If you're not a citizen you probably shouldn't be voting.

I think if you are legally here, and own property, you should be able to vote on certain local levels since they still effect you. But I also think if you are not a citizen you should not be able to vote in Federal elections and if you don't own property or own a business you shouldn't be able to vote on property tax or zoning issues or bond issues. I could go on with my "voting" rules which would include a lot of stuff like tests of education, proof of citizenship and domicile, no foreign language ballots, if you are employed-by or have contracts with government issues at hand on ballot, if you are a net-gainer from income tax reporting, etc. (All of these would be determined, as Constitution originally had it, by local States and municipalities.) Except for Federal elections- then Federal rules would apply but those would be more strict also.

DOJ takes every state to court that tries to implement a requirement for proof of citizenship. Several states have lost the court battles. I know Indiana was one.

MMM So we can go back to property owner's just having the right to vote? I mean I see what you are saying but that's an awfully specific needle to thread. I don't trust the politicians/government to keep to such specifics.
