Herring in gelatin/aspic (same thing?) will also be featured at the Bellgab Sardine Fest 2018.
Good points about how what now is common was rare and for celebratory purposes and a real treat after months of the same old, same old.
Karelians? Where is frequent caller "Bill from Madison" to talk about Finno-Urgic issues and theorizing??!!

Ha I wonder if I can have my weighty volume of Defending the Abominable:  Lutefisk as Status Food out by that time.  I could set up a table and sign copies!  Maybe Mrs. Dave can help me publicize it in Minnesota; Duluth ought to be good for five copies or so.  I will throw in a chapter on Christmas traditions among the Swedified Finns, for Bill's sake.

For music (and, speaking of Karelia), we need to book these guys!:

The penchant for heart extraction seems a very stable variable across the centuries.

Every liberal should be sat down and forced to watch at least one of the many mexican open heart surgery videos. That kind of horror might shake them from their programming.
I have seen pix and video from DEA that is shown on Mexican tv news of cops or officials in towns that the drug lords kidnap, torture and kill...then peel the skin off the cops etc and place the skin suits bodies and parts on the streets with the insides. It's all intimidation. But undoubtedly sick, very sick shit. This is why no one stands up to the gangs and drug lords. Recently I saw a stat that 48 out of 100 politicos running for office in their prez race year in July were killed nationwide. So if u are running u have to be in their pockets. These bad guys also claim to be Catholics and religious but the churches of all religions are quite because they r scared shitless & receive very generous "donations." Then Prez Trump says we have been sending Billions of dollars for decades to South America to make life better so the people stay there and don't slam our borders. But the corruption is so bad no one but the upper echelon gov't crooked offficials, warlords, gangs and druglords get the money!!! And instead of cutting it off because it's not making life better for the regular people, the wonderful commie lib dems in all their infinite wisdom say, "we can't cut it off...we need to send more, a lot more!" It's at the point were we need to go back to the days of full military intervention, like the old Banana Wars...but we never went all the way then either.
And no one wants to do that now either. So we cut them off, build the wall and make these countries be forced to clean it up themselves. It's just all screwed up. But at least Trump wants to enforce the law & try something different.

Yeah, I realize that.  I was just saying that I don't think that sort of thing will be normalized and accepted despite the lunacy on much of the left.  I more or less thought you were referring to snuff films and that sort of thing when you were talking about Hollywood.  No doubt, MS-13 needs to stopped and the borderlands also need to be fortified against the gangs.
No way 21 it's not Hollywood. It is happening and it is absolutely true and unbelievable, but it is true and going on everyday in Mexico and Central America. When it gets that bad here maybe we will act. But why wait for it, fix it now. For once we need to be proactive rather than reactive.

You need to go to Hostfest in Minot and do a signing of your magnum opus also!

I hope Bill is doing ok. He hasn't called into shows in a while.  :(   I might get up to Madison and then head up to a cabin up north in a month or so. Will investigate if Bill is correct that the Finns taught the Swedes how to build cabins and taught folks up there in the upper-Midwest how to build cabins when they came over to mine (in modern times.)

http://www.colonialsense.com/Architecture/Houses/Swedish_Cabin.php  (Bill likely has demanded it be called a Finnish Cabin.)

The count of actual politicians killed is hard to count and number vary widely from "official" government sources, humanitarian groups, etc I've seen as high as 300+ this campaign season but also as "low" as 129, so far...

http://www.borderlandbeat.com/2018/06/129-is-new-tally-as-another-candidate.html
129 is the new assassination tally, as another candidate is murdered and four others
Of course far more normal people are killed all the time, especially women, where they have coined a term "femicide" to describe the phenomena.
http://www.borderlandbeat.com/2018/06/world-cup-2018-16-fans-killed-in-mexico.html
ps: to get thread back on subject. Lots of "True Crime" shows could be had if he had a guest on about Mexico etc, the Cartels, corruption, etc and some "paranormal" also with the witchcraft, Santa Muerta, and cult stuff and killings and shrines....

the suffering will be legendary...

Yes, make the grand tour from Vesterheim up to Minnesoota and over to Minot -- I might sell tens of books!

Though from what you tell me I should probably head down your way for a couple sales.  Maybe AJ would have me on if I talk about salt cod as prepper food hahaha

Googling Swedish cabins tells me you don't have to go so far to find one:  http://huoarchitects.com/projects/swedish-log-cabin/

Ha, yes. I can see Alex, red-faced and shirtless, wearing a Viking helmet yelling about he is a one-man berserker who is going to kill the NWO and how salt cod is the new "super food" giving him energy and is perfect for "preppers." (Actually that is why they would salt, dry, and pickle stuff for longterm storage and "prepping," before"prepping" became cool. Society has come full circle.)
In Zilker Park, yes! Sort of forget about the cabin. Lived very nearby and spent many an hours swimming there as a kid. There is an old Swedish Lutheran Church downtown also (I think now a historical archive building and the congregation has moved.)
ps: I suggest, to make ends meet, on your book tour you stay in Lutheran college dorms and Church basements (regular and Seamen's), they also might buy a book.

Ha ha ha that actually sounds like fun!  I can smell the overboiled coffee and sad, underspiced julekake wilting under the fluorescents.  I bet every grandma in a hundred miles would put me on her sweater list, seeing as how I actually wear them!  Man, I better get to work...

Robert

I'll always remember Harold Ramis primarily as Moe Green on SCTV and various on National Lampoon's Radio Hour.  Apparently the Moe Green character was made up by him at Second City, probably a lot of improv to refine it.

Dave,

Noticing nearly every show

1) Your levels are a bit higher and audio superior that the interviewee is actually hard to hear many times. Pot down!
2) The awkward pauses or talking over the guest gets annoying. Is there a way to cut the latency on the phones?

Dave's not here.
He is in Arizona designing a tombstone for Art or something.
Please enjoy the prerecorded show.

Robert

One thing that attracted me to Ken Freedman on WFMU was that he looked and sounded like Harold Ramis, and, like Moe Green at SCTV, was the station mgr.  Except Ken Freedman's for real.

You mean I came in from yard work (avoiding bees) to listen to a taped show?

Aye carumba!

One game Ken Freedman and Andy Breckman play on "7 Sec. Delay" is Live or Memorex?, in which listeners try to guess whether the program's live.  Like for instance Mr. Schrader could now seem to respond to what I'm writing here, but I could be a shill and this prearranged.

Uncle Dave is thoughtful enough to record  a spanking new show to air instead of playing a repeat.

Enjoying Dave's show but listening to it on my phone while I do some other work.  Came on just to say hi. Dave seemed unaware that Harold actually worked on the SCTV show when it first started.  He was on it from '76 to '79 when it was a half hour show.

Sean92008

Eh, I'd prefer to listen than go back out to trim my too high hedges while on a wobbly ladder in the dark.

I can't do major yard work during the day because of bees, wasps and possibly killer bees (attacks within ¼ mile and another walking distance, maybe 1 mile).

My brother, who is a naturalist, told me that if you ever get attacked by killer bees, just remember RLAB. Run Like A Bastard!

BEE-ware of the Africanized bees! Unlike European domesticated bees that produce honey and polleniate plants and hardworking the invader bees are unstable, attack en mass, and are quick to provoke but don't produce stable hives. Oddly they are stirred up to attack by loud noises of work, like tractors, lawn mowers, etc. BEE-WARE.
