Now there is an interesting question.

"What was the first computer you ever worked on?"

Good old DEC PDP-11 for me.

Commodore 64, if I don't count the Sinclaire 2000, lol.

Ah, those were the days, when I could still beat the chess program.

Big time. But it was 'acceptable' because cost get pushed back on consumers and merchants and the costs to the company to implement the better security, get people/merchants to use it and the costs involved with people to sort it out, teach people, etc, the equipment/standard, plus the difference between a 'push' or 'pull' system, etc. But really they figure "what consumers and our merchant don't know, why bother. We will just charge some extra fees, have lower interest-rates, or just customer service to cover whatever costs and personally indemnify the account holder when fraud happens."
No wonder I'm a socialist

We had a music sequencer set up on it. It was pretty much state of the art till Apple started getting good at it.

Well I don't think it was mandated by the government but organizations like SWIFT etc and the banks themselves. The main thing is you need a centralized system and a standard technology (there were competing "chips" etc and different theories of best design. Which can start it all over again because once similar or centralized those system can get hacked or intercepted (like SIM cards) etc. So who knows. A big mistake, I think though, or the more socialist side is the failure (or near failure) of the Postal System- they COULD'VE jump ahead in technology and started offering banking service and money xfer service (like many European country ones did) especially to smaller, poorer, inner-city, rural etc whose main income is government pensions or welfare. Then again it might make it easier to take it back in times of crisis (Cyprus, Greece, etc!)

Did you have Captain Crunch's Fone Freak proggy?

Play the tones, record them on the good ole Maxwell tape in the Boom Box.  Pop the tape
into Walkman.  Cruise down the block to the pay phone, play the tape and give your
sweet heart a buzz long distance.    *I* of course did not do such a thing.

That is awesome. Have you heard anything of Capt Crunch recently? Last I heard him (on Alex Jones) sometime ago he had a real bad back and was trying to get money to go to Thailand (I think) for surgery (cheaper over there)

WOTR

I was just reading about the guest needing a "lift van" for the wheelchair and remembered seeing the coolest truck in town a short time ago.  This raised truck pulls up and the topper lifts from the front to the back hydraulically and then an arm with a wheelchair attached swings out and drops the chair.  Kind of looked like this truck- but cooler.

I missed that one. Probably just as well. I likely would've tried it out and gotten caught.
