Art may even have trouble on that one.  Newhart is s pretty one of a kind dude.

I'd listen to that one.

Heather doesn't have a lot of interviews (as host of MITD) under her belt yet, so I know it's totally unfair to compare her to Art.. but she just doesn't have the finesse that Art does, when it comes to interviewing people.  (Noory certainly will never have this, and no one could convince me otherwise- which is why I simply refuse to listen to C2C, unless it's an old Art show).

Maybe it doesn't work so well with some guests, though  His interview with Cody Lundin, which I listened to twice, was one of those, IMO. Only because I think Art felt most comfortable seeing survival through the eyes of the show he enjoyed most (Naked and Afraid)- not the show Cody was on, which is a lot more realistic and helpful.  As someone who lives out in the middle of nowhere (as I see it), with all of the commercials for "prepping" he's had on his show over the years, he seems like someone who would "get it".  I felt more of a sense of naivety concerning this subject, that frankly surprised me. I don't know why. Maybe because I've seen the first 3 seasons of Dual Survival, and have watched all episodes of shows with Mykel Hawke (who should totally be interviewed- maybe by Heather). I'm not a "prepper" or survivalist, but I don't really think the show Naked and Afraid (as amusing as it is), is really a good example of how to take care of yourself with SHTF.   ;D

Yeah I listened to his replay last night that I had never heard. Now I'm listening to him and Whitley talk about Whitley's alien abduction experience from Art Bell's Dark Matter. There's plenty of old shows I've never heard that I can go through.

Whitley was one of my favorite guests of all time.

I'm curious to see whether Redacted will interview him too.

He was on Coast on Christmas Eve and told a few of his old stories again.

The one thing that bothered me a lot was I always kinda believed Whitley in a way, but he re-told this story about little blue men bringing a child's dead brother back to say he was alright.

Each time Whitley has told this story he's changed the kids name.

:(

I think he suffers from Billy Meier syndrome.  1 legit experience mixed with years of fake ones to milk it.

Waitaminute...I assumed you were teasing me about Art calling in on Monday, since theoretically that could happen on any given day of the show.  Do you have any reason to think that he'll actually be on the show on Monday night whytide?

Because this long holiday break without paranormal radio feels like forever already, and some Art on the air Monday would kick ass ;

whytide

I just assume he'll be on every time.

Sadly, I've been wrong every time, except that first night.

(Never in the annals of radio history has such a spectacle likely taken place. Radio host is terrorized, retires amid drama and much speculation, says he will never be back on the air, "this night or any other night," next day calls into the show as a guest but soon maneuvers into interviewing the dopey guest while the replacement host sits aside...as if there were nothing unusual about it, his questions were steady and focused.)

With the amount he has been on Bell Gab in the past days, and the tone of his posts, I give this the best chance yet that he will be back on Monday.

Well I have to give you cred in the "hopeful conjecture" department - you almost had me convinced for a minute there.  But I find it's preferable to assume that he won't be popping in for a little chat, because that's generally the case now, and it'll be a pleasant surprise if he does make an audio appearance.

But yes, despite your hopeful perspective, you are a tease damn yooo whytide!

That is just Heather and Keith trying to bait subscribers into not canceling. "Never know when Art might come back".  You can't blame them for waiting suckers to support amateur hour in the desert.

Good point. I'm one of those who will stay on a while, but if Art doesn't come back, will unsubscribe.

In general, I'm with you, I wouldn't pay $60/year to support Heather Wade in the Desert.

That would be a wasted effort.  Save it for someone better suited to interview him

Haven't all of them already done that already? He's older than funny.

It would not be known it were wasted until it were done, so it would not waste to do it.

I welcome your alternate suggestions here.

Well, they don't need to bait me.  I see this as a situation where my favorite broadcaster has been intentionally intimidated off the air, and Heather's holding it together to give him a chance to get through it and return to the show, so they have my support.  It's not a lot to ask - I spend more than $5 on coffee every day of the year.

And I've been thinking about it since this all happened, and I've realized that I like the Dark Matter Digital Network.  It's like a grass-roots media source that gathers together a bunch of independent efforts to offer something more interesting than corporate news.

Or maybe it's just in my bones to root for the underdog, idk.  All I do know that if MITD and DMDN fold, Art won't have any way to broadcast when this all blows over, and I'm sick of seeing "The Bastards" win.  I also like Heather and I'd love to hear her settle in and really take command of the program while she's at that mic - it would be a cool transformati0on to see her shift from "the kind host who doesn't ruffle any feathers because she's only trying to keep the network from imploding" to "the relaxed, focused and probing interviewer who gets to the bottom of the topics that fascinate me the most."  That doesn't happen over night, but nothing worthwhile ever does.

Yeah I took that bait, too, though I hold little hope Art will return.  I want something other than the noory to listen to, something that feels as close as possible to Art if I can't have him.  Heather cares way more about Art than I do -- she could be his archivist -- and has Art's seat, so it's the logical place for my $.

I don't care if it takes her years to reach Art's on-air comfort and style.  A more-experienced broadcaster would bring their own schtick.  She seems to be trying her best to imitate Art, and that's great with me.

The only thing I worry about is her sensitivity to criticism, despite talk of steel balls.  Her rejection as co-host turned the celebratory Gabcast at Art's last return into a dirge and, from Art's comments over Christmas, it sounds like she's been crying to him recently.  For God's sake, never let 'em see you sweat!

she needs to ..for as long as she hosts..make the show hers and not just like Art..or she will never get any slack..but to me at least..its not so much about who is behind the mic as much as its has been stales guests

Yep - she has a better handle on Art's encyclopedic body of work than anyone I've ever heard, and I hadn't thought about it but you're right - an established broadcaster would immediately change the nature of the show, but she's working to preserve its character, which is exactly what I want.

It took unbelievable courage to grab that mic before it hit the floor - I really don't know if I could've done it.  That was like walking into an cage full of rabid gorillas, armed with a feather.  And I always look forward to hearing on the air; she's good company.

This has been a disappointing learning moment regarding the audience though.  There are lots of bright and supportive souls who understand the situation and bandied together in tough times, but it seems like a ton of adults are reacting like spoiled infants who only see that they're not getting exactly what they want, when they want it.  What do they think would happen if any other broadcaster was being stalker and fired upon without security guards on site 24/7?  GN would be gulping down Xanex in a bomb shelter hugging his Bible, if this had happened to him.

I honestly don't understand how anyone can listen to Noory - that's not even an option for me.  It's just infuriating to suffer through his banal questions, wandering mind, and insipid unconditional Christian beliefs in angels, demons, and the whole rotten business.  On the rare occasion that he gets an intriguing answer from a guest, he *never* asks the right follow-up question, no matter how obvious it is.  I'm getting mad just thinking about it, haha.

Agree the guests have been sub-par (except for the enchanting music dude) but I see that as inevitable for the short term as long as they're going back to that same stable of paranormal "talent".  Wish Rossy would give her a few tips; his guests were unusual and cool.

indeed..Ross did a fantastic job of getting a broad spectrum of guests that made RCH good for a brief time..so much so that you even wanted to listen in on the crazy pluto/mars nights

They give me a volume discount but it still runs over $5/day.  I'd switch to crack to save money, but apparently it's harder to be productive on that stuff.

But you can always get false teeth.

Maybe Art could lend a hand with tracking down and booking potential guests.  A show needs a producer, right?  And I bet his clout would knock down a lot of doors to get hold of people.  Might help take his mind off of the situation he's in too.
