I get your point...but the difference here is that HW doesn't have 50 years of give and take with said friend.  I have friends that I argue with and dislike on and off, but would still consider dear friends or at least good friends.

I firmly recall that Late Night in the Midlands ended just as MitD started (sometimes a couple of minutes of overlap.

Now you have me confused:  does Late Night in the Midlands start earlier and Heather is only on in the final half hour?

I don't think he connived; Because he seemed fairly open to a free flowing conversation with callers...right up until someone called and asked if she'd had an affair with AB. Now some have said she should have simply replied with a negative and moved on and that her response (Shut off the caller) left the question unanswered; It did, but I think most people asked the same question (and the answer was negative) wouldn't give the question the dignity of an answer anyway, so her response on that could be seen as reasonable.

However after that hiatus (I think about 8 minutes) it was strictly screened callers, no doubt with a ten second delay, just in case. Every call was some obsequious 'Poor Heather'. More than a few were white knights declaring their undying love and no doubt (taking the answer via e mail) offer to be her gimp.

That's a straight retelling as I heard it too.

The affair question was so out of bounds something had to be done.

E.G. (the author of that website) was an elderly, disabled, shut-in cat lady with a medicine cabinet full of psychotropic medications.   I don't know if there was anything she hated as compulsively and relentlessly as she did Art Bell.   I hope she's in a better place now.  R.I.P. evvy.
