Sure, you've heard of Smoky the Bear before but have you heard Smoky the Bar?  ;)

This might be a double-post from a few pages ago.  In any case it is the first country song I recall hearing on good old 61-Country (610AM in KC, I think it is sports-talk now).  My dad's old clock/radio/alarm only got AM, I couldn't have been older than 6, and I would have loved this video back then too:

THEY say it's country, Not Sure...

Obviously there is no real answer to this question. But the sheer career and variety of Ray Price, RIP (getting busted for weed in, what, his 80s?) and solid quality and voice. I wish we had music where people could sing and not all electronic crap or the voice-modulation software. And we definitely need more slide-guitar.

Yeah but his version of Night Life is the most sublime with that great steel guitar swishing around in the background.  8)

And he did the definitive version of this, in my mind.  ;)

Yes, though all for the outlaw and more country sound there is serious place for 'Nashville Sound."

For sure, albrecht! Nashville takes a lot of shit from what followed after but I still really like it, for the most part. I heard this earlier and can't get it out of my head now:

As a busy executive, I have no time for searching this thread. But if it doesn't proclaim this song:

As the best...I just don't know. But that song by Steve Goodman was about country AND western. Both kinds of music. I'm not sure what the perfect country song might be...
