments.  The accounting department isn't writing up his lame, always the same, boring cue cards to read, or screening his calls so only the worst callers get through.  The number crunchers aren't the ones finding and forwarding stories of tortured kids and animals George delights in reading during the 'news' segment, or getting only bottom of the barrel guests .  No, George does all this all on his own, with an assist from his bloated staff.  His uncanny knack for this and the rest of it, like knowing just when to interrupt to completly ruin a segment, is all George Noory.

Given the awfulness of the show, the phony 'psychics' and medical advice, the dumb economic and political commentary, to me it seems like no one at PremRat even listens to the show, cares, or provides any guidance at all.  The show in it's current form IS George Noory.

... IMO it's about his dissatisfaction with C2C and Premiere...

Art knows by now George sucks, that he's dumb and lazy, isn't interested, isn't prepared, that the 'nice guy' routine is just schtick, that George is actually a jerk, on and on.

Art either thought it would be a good idea to put an idiot with zero interviewing skills into his chair in case he wanted to return yet again, or he feels duped by shabby George who claimed then and claims now to be interested, a hard worker, a life long investigator, truth seeker, etc, when he isn't any of those things, or Art really had no say in his replacement and watched along with the rest of us in horror as George Noory dismantled the show with distain.

Now there's a question for Art Bell.  It may have taken him awhile to realize how bad it was - I don't think Art listened to the show when he took a day or two off and had a fill in.  He even had Geroge Noory introduce him at his Radio Hall of Fame induction, so he must not have completely loathed him at that point.

The new episodes tonight on the history channel were about the Mayans.
But Noory didn't appear. Some past c2c guests were some of the talking heads however.
Including the main guy with the strange exploding hair - he still needs a serious haircut...

Au Contraire, you may have stepped away from your TV at just the right time, or perhaps your Nooron indicator activated to save you, but George did make an appearance.

It was a bit unusual, there were two episodes to kick off the new season - episode 1 'The Mayan Conspiracy' on the History Channel, then episode 2 'The Doomsday Prophecies' immediately following on History Two (formerly History International).  They were both mostly about the Mayans, the Calendar, and 2012.  George had one appearance in each.

In the first one, they were talking about some pretty grisly examples of self mutilations and human sacrifice and how that related to their religious life, when George appeared (he's a real go to guy for the sick stuff), and said "It's very possible that this civilization, as cultured as they seem to have been, were also pretty barbric.  And this could have been their way to offer the gods something".

Wow George.  So very insightful.   Thanks so much.  'It's very possible... they were barbaric'?  What clued you in?  'This could have been their way to offer the gods something'?  Coud have been?  Again, such insight.  George has been yakking about the Mayans and 2012 for years.  Claims to have been interested in all this stuff from childhood, claims to be an expert, an investigator.  He's been a (so-called) contributor on just about every single episode of Ancient Aliens.  And that's all he had to offer for a one hour show on the topic?  Saying only the most obvious, hedging with weasel words like 'very possible' and 'could have been'.  Seriously?

His commentary in the second episode was more of the same, more talking without saying anything.  At least he makes the rest of them seem worthwhile by comparison.  GN Sucks.

Interview with George Noory.mov

Is this one of George's buddies from St Louis?  Finally someone he's worked with in the past publicly acknowleging his existence?

I did like the introdution.  Since there is really nothing positive anyone can say about George Noory, he just introduces him as 'the world famous George Noory'.

But this guy is as boring as George himself and quickly gets to the phony platitudes, even calling George the 'Johnny Carson of the radio'.  But best of all - both times he referred to George's book he called it 'Journey Into the Light'.   Too bad he didn't constantly interrupt with mispronounced pointless comments.

What are your favorite Art sayings?

Validating a guest he would respond with, "Oh....oh...."

"Red eyes always bother me"

"I do not like dark closets"

others? ??? what do you recall? ???

That drawn out 'ohhhhhhh?', when a guest would say something astonishing.  The more astonishing and unexpected, the longer he would draw it out.

'Go on' if a guest hesitated, but was doing fine.

