FM Radio and/or NextRadio?

For sometime I've heard that your typical cellphone (I had an old Nokia who could) can receive FM signals with the current hardware but "they" don't want it to happen. And there has been some movement to get this going. Now I hear commercial for a NextRadio App? But it seems, to a non-nerd type, it is not simply getting FM signals into your phone but also other data etc (which would mean more bandwidth issues because not just receiving.) Any thoughts? Can one "hack" your phone to receive FM bands (that would be less battery loss and just receive maybe even using your ear plugs as antennae which, I think, my older Nokia did?)

Not sure. But I don't trust anything they push on radio.  Seems like they are up to something.  They don't like people streaming. So they want to grab every bit of use out of the traditional stations while they can.
