OK, I'm abandoning my theory in favor of yours. That makes much more sense. I've seen it happen.   Phew, close one. 

For those of you seeing the same things, here's a novel idea.  Call the local military base/post/station and asked to be connected to the Public Information Officer.  Identify yourself, and politely ask if there is indeed an increase in flight activity from the base (if you can ID a/c type will make the PIO's job easier) as you think you've noticed.  Unless the PIO knows the answer to your question already (like the unit is involved in a exercise of some type), in all probablity, the officer will take your question, call the ops officer for the squadron (by a/c type) and ask your question.  You'll then get a call back with whatever answer the PIO has to offer.

Serious folks, Public Information Officers very existence is to communicate with the public.

Yes it is Rafferty.  Baker Street was recorded in 1978 and featured the incredible sax solo by Raphael Ravenscroft.  Sold more than 10 million albums over three decades.  Rafferty died of liver disease in 2011.  He was 63.
