Haha, Kaku's fusion estimate is like the programmer's credo ... It always takes twice as long as you think, even if you factor the programmer's credo into the estimate.

I KNOW I KNOW!

Because there are several world leaders who killed way more people than he did so they'd start with them instead.

What'd I win?

It could probably be said that Hitler was worse because he and the Nazis came closest to destroying civilization and replacing it with one of their making.

Kaku must literally not read any technology news. He has no idea that Lockheed-Martin is working on compact fusion and will likely create it before ITER fires up. Well, I guess we may soon hear of the cancer detecting toilet.

Yeah, that could be said. Lots of incorrect statements can be said.

How come we never hear about the amazing project at the National Ignition Facility to create fusion.  Huge super-powered lasers, and they got fusion going for like a billionth of a second I think.

I cut off cable completely. All my TV comes from internet sources and an HD antenna on my house. Have more selection for less money and way fewer headaches.
Same here, its not about the increase in prices for unlimited, its because they just are "testing" it in certain places..im one of them

If we can have robots deactivate bombs you wouldn't think it would be hard to make robots that can sweep up debris.

Guys I could listen to Art & Michio and chat on Bellgab for hours.  Good times.  Thank you arbitrary, capricious universe.

I'd like to celebrate gravity, but it kinda brings me down.

;D

Hey, zeebo!  I'm switching to rusty nails for Michael Horn tonight from my stash of duty free Dewar's and Drambuie I picked up on vacation this summer.  Are you and the Moose Shoulder  going to tune in?

Or make me a decent omelette.

Someone should make a tv show where two Type 3 civilizations travel back in time-one group to kill baby Hitler and one to defend baby Hitler. It could air on the History Channel. The Hitler Connor Chronicles.

Careful, sir!.  Your, um, slip is showing.  ;)
Ha. Yah, though I think those who know me, even, here, have no illusions. I like the idea of culture, politeness, nations, and countries and actual allowance of cultural diversity. For whatever reason, since you asked  ;), it is only "Western" countries that need to change, accommodate, assimilate, have open borders, etc.

It doesn't make for good news. When you have to ask people to take a step further than just a bottom line in news, then they aren't interested. See the alien megastructures, most people have no grasp of just what that could mean so they just don't care and glance past Art's commentary on it. We're much closer to fusion energy than anyone knows because, well, until it appears the media won't care.

I would love to be able to record my dreams, because the memory of them almost always evaporates in a few seconds and that's frustrating as hell sometimes.

I always imagine dreams being translated into replay visuals looking like game glitches.

No, I mean I'm not a cable customer in any way, so nothing they do effects me in any way. I have hundreds of channels and all the on-demand I want via other modes.

... or am I missing something ...

I see Dick posted this.
Let’s kick off this holiday week with your questions, comments, ideas, input, guest suggestions, theories, notions and all manner of miscellanea that’s relevant to Other Side of Midnight.
In other words, screed calls

Screed calls are fine as long as they're not screened.

Well, that's terrifying.

If you haven't heard it, go back and listen to Art's interview with Michio about early nuclear research.  It freaked me out, fantastic show.  He talked about "tickling the dragon's tail" which gave me shivers.

The Los Alamos story.  OUCH!!!   :o

Cecil Kelley, a chemical operator working on plutonium purification, switched on a stirrer on a large mixing tank, which created a vortex in the tank. The plutonium, dissolved in an organic solvent, flowed into the center of the vortex. Due to a procedural error, the mixture contained 3.27 kg of plutonium, which reached criticality for about 200 microseconds. Kelley received 3,900 to 4,900 rads according to later estimates. The other operators reported seeing a flash of light and found Kelley outside, saying "I'm burning up! I'm burning up!" He died 35 hours later.

I thought it would be cool to write down my dreams, but the "Where the f*** did THAT come from?" factor made it pointless.

Yeah, that's never worked for me, either.
