What is so great about DAC is that he is a very good songwriter and singer but his persona is even more awesome/funny. He is such a self-aggrandizing, "bling" act it is hilarious. Even to the point of being satire in many songs and circumstances (though many fans don't recognize it as such.) He was like black rappers before rap was born with his bling, ladies, stories/legends of crime and sexual prowess, etc. But, unlike most rappers, actually a very good songwriter. And willing to mimic/feud with others in the industry and even do cross-over albums like with Pantera. DAC is awesome and I always go see him when he is in town.

Yep DAC is in some respects very underrated as an act and certainly as a writer. You are lucky to be able to go to cool concerts like that.

One of my big regrets was missing Johnny Paycheck when he was in town, and missed for stupid, lazy reasons. He died soon after. Another guy who the press/agents billed for his history and 'popular' song but was a great singer and songwriter. Damn, still regret it.

And a Christian tune with the Jordanaires foreshadowing their later work with Elvis.

I don't think I've dropped any Hank Snow here yet but he was a great, prolific singer/songwriter who wrote great songs like this:

AND...he was the guy who discovered Elvis. Somehow Col. Tom Parker got involved and quickly convinced Elvis to sever ties with Hank. Hank never forgave Parker. It's too bad really because, if you listen to Elvis' Sun recordings more than half the tracks are the kind of country/rockabilly songs Hank was doing. In other words, real shit that Hank would've been encouraging Elvis to do. Parker just kept convincing him to sellout to Hollywood. No wonder the guy had to keep himself anesthetized in haze of drugs and overeating. He let someone talk him into selling his soul and producing mediocre shit for the rest of his life when he was obviously wildly talented and could've done SO much more.  :'(

Why is it so damn hard to find early Johnny Paycheck at a reasonable price?!

Is the system suppressing early Johnny for some reason?  ???

Now, there's a conspiracy theory for you!  ;)
