Filled with laughter and American pride!  :D

Best line: Q: What did the astronauts say when they got back from the moon? A: It's good to be back in America...and those motherfuckers had been to the moon!  ;D

It reminds me of a dude from a few years ago who had a string of country hits all based on military pride during Iraq. I think they made fun of it on SNL.

Could be. I tend to tune that kinda shit out but at the time it was all over TV and was hard to get away from.

I believe Mr. Greenwood actually started the first gulf war so he could sing this

Ew! That one always bugged me. I seem to remember him singing it in the Reagan era too. He got a lot of mileage out of it.  ;)

That was my progression too. Never liked it as a kid. Thought it was hokey. I guess somethings are only made for adults though. I don't live on a big diet of it but I do have a much greater appreciation for it now. I'm also not as crazy about a lot of the newer stuff.

Same here.
Man, this thread brings back some great memories.

No Hank Jr love?

Too close to hillbilly rock?

Now they sound tired but they don't sound Haggard,
They've got money but they don't have Cash.
They got Junior but they don't have Hank.
I think, I think, I think, the rest is,
A long time gone,

Kidding.  I still like Hank Jr. I still like Kid Rock.

I just had to check this thread out, and there it was, the GREATEST country song of all time. David Allen Coe. Right on, Catsmile!
I saw him right after he got out of prison. He was the opening act for somebody I don't remember, but I remember him, vividly. That was at the Warehouse in New Orleans, many moons ago.

Yeah but, "Beer for my Horses" is a great song. I blame Willie.

There was this great torrent called, "Top 500 Hits (Countrychina)".
If I had to pick just one -

Not even in my top 500 but love the subject -

"A drug reference in one of the songs got, shall we say, a disproportionate amount of attention.

"That's my fault," he says. "I made the mistake of thinking that ... you could put LSD in a song without people thinking that that's weird. I fail to see how anything can still be weird in 2016. You know what I mean? But, whatever."

LOL. No shit!