'Caller, do you have a question?'

Too bad George Noory never discovered these interviewing tools.

I'm definitely not going into the student load debate here (too many conflicting thoughts about that), but I did want to point out one comment Snoory made during that show (which was a shitty Coast topic to begin with)...

He invited "parents or grandparents" dealing with student loan debt to call in.  Not anyone who is, I don't know, a student or was a student dealing with the debt?  This actually annoyed me a great deal.  I know many many recent graduates and grad students and not a single one of their parents or grandparents has a damn thing to do with any of their student debt...

I get the feeling George has never done much of anything on his own.  Same thing with his own kids from what he says about them.  It probably doesn't occur to him that most others do.

Listening to that, I imagined his mother telling him for years now that he should sing on his show, and pictured Lisa fianlly throwing up her hands and telling him to go ahead.

Since it was obviously pre-recorded, I wonder how many takes he did.  Knowing lazy George, probably just one.  But imagine sitting at a desk in the office on the day George Noory decided he needs to sing that over and over to get it just right.

I can't think of one thing I like about George Noory, as a host or as a person.  His personal stories seem either completely made up, or grossly embellished.  Same with the stories told of Tommy's adventures.

After all this time, I see no reason to give either of them the benefit of the doubt on anything.  I see no reason not to criticize George for his egomania and narcissism, or to scoff at made up personal stories.  We've all had more than enough of these jerk-offs who decided to ruin a great radio show.

This sheds new light on the incident in Mexico.

Maybe he was really being kidnapped, until one of them recognized him as the guy singing at the wedding.. the confusion, the burst of chatter over the radio, the guy showing up making sure he got away..

We are in for a treat at the end of Open Lines, for George announced that he will then debut his voice...yet another aspect of his many expertise and talents.  However, if he does as he has previously proposed to us before ... to announce his candidacy for the presidency this year, he is thinking that he is going to get  one up on at least one of the opponents in the vocal competition.

Jennifer (hiding her head under the table, trying to stop laughing)

Randy:  'Yo yo dawg... c'mon man, how do yuh think you did...it just isn't your thing man...'

... Certain persons have no feelings of empathy for others at all, and don't understand (and usually don't care) how their actions might affect or harm others. They don't have appropriate feelings for certain events and interactions, but they learn to recognize the circumstances and the emotions, and over time also learn how to act like they have the same emotions as everyone else. This is the pathological narcissist, suffering the "narcissistic personality disorder", which with variations is seen in genocidal egomaniacs, serial sex killers or passive-aggressive egocentric radio program hosts...

This is what George does regarding animals.  He has learned that most other people love animals and even have pets.  He heard Art Bell talk about his cats, and heard listeners call in to ask about them.  So George invents Casey the Dog.  He's talks about the 'time he gave some old lady whose dog died a puppy'.

But not really understanding the connection with animals, and certainly not liking or having empathy for them himself, George doesn't get how revealing his fascination with horrific news items involving animals is to the rest of us.

GN has said that he is a "conductor" in regards to his hosting style.  Well, he has no timing, harmony or passion!  He is a horrible "conductor".

There is an interview on youtube from some local guy in St. Louis with GN.  This guy is a total kiss ass and GN is just as boring on camera if not more so because he looks like he's about to fall asleep.  In this interview he gives a reason as to why the SYFY channel cancelled his show after about 6 episodes.  He claimed they wanted to do a show like Howard Stern's with cameras in the studio.  I doubt that is the reason for the cancellation, but GN did say one true thing, "that isn't good television".  You got that right.

I'm really tired of GN starting almost all of his interviews with "what's new with you?"  Then the rest of the so called interview is "really?!, wow!, that's fascinating!, one of my favorite movies..., how many people do this?!, how many people like this?!"  The stupidity goes on and on.  He loves those "how many people (fill in the blank)" questions.

I'm almost ashamed to admit that I'm still a streamlink user, but I won't be renewing.

There's a new Ancient Aliens episode on tonight.  I'm sure George will be on, contributing nothing.

So get ready for that.

