I'm now 2 ahead of you in the picking competition eddie. (it should technically be 3 but who's counting)

Kneel before your Australian master. Muhahahahahahahahahaha.

Paperboy and Mudking I'm coming for you next.

Then it's the real Eddie of Bellgab, Mr. Coyle.

Trash talk in an Australian accent doesn't intimidate me sir.  ;D

I was just going to post about Hayne & Kaepernick, but you guys are on the ball today with NFL news!

Glad CK was benched!
#ProtectTheFans ;D

apparently the 49ers waited a week to bench Colin Kaepernick becausd they wanted Blaine Gabbert's first start to be with Atlanta's "weak" defence. Lol...

I go to Cal, Stanford, and San Jose St games, mostly Cal because it's a lot closer.  I'm a proud fair weather fan, and only go to games when the team is playing well, contending, and/or it's a good matchup.  I haven't really been to more than a handful of Stanford and SJS games, they're maybe an hour away.

I went to see Nevada at SJS in 2007 because they were starting a Freshmen QB named Colin Kaepernick, and were running a high octane triple option spread offense they were calling The Pistol.  He ran it exquisitely.

SJS won that day, but I've loved the guy ever since, and was thrilled when SF drafted him.

You saw what he did early on, running The Pistol in SF with Frank Gore as the RB.  CK holds the NFL all time single game rushing record for QBs, 181 yards against Green Bay - at Green Bay.  And it was a playoff game.  They went to the Super Bowl with him as the QB that year, and nearly won it.

The knock on him all along is he doesn't go through his progressions and find the open receiver, doesn't read defense on passing plays well, and  is generally not a pocket passer.  Maybe seeing the field isn't coachable.  The transition into a pocket passer at the NFL level seems at least a little unrealistic (see: Tim Tebow) - if that's what SF wanted, they should have gotten someone else.

I don't know if a QB running an option type offense has a very long future in the NFL before getting seriously racked up, but that's probably what they should be running with him (although with RBs Reggie Bush, and especially Carlos Hyde now out, that doesn't really seem practical either).  The whole situation has been handled horribly, and it's not CKs fault.  To the extent he's regressed, that's on the owner, GM, and coach.  Expecting him to play a very different style than is his expertise is also on them.

My guess is he is only going to the bench for a game or two to maybe try to clear his head.  Obviously something had to be done, he was playing horribly, even considering he's not playing with NFL level RBs, WRs, O-line, defense, and coaching staff, for the most part.  They have until spring to decide whether to cut him or not, possibly trade him.  Probably depends on how he plays if he gets back in and whether they can find another QB more suitable to whatever it is they are doing.  the drafting has been horrible the past several years, all those 3rd, 4th, 5th year guys from those drafts one would expect to see starting now are long gone - I don't think they've even taken a QB recently to develop (hence Gabbert).

I personally think he's a good guy, his shyness is taken for him being moody, aloof, or whatever else (the flat brim baseball caps, ever present headphones, and all hose tats aren't helping his image).  It didn't help him when Jim Harbaugh's attitude towards the media rubbed off on him either.

He and the other players and the 49er fans deserve better from the owner and front office.

The guy is annoying! Always hamming it up for the cameras, ugh
STOP BEING A TOOL CAM! (not automat ;) )  You are not a 15 year old high school player anymore!

Bless her, my sister walked by the TV when Newton being profiled on a Fox pre-game and she asks us in all seriousness, "is that the gay player?".

I've never really followed the rest of the league closely, just the local teams - so paying attention to every game is new for me.  Last week I did a quick calculation of how I was doing percentage-wise, year-to-date.

It came out to be 62%.  I assume flipping a coin is going to be right half the time, 62% is just 12 percentage points higher than 50-50.

12% is about 1 game out of 8.

If I'm looking at these numbers correctly (no guarantee there), that means I'm getting about 2 games per week right better than flipping a coin.  It seems that there are at least 2 games a week on average that anyone should be able to choose correctly.  Without doing any research, it seems like always just picking the home teams, or always just picking teams with the better record would produce something better than 50%

Since I'm 3 games off the lead (well, 5 off the lead when I did that calculation), and most of us are all bunched closely together statistically, either we're all pathetic or the league talent level between teams is a lot closer than we're led to believe.  Given the close scores and small point spreads, I'd say it's the latter.

Having not really ever paid close attention to all the out of town scores in the past, I'm a little surprised by this, to say the least.  At least now I know why the points spreads are as small as they are.

