As far as I can see, his statement was a harmless response to your previous comments and didn’t warrant the tirade you inflicted upon him. I saw his remark as nothing more than an uneducated comment about something he knew little or nothing about. A true aficionado can appreciate many different sports like cricket, rugby, football or cycling. I personally cannot stand basketball or baseball but it does not stop me from respecting a good play. Let it go the comment was just his opinion.

Well yes; but England were battered at the Oval. Soundly.

Sadly I never put much stock in dead rubbers.

Tirade? You must have me confused with someone else. I'm not really the tirade kind of a guy.

No, I think he was talking about me, for letting one of your compatriots have it rather squarely in the shorts a few days ago. He must have taken it all too seriously - I will use any weapon when the Ashes is on, people shouldn't take it to heart. I assumed you were doing a John Howard after the Rugby World Cup and being a sore loser. Despite my tendency to Aussie bait, I tend to get on with you bastards delightful fellows pretty well, and managed to see a few Aussies the other day without kicking them in the balls.

Well played England. You won the battle but you haven't won the war.

Err, not sure about that, dear boy. The Ashes was the war, and we done won it  :). At least this time; although whether we will hang on to them when we go back over there is a very different story. I barely paid any attention to the last game because I had a feeling we would lose it. I don't know whether it was losing the last one, or the fact that both sides didn't play all that well, but the whole thing felt pretty hollow in the end.

This has to be the longest crikey match in history...

Didna the Aussies lose this year?  Or are y'all already gearing up for next?

Bah.  Baseball isn't over yet, or is that too colonial for y'all?

As an aside, ran into a "futbol/soccer" fanboi the other day, after I told him soccer was gay, he proceeded to describe Australian Rules Football.

Sounds insane, and I like insane...

Rugby, now that's a man's sport.

I find this very difficult to follow. All very nail biting.

I get the feeling that you are from the "Sub-Continent"

I salute you, sir, if that is fact.

SredniVashtar was quite right Jaz, I was responding to his comments from an earlier discussion. Perhaps I took things the wrong way, I should have remembered that Ausie bashing/Pome bashing was a very old and respected trade and when done with aplomb and skill can be quite humorous. Hopefully there is never any intention to hurt the reciprocating party. I was going to finish this message with a comment, but I didn't want it to be taken seriously, the comment was :- " Having said that, Ausies are a bunch of wankers anyway."

Neither do the Australians, really. We like to think of cricket as a species of missionary work, to try and appeal to their better natures and away from their genetic predisposition towards thievery and sexual perversion.

Remember that the technical definition of an Australian virgin is a girl under 10 who can run faster than her brother.

I guffawed mightily when I read this. I hope you will share more such humor with us in future, Sred, as it's the sort of thing I get out of bed for, even when I could have enjoyed a few more minutes' ball scratching slyly under the covers.

Toronto will have to look sharp.

Bowlers they may be, but this is American Cricket...

Cricket season starts up again and all we hear are crickets?

Only the Anglish could come up with such irony(irorny?"{sp}")...