I was livid when Snoory did this!  George, you idiot--can't you listen to what your guests are saying instead of leaping ahead to some list of questions you want to race through?

Try it.  Just once.  For the sake of all mankind.  Please.

George has to know he does this, he must get tons of email from people complaining about specific examples.

It just isn't that hard to spot a comment of interest and follow up, or to realize the guest is part way through something interesting and simply let them continue.  Does he do this intentionally?  Could he really just not be listening the whole show?  If so, then what on earth is he doing during the show?  Does he really just not give a flip?

But if anyone questions it or suggests improvement, then they're just 'haters'.

I wonder if George has ever had a conversation of substance on any topic other than George Noory.  Can a person really get through life seemingly sucessfully on the outside only talking about themselves the whole time?  How lonely that must be.

... Joe Bullard talked a lot about the coral castle phenomenon, and during the last hour he and a caller were talking about a book written by Ed Leedskalnin, the guy who built the castle, and how a symbol on the cover of the book may have been a clue as to what mystical energy was employed, and I was fascinated by this discussion, and I wanted to hear more, and George interupts them both with...

This is precisely why I can't even listen to George Noory on the radio.  Regardless of guest or topic, anything interesting and he will turn the conversation back towards stupid.  I could suffer through the rest of his faults, but can't deal with this.

Even Ian can be good if he shuts up long enough for the guest to talk a little bit without being interrupted, argued with, topped, or re-stated.

probably was an old fashioned arranged marriage by his parents when Noory was very young?  8)

But what about the second time?

George once said sumpthin' about after his second (or have there been 3?) divorce, that he 'wanted tuh date uh lotta women'.  No word on how that worked out for him though.
#19192
George has claimed to have had at least one other date.  An elaborate story about why she was in his bedroom before they even went out - something in the main bathroom wasn't working (Tommy stuffed up the toilet again?) so she had to use the one off the master bedroom.  As she was passing through the bedroom she found the dissection kit George kept from high school biology class spread out on his bed.  George had earlier used that to remove a splinter.  She screamed, ran down the stairs, past George, and out the door (a true gentleman, George had remained downstairs).

George's personal stories never quite ring true, yet manage to make George seem awful creepy.  For this one to be true, for the lady to have been there before they had gone out, she'd have had to be the one driving and picking up George.

I for one would like to hear more of his dating experiences.

I have been listening to Coast to Coast off and on since 98-99. I have been mostly 'off' it as it were with it.

I remember Barbara Simpson during 2003 thereabouts. I can't remember if I liked her or not. All I know is she completely disappeared. She showed up rarely to guest host.

And on her last appearance, at the end of the show she said something cryptic something like: Remember folks, be careful what you wish for. You might just get it.

Does anyone remember that? Or did I imagine it? Hmmm...

              ~Ellipsis

She has a political talk show in San Francisco Sat and Sun afternoons 4-7 on KSFO.  She always uses that as her sign-off.

Anyone else think that Noory's tale of dumping a gorgeous woman in the middle of a dinner date due to her telling him that she hated animals might be actually due to the woman telling him that because she knew that would cut the date short?
The real reason being she wanted out after seeing and talking to Noory in person...  8)

Also noted that Noory used the term "hate" again in that the woman hated animals, so he put her in his "hater" category like he puts us in.  :P

Assume for a moment George is actually on a date - as soon as he found out she hated animals, wouldn't he then start telling her some of the sick and tragic animal stories he's culled for the news segment over the years?

I think he's nervous around Marla, his dating expert guest.

I wonder if John Noorly gets a discount on his dates by giving her a couple segments on his informercial

I could never understand how Ian could personally and publicly separate his personal beliefs and
effectively do a show such as Coast to Coast...

Listening to him, I got the impression he more into 'religion' as an intellectual pursuit than as a believer.  And another paycheck doesn't hurt.  He sure seemed to spend a lot of time trying to separate himself from people that actually are believers, like he was embarrased or something.

As far as getting to talk a lot and still control the conversation, 'preacher' fits in well with 'radio show host'.