In my experience (admittedly with a different code of football) picking gets easier as the year progresses and form is established. That is why it is important to get an early lead in picking competitions as it is harder to catch up when you have to start taking risks.

Having said that when I have taken early leads in picking competition it was usually because I took some risks that paid off and when I start going safe my lead starts to dwindle.

So what the fuck do I know. I still don't know what a tight end is. If it's what I think it is you guys are all deviants and perverts.

Tight Ends are extra blocking linemen in some plays and schemes, playing just outside the 5 standard linemen (thus, tight end).  They are additional receivers in other plays and schemes.  They play up on the line of scrimmage, so need to be set when the ball is snapped, while the wide receivers play off the line (so don't have to be set before the ball is snapped, which allows them to go in motion laterally or backward before the snap) and out further away from the ball (thus, wide) .

TEs are typically bigger and stronger, WRs are typically smaller and faster.

Tight end is the favorite position for Penn State!

It's really shocking that the two NFL owners who took the most Department of Defense money would be Arthur Blank and Bob Kraft.

Many owners in the major sports refused the money, but I had a shit faced grin when I saw Kraft being up there. That asshole was a laughingstock in Boston/New England as a greedy bumblefuck before Belichick/Brady.

oh I bet..I could see him that way for sure...and the Packer fans always proudly say they are a "community owned" team, as if that is any better...

Putin's looking forward to getting another Super Bowl ring

I'd bet money that Bibi Netanyahu got one. And didn't have to abscond with it like Putin. The Krafts hosted him personally on that trip that vexed Obama. And Jonathan Kraft no showed the White House trip(Brady's snub getting more attention) over how he viewed Obama's treatment of Bibi.

I failed! I joined and before I knew it, slammed with work and traveling. I have no idea what's going on until a friend texts me 'Can you send Reiki Healing to the Giants?'

I'm so far behind and noticed 4 or 5 new podcasts.

I do like this one as Eddie and Curtis nave great magic together.

It's not too late, fabulous prizes are awarded to the weekly winners!

You have to hand it to Nike's Phil Knight.  Instead of laying out all that cash to buy an NFL team, taking on all the criticism and scrutiny involved with that, he bought the Oregon Ducks instead and is considered a hero there.

Oh, how I hope Cal beats them in front of their pukey fans tonight.

Juan

I'm most amazed that the 2-7 Jaguars are 1/2 game out of first place.  The AFC South is approaching a sNooryist level.

Welcome back Chine!

I don't care what happens to Greg Hardy, if the NFL kicks him out of the league it's find with me - in fact I encourage it.

But what about others like, say, Ray Lewis?  His entourage of homies stabbed 2 people to death in a parking lot outside a club during a fight.  Lewis and 2 others were indicted for murder, but charges were dropped against Ray Lewis for 1) admitting he gave a misleading statement to the police, and 2) agreeing to testify against his co-defendants, and 3) because he's an NFL player.

So he's a thug piece of shit, yet was treated as a hero and allowed to continue playing, received all kinds of awards and acclaim, eventually winning a Super Bowl, being hired as a "respected" analyst on ESPN, and being featured on this podcast as the voice for the coin flip.  Somehow never an ill word is spoken about this puke.

The NFL is filled with these guys, yet domestic violence is about the only real crime ever punished.  Anyone think this is solely about image and gender politics?  Just to be clear, I think ALL the violent criminals ought to be kicked out of the league, not just the ones deemed politically incorrect.

I can't stand Lewis. He's a bigger scumbag than Hardy.  Playing an audio clip of RL for the random picker doesn't mean I agree with his shady past or think he's a hero. It is certainly not a political statement of any kind either.
It's a funny clip that is all.

Fair enough.

That call from Jaz was hilarious, perhaps cutting clips that just said 'I'm picking...' this team or that team, playing the matchups from last week gave it away a little.  A+ for creativity and humor.

   (1) The two brothers who got murdered in Atlanta got off easy compared to the butchering Ray Lewis does to English language on ESPN. Now that's brutality.

    (2) The Kardashian in training that Hardy beat/paid off, is why Hardy's playing. She ruined the legal case and opened the door for appeals. I'm sure she's found a new Panther to play with.

Eye poking? Seriously?

Well, that was an interesting game. My long distance Reiki protection / super shield for Luck worked!

Going to do some Reiki for Eagles/Cowboys game.
